Roberts took over back in May. If we’re to believe reports, Greene “resigned” after a meeting with Roberts at the end of August. In that meeting, Greene asked for an extension and raise and was told he wasn’t getting that. Greene’s contract was up in January anyhow.
The timing of all of this is still super strange to me. What was the plan if Greene didn’t resign when he did? Seemed clear, at least in late August, that Roberts had made his decision on Greene. Maybe he was caught off guard by Harsin being this bad and figured he wouldn’t need someone at AD this fall to making a coaching change?

I think even the doubters of Harsin never thought it would be this bad. So I think everyone was caught off guard. I was very concerned about fit and recruiting but had myself convinced he was a good coach overall but I couldn’t be more wrong.
Maybe he is a decent coach with a horrible staff but he made his bed and is now having to lay in it

Sounds to me like a deep thoughts gag from SNL days.
One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.
