I assume he means a former Auburn assistant, regardless of the job he had when we hired him.

I'm getting to the point now where I'm good with whoever the big money guys want, as long as they give that coach EVERYTHING they need to be successful. NIL money, money to hire anyone they want on staff, more control, whatever it is, whoever gets hired. Absolutely will not work otherwise, obviously we are learning that the hard way.

Same here. Starting to realize that those money guys aren't the big bad guys that everyone (especially tards on the Rant) think they are.
If we run them off and they quit caring, then where will we be.

Yep, everyone has to be all in.

If they hand pick a guy in the new NIL era and he falls flat on his face, I hope these guys are smart enough to accept that maybe their area of expertise isn't picking football coaches

Gus was a head coach when he was hired. Unless you're saying he was hired to run the program in 2009
I understand what he meant now, thanks for the clarification.
I was thinking Coordinator on staff, then elevated to HC at Auburn afterwards.

OK. So I have read over 100 pages of comments. I have read all kinds of names on here. So there are a ton of pros and cons thrown out.
So far the top names being thrown out are (no order):
Lane
Freeze
Prime
Aranda
others
So everyone talks about negative recruiting against AU. We have all heard it and some have seen evidence of it. i.e. No linemen in the NFL (HS Scheme). Some may or may not be true. So for those of you who have your jockey...how would you negative recruit against the above list or candidates of your choice. I think that would be interesting instead of repeating the same pro v cons. I don't have a top person in my mind.

Lane - could come home to him banging any of the women in your life

Lane: He will leave soon. Just see his history. He is a nomad of a coach.
Freeze: Bad morals. Would you trust your child with this guy.
Prime: He will head to the NFL soon. This is just a stepping stone for him.
Aranda: He is heading to LSU as soon as Kelly is fired.

Oh this is actually fun.

Lane
Lane has never stayed in one place for more than 4 years. If you go to Auburn and play for Lane, how do you even know he'll be there when you graduate?
quote:
Freeze
Now, Hugh has never developed a player up to their full potential. Look at that 2013 Recruiting class: how many of those top players went on to have successful NFL careers? His best claim to fame as a QB coach is getting a guy drafted in the 3rd round. Do you really want to play for a guy who might not even know how to use you?
quote:
Prime
As a player, you'll always take a back seat to your coach. You're just going to be used to prop him up. Do you really think he'll help you reach your full potential? He won't give a shite about you.
quote:
Aranda
You think Coach Aranda will be the best coach you can play for? His Defense got worse every year he was at LSU, and that's after getting "his players" in the system. Sure, he had one good year at Baylor, but what did that accomplish? A Sugar Bowl win. Do you want to win Sugar Bowls, or do you want to win National Titles?
quote:
others
Generic "Have you even heard of this coach? He's not from around here!" stuff.
That's just a hunch as to what coaches from other SEC schools might say.

Thanks Poker Dough, Pete & LC Tiger...all pretty good stuff.
Appreciate it...breaks up the fighting and puts a twist into it.

Can we negative recruit the fact that Freeze had DK Metcalf, AJ Brown, Evan Engram, and Dawson Knox on the same offense and went 5-7?
Weren't they freshman in his 5-7 year.
