Seriously we need different discussion here but can we talk about how shitty the play calling has been on the defensive side? I don’t think Mason is a bad coach or DC but seems in big moments we’ve had the wrong call more often then not. Like never blitzing against PSU. Manning up on first downs against UGA. When we have been working zone all year. I don’t think the game plan has been bad I’m talking specifically about calls at certain times in the games. I think for the most part we have had good game plans but poor execution at times. Wrongly timed aggression and cushion on others.

We were spoiled with Marlon and Derrick. The end.

I’m not talking about the players themselves they are what we thought they would be. However most thought DB would be a strength of the team. I’m talking purely defensive play calling.

Agree. But with Marlon and Derrick they could provide a pass rush and collapsing the pocket alone. That, in turn, allowed for freedom with how to call defensive schemes. We don’t have the push so we have to play “keep the receivers in front of the DBs with the zone” and it appears we are not cerebral enough to do that and we can’t put them on an island because the opposing QB can make a sandwich and then make his reads…which inevitably means a completion of some sort.

The players leading the PFF grades on the defensive side are mostly DL from what I could tell. Albeit those numbers weren’t elite, just average. We all should be very disappointed with the secondary. The DL has held up pretty nice, though having a pass rush is something that continues to elude us. I am seeing some signs that Hall will be our next guy though. I seriously hope Dylan Brooks is doing steroids right meow too.

If we are gonna discuss players can we say what a damn steal Harris and Eku have been. I’m a huge Hall and Wooden fan but Leota needs more snaps.

I like Leota too. He was an excellent transfer portal pickup. I like Mason. He still has a good reputation. I seriously dislike that we have to do as much zone that we do but I understand why. Cannot do man unless we plan to sack the QB or else we let a receiver take it to the house. When Mcconkey scored we were in cover 0. We were in man and gambling and Georgia made us pay.

What’s strange is how they weren’t getting top Dlinemen one after another. If there is one position group Auburn has been good at being an NFL pipeline for it’s at Dline.

Garner was a great recruiter and good on interior technique but subpar on rush techniques

Not over Wooden don’t get crazy on us. I like when Eku is in Hall’s role but I’m sure Eku can’t do some of the drops in coverage that Hall can at times. So mixing him back an forth from DE to Edge works well for the defense and Eku himself

Yeah I meant over Hall but you’re probably right about dropping back in coverage.

We got the next round of dudes in they are all gone now. Hall, Handy, Hardy, Moore plus a couple others were all extremely highly rated. All gone except Hall now. And we have a couple young guys that are going to be good based off rankings. Brooks and Hunter but it’s a big jump from high school to SEC on the line of scrimmage

Plus Robinson got some snaps this weekend which was surprising. Harsin said he’s been doing the right things on the scout team so by the end of the season going into bowl camp he can get some good reps with the 2 deep and see where it leads going into the spring

THat's one thing we are learning about Harsin. He is big on how you perform during the week, for you to have a chance to play on Saturdays.

The reason Robinson got in there, and also King the TE.
I was wondering who King lept over to get his first playing time?

Can we talk about the amount of time it’s going to take Harsin to get the Gus funk off. Seriously did anyone expect a NC run with the O line Gus left us with and the lack of QB development. I never once thought 5-19 Chizik or Gus were good hires, but I believe we finally made a good hire here, he needs to to get the pieces in place.

Honestly, we need the big money bagmen to get over the fact he was not their guy and get that cash a flowing.

I think you're discounting the complete philisophical shift from Steele to Mason. It couldn't be more different. I've said this 100 times but its going to take a half a season.

It would also help if Smoke Monday didn't give up 50 points by himself with blown assignments. He is not a cerebral player.

I would like to see it start paying out some dividends soon then.
