quote:Thanks for making my point. Our starting QB when Freeze was hired, is backing up a true freshman. Our true freshman QB on the team came in with a guaranteed RS season. We saw him for the first time today BECAUSE FREEZE HONORED THAT COMMITMENT TO HIS PARENTS!
And frick Finley and Ashford.
Our best receiver is a transfer senior out of Penn State. Close second is a true freshman who just made one of the most spectacular catches you will ever see. Who are our best defensive guys? Dudes that just got their driver's license when Freeze was hired.
Bitch and moan. Keeping coming off like a 13 y/o little girl who has no concept of putting the work in to build for the future. That's definately resonating with some of the fanbase, but people with more than two brain cells to rub together, have the ability to see that Shane Beamer isn't exactly competing for anything, anytime soon. Meanwhile at Auburn, the future looks bright with all the talent that is coming in. You sound like an Alabama fan that was screaming for Saban to be fired after losing to ULM in his first season.

quote:This is what is lost on most. We see them play on Saturdays. The coaches see them in practice all week. This isn't hard to figure out if you have an IQ above room temperature. Thorne isn't great, average at best. Behind him is below average. Our best option after Thorne is two true freshmen. How many true freshmen are leading contending teams this year? Any year? If you can name one, that's an anomaly.

You have zero idea.
Your savior coach cant win shite. He cant even beat any of the teams he is more talented than. Ive never said he should be winning championships. Dude has been total trash up to this point. total trash.
You tell me his one win since he has been here. I just need one. One big win for him. He has been here 2 seasons. Just give me one big win. Hell, even one good win
I totally understand the fact that he does not have top 5 talent. But he does not need top 5 talent to beat most of the teams he has lost to. Its almost like some of you think coaching doesnt matter at all. He picked Throne. He brought him in. He has stuck with him and the guy may be worse than when he got here. Not a lot of development. Or maybe he can only develop top 5 talent?
Other coaches are making hay with the talent they have. You guys are just fine with Freeze not coaching at all unless he has 4 recruiting classes?
Of course we will be better with better talent... So will every program. But have you convinced yourself that he is going to coach that talent to compete with teams with similar talent or does he need all those high ranking guys just to beat NMSU, Arkansas and Vandy.....
Give the talent thing a rest. You play with the guys you have until you can replace them.

Freeze cant win with a top 20 defense and a 5th year senior Qb with more starting experience than any Qb to suit up in orange and blue

quote:We have some talent, much more than when he arrived, but they are all super young. My HS coach played for Auburn. All-American, went on to play for the Dolphins and the Saints. He talked about coming into the AU program and what they had to do to bulk him up and coach him up. It didn't happen overnight. If you think that looking at a piece of paper with star ratings of each team determines who wins is the beginning and end, then you are super sadly mistaken. You can have a team of nothing but 5* players, and that means shite if they are all freshmen! That no star senior DL is going to school that 5* freshman left tackle.
He cant even beat any of the teams he is more talented than.
quote:What did he have to pick from in his first couple of months on the job? Name a better choice without the the courtesy of hindsight.
He picked Throne.
quote:Name a QB that improved from season to season under Gus. As an HC, the best QB he had was Marshall. His best year was his first. Jeremy Johnson?
He has stuck with him and the guy may be worse than when he got here.
quote:Kiffin snubbed us. Is he competing for anything of note? He lost to a terrible KY team and a very suspect LSU team. How long has Kiffin been at Ole Miss? Hell, Saban lost to ULM, you know that team we played today, in his first year. Relatively speaking, Saban would have never accepted the UAT job if it even remotely looked like what Freeze walked into.
Other coaches are making hay with the talent they have.

I think Lanier's point is, and I agree, Walker White should have played quite a bit more since the season was shot.
Would he perform worse, probably, most likely, but he would have gotten experience. And we will know if we need two QBs in the portal.
Would he save his redshirt, yes, now look where we are he has played a handful of snaps and the only opportunities left are the remaining two games where he wont play, unless its totally out of hand and we are losing by a lot, then they will be feasting on him like a golden corral.
And before you answer.....did we play true freshman on defense? Were they better than the person in front of them when they started playing. HMMMM seems we have a different strategy on defense than with our QBs, who is making those decisions?

He picked Thorne, not once but several times. Freeze hitched the wagon to him. In hindsight, the bank should have been opened to any one else. Development has not occurred either. I don't see how you can defend this aspect.

Dude, you just cant defend that bad, pathetic , coaching. I have never said he didnt take over a broken program. He did. that is what happens when you change coaches with no plan and bring in a guy who had several bad knocks on him (hard to get along with and didnt like to recruit) and dont pay attention to them
But, I still remain that we had the talent, young and old, to win way more gams than we did. His bad coaching cost us just as many games as the talent. It was not talent that caused us to lose to NMSU, Arkansas, Cal, Vandy, Maryland, etc. Those were not being ready. Not being prepared.
Was it talent that gave up 4th and 31 on the last play of the Iron bowl for the worst Iron bowl loss in any of our lifetimes? Or was it bad coaching?
You cant just sweep these things under the rug. I am not knocking him for losing to UGA, Bama, LSU, even OU though he gave up a huge 4th quarter lead, at home. It's the games he should have won and most competent coaching would have won.
Kiffin took Ole Miss up the ladder in his first fill season. He came in, had a 5-5 season then his first real season, 10-3. We are going to be 4-8/ Same league. Dont compare what this clown has done to Kiffin. Auburn has always been a better program than Ole Miss and will always be. Easier to recruit to , more resources. Dont act like Huge is out there selling Auburn to all these kids who are just dying to come to this 5 year dumpster fire to turn things around. you are better than that. Stacks of cash will only last so long

This is a very complex topic. On one hand, we have a top 20 defense; a defense that has kept us in every game we played, and has played well enough that we should have won, in my opinion, every game but 1. You can’t ask any more out of the defensive staff or players.
On the other hand, we have an offense that can move the ball on every team it’s played. We can’t seem to score when it matters due to turnovers, bad clock management, missed kicks, or weird play calls. As poor as this side of the ball has played, we are about 4-5 TDs away from being 8-1.
If you break down film, then you will see WRs running wide open all over the field on most plays. We just need someone to see them and get the ball to them. That’s the QB’s job. But, if he can’t see them, then it’s the coach’s job to teach him how to locate them. If the QB STILL can’t see them after being “coached up”, whose fault is it??
Ultimately, Hugh could be coaching Thorne up right. He could be telling him the reads and where the ball should go. But, Thorne is a 5th or 6th yr senior, who came in with a lot of experience, be it good or bad. We’ve heard Freeze talk about Thorne being a thinking QB- changing the plays based on what he sees. At this point, it’s ingrained- for better or for worse. Don’t think he can coach that out of him. I think we need to see what he can do with a player that has none of these habits, before we totally write him off.
I’ve said this before, if we don’t have QB2 ready to come in and sling it when his number is called, then it’s a failure of the coaching staff. Too many teams are able to do this to make me think that it is an anomaly.
