Here is what happened last night.

Kiffin told his team he was gonna be there unless something changes. He told his staff that too. This means nothing. He was just trying to get them up for the game the next day.

Players were excited and relayed that to writers. Some writers got told of kiffins outlet statement by players. Some didn't. Ole miss clung to this and ran with it to hold on to hope.

Writers jumped to conclusions pretty quick on freeze. They assumed that kiffin was staying and wrote stories about how it was freeze. Why not assume and be the first to report it?

Tl;Dr: media is just drumming up clicks, Ole miss is hanging on to every thread. Auburn fans are suckers for this kinda stuff and the media loves to play into it.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone will know anything until probably tomorrow. To me, it’s telling that he hasn’t signed the extension with Ole Miss. He still has time to, but he’s had it for a while and still hasn’t.

This is the one thing that stands out to me.

I mean why not just sign the extension and that would shut down any and all speculation of him leaving and he hasn’t signed yet.

That's what I'm thinking...

And FWIW I just talked to my friend again and he said his Dad talked to one of his former players/students that played at OM and this player said nobody knows anything right now... it's exactly "unless something unexpected happens"

HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE!!!

The OM source that said Kiffin was staying is now backtracking

Mike Farell tweeted:

quote:

Source on Lane Kiffin and Auburn

“Assuming job is Lane’s to turn down.”

Source close to Kiffin’s agent Jimmy Sexton

“He’s as confused as he’s ever been on what they (Auburn and Kiffin) are thinking.”

Remember in coaching searches everyone lies. They have to.

Hoke just posted a new update:

- Nothing new on Kiffin.
- Now reporting that Freeze isn't aware and isn't operating as if he's "next man on deck".
- The new update: look out potentially for Eagles QB coach Brian Johnson if Kiffin falls through. He apparently really impressed during the interview. Seen as a rising star in the NFL; he has had significant NCAA success as well and was at Florida while they had Kyle Trask.

It just either means Auburn hasn't offered or expected to give him what he wants out of them. It all depends on how big an official offer from Auburn means to him. Only Kiffin knows from that standpoint.

Brian Johnson
He is well respected within the NFL circles and might get a HC job there soon.

For those that don’t know, he was the QB at Utah when they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Smart followed Richt and in a division with no competition and in a state full of talent.

So we should credit some of Kirby’s success this year to Richt?

And last I checked Auburn resides in the same geographical area.
