We compete in the best league, and if we win the SEC we will compete for National titles.
We’ve done it before. We can do it again.

The goal is not really to become recent UGA or Bama or Clemson
The goal is to get back to averaging 9ish wins, beating our rivals regularly (not even 50% of the time) and getting to the SECCG every 3-5 years.
If we do those things we'll win the SEC 1-2 times a decade and get to the playoff as a result. AND Auburn football will be enjoyable again, regardless of what others are doing. That's an objective that is realistic and appropriate for a top 15ish all time program.
We've got a lot of work to do, but those goals are realistic and obtainable.

We lost UGA and Clemson in the last decade. It's a shame, but true.

Exactly.

I agree with all of that. We thrive as the underdog.

I believe so too...but it's going to take something we are not good as, as a fanbase...patience.

This is the Auburn cycle. It must not be broken.

Damn. The fanbase is really content with mediocrity.

We are a good, solid program in the historically toughest conference in FBS. Bama and UGa are significantly better programs than we are and have been for awhile, and yet we've managed to stay pretty competitive with them despite their significant advantages.
For all the great moments Gustav brought us, he didn't leave the program in very good shape. It's up to Harsin to a)stop the bleeding and 2)rebuild the talent level to where we can do the things AU has been historically able to do since the 80s that you listed above.
Whether or not he can pull that off is not a matter of 'trust' so much as it is giving him time to prove himself. Yeah, finishing with 5 straight Ls is not a good sign, but it's not like he hasn't been addressing our shortcomings since then.

No, some of us are realistic.
Do you really believe we are on the same level as Bama, UGA and Clemson? Hell, A&M is about to blow past us if we don't get back to doing what we do best instead of chasing stars with unrealistic expectations.
I'm content with this scenario because that's truly what we are:

averaging 9ish wins

beating our rivals regularly (not even 50% of the time)

getting to the SECCG every 3-5 years. win the SEC 1-2 times a decade and get to the playoff as a result
I will ad we should be beating the Little 8 teams a majority of the time, but every program seems to be committed to getting stronger.
We can keep trying to catch UGA and Bama but we will inevitably fail.

We can absolutely do anything Clemson can do. They have zero advantages over us besides being in a weak conference.
Bama and UGA are state schools. A&M has more money backing them.

There is no reason that we can not do what UGA has done, but to do it is to not accept 9ish wins to be the high mark. UGA fired their previous coach for winning 10 games a year but not any hardware.

I'm sure it's hard to accept the reality of the history of Auburn football.
