Listening to him Mic'd up, I could definitely see him being a great recruiter (his coaching goes without saying)

I like hearing the teaching and correction. Most of the mic'd up videos are just them goofin' off.

Love the idea of more NFL coaches in our game. With the NIL turning the college game into even more of a semi-pro league, I think we are going to see this at all the bigger programs: coaches flipping back/forth from NFL to college. And the top players are going to demand it, if they come there. They will want that experience coaching them.

Just realized he played at Clemson like Eason did. If he passed on Clemson he'd pass on us

There could be a dozen different reasons to pass up any college. We have no idea why he passed up Clemson and it certainly doesn't automatically mean he'd pass on us.

This isn't necessarily true. A guy could accept or reject an offer for any number of reasons. Maybe he considers this offer because it's closer to home? Maybe he just sees a better fit with Harsin vs. Dabo (this is a longtime NFL guy; and Harsin is a no-nonsense NFL type coach, not a rah-rah lets have fun College-type). Maybe he has a great relationship with Derek Mason and sees a better fit there than he did with the new DC at Clemson?

Like the Eason hire, it's obvious that Mason has some NFL connections. Maybe he turns us down too, but the fact that we're still after him and this is leaking out implies that they think they can make a real offer. Either way, I expect a good hire here.

This.

And this is his 2nd stop w the Cardinals. Man he's bounced around a lot.

If he didn't go back to his alma mater, I dont' see it at Auburn either, regardless of him being from GA.
Eason was from GA too, so who knows if that works.

As programs do all the time, Auburn could likely give him a “co-“DC title and an associated paycheck that is more than he is making as an NFL position coach.

Whether he’d jump at that or not? No idea.

But not Columbus.

Clemson to Columbus GA is a 3 1/2 hour drive, not counting inevitable delays driving through ATL metro.

Auburn to Columbus is 45 minutes. You could make that drive in your sleep (and I frequently did back in the day )

You talking campuses? because Clemson is pretty dang close to athens. It's 1hr 19 mins for Clemson, while it's 3 hours 3 mins for Auburn

He's from Columbus. That's ~45 mins to Auburn and ~4 hours to Clemson.

Not saying that's the difference or something, but there could be any number of reasons for why he'd reject one offer and accept another.

I'm relieved we're not talking about the DL coach from Opp High School breaking into the big time. That may have happened previously.
