He has only had the one head coaching job and the competition in Conference USA is nothing like the SEC. I have heard that he can recruit but the question is if he can recruit the talent level required to be competitive on a higher level.

He has been a coordinator at 3different P4 conferences. He's been at Auburn, Bama, and Tennessee. A lot of the guys playing in our secondary he recruited.

He knows Conference USA isnt the SEC.

Well there’s no way Kelly can replace our offensive

JUGGERNAUT

Auburn offense is the model of consistency.

Production in SEC games
Oklahoma 2 TDs
Texas A&M 1 TD
UGA 1 TD
Mizzou 2 TD
Arkansas 1 TD
Kentucky 0 TD

At $583,000 per game, for 0 to 2 TDs on offense in SEC games

Do we raise the buyout with the extension?

Just hoping this entire thread is satire or a troll attempt.

If Charles Kelly is even considered by Cohen; then Cohen needs to be fired immediately.

Crazy that the Auburn faithful still supported Hugh and packed the stadium. An unserious hire this go around would kill that support. Surely no one in the athletic department or even the PTB are that dumb. But I guess JABA exists for a reason

I don't know. Lately, I've wondered if some of our money guys aren't in reality Tuscaloosa agents recruited to destroy the Auburn football program permanently.

This kind of shite is how we ended up with Harsin as our coach.

Charles Kelly/Drink/Sumrall are the main 3 I’ve heard over and over

Kelly would be a head scratcher. Lazy hire.

Drink is an upgrade over Freeze but Missouri is not good this year. Not impressed.

Sumrall high potential but it is taking a gamble. Young, passionate, has a process, tough, defensive minded. Tulane has been up and down this year.

If Auburn doesn't get this one right we will be stranded in the desert for a long time.

I have O% confidence in Cohen. Look at his track record.

Oh well. Life goes on.

I have had an Auburn tattoo over my heart for 27 years. I’ve had one in my wrist for almost 20 years. Through all the ups and downs that make up an Auburn fans life…

If we hire Charles Kelly, I will officially be done with Auburn football. I will get the tattoos covered and never again spend a dime on any Auburn products or tickets.

That hire would be worse than tater tot being hired from Samford. At least he had name recognition. Charles Kelly? Maybe if his last name were Dye, Saban, Smart, or Meyer I could get behind the hire as I did with tater tot.

But if Auburn is looking to alienate 85% of their fan base with another JABA hire, perhaps the biggest JABA hire ever, then by all means hire Charles freaking Kelly. ??????

I'm not mad at a Charles Kelly hire. Dude has worked for some of the best coaches in the game plus he's old school. Which is exactly what this current AU culture needs. If he could keep Durkin this could be great run.

For anyone worried about Auburn being laughed at nationally, I got news for ya. They've been laughing since 2019, frick em! Just win baby!

Dude we do not need old school. Harsin was old school (and weird). We need someone who knows wtf is going on and can play the portal game.

And nobody recruits the state of Alabama better than Kelly. He shouldn’t be the first call but he should be on the list.

He would probably be able to keep Durkin which would atleast keep that side of the ball competitive again.

The offense is fubar, the good talent will be gone regardless.

I tried to tell everyone weeks ago in the coaching search thread that Kelly was going to be a candidate. People also better be prepared to hear Chip Lindsey’s name thrown around.

That’s the idea. It’s something we haven’t done in YEARS at this point. And I’m sorry but a 60 year old who just got his first gig as a HC is not the answer.

Sam Pittman was around 60 when he got his first HC job after working sunder some of the best coaches in the sport. How did that work out for Arkansas?

Most the coaches winning right now are young dudes hired from being coordinators. Smart, Lanning, Day… yeah there are others like Cignetti who came up through the ranks but he has proven himself as a capable HC since 2011. He is the exception not the rule.

Anyone who sees Charles Kelly as our #1 choice and isn’t mortified needs their heads examined.

Just as gross.

I’d rather take my chances with someone like Brian Hartline than Lindsey or Kelly.

Harsin was mid-west old school. He had no knowledge or respect for Southern culture and couldn't relate to most southern black players. That experiment was doomed from jump.

Kelly can recruit and evaluate talent. The portal game is about money which we have. I'm not saying Kelly should be the first or only choice. But it's trust someone that knows the SEC and Auburn over the next up and coming young, hot name HC that week lock us into a big money long term deal before becoming Napier/Novell 2.0.
