There have been many elite players and coaches from several schools in California. When I lived in San Diego, I never went to a SD State game, but in retrospect maybe I should have. Even the Mountain West has had good players and coaches over the years.
What do you think will happen with WSU and OSU? Did they join the Mountain West?

So I just watched highlights from Cal's opener against UC-Davis. They did not look good. UCD outgained Cal 304 to 281 mainly because Cal could not generate any push with their OL. They averaged 2.7 yds/carry on 38 rush attempts. So, if the DL can shut down the run early, it should give plenty of opportunity for McLeod, Crawford and Faulk to go off rushing the QB.
For Cal on defense they have mostly the same group as last season. They stacked the box and tried to stop the run game last year and I expect them to do the same this year. So, it should give our OL a chance to see if they're as improved as some expect them to be and open up some run lanes (Lew and Wright at RG played very good last week btw). If not, the young WRs and Thorne have to step up and be on the same page.
Should give us a better idea of where this team is in their progression. I think Cal hangs around for theb1st half and Auburn pulls away in the 2nd to cover. 31-13 or something like that.

We saw much improved pass protection, but I'd like to see the Oline blow some nice big holes for 300 yards of running attack.
Check the highlights from the game, that run for a touchdown by cowboy.
Lew and Wright both engaged the nose tackle and they are trotting they are pushing him back so fast and BOTH pancake him into the ground.
Somewhere Pat Dye is smiling and saying.....Dat is my football team.

There has been talk that the MW joins them and they become the new Pac12 or whatever but apparently they just missed a scheduling deadline for ‘25 so everything is a mess. Frankly, they are doomed with OSU in big trouble sooner due to $100m+ of stadium upgrade debt. WSU is already making massive spending cuts as well. This is what Calnis desperately trying to avoid with the move to the ACC. We’ve got a couple years to get relevant or the whole AD will implode if we get “relegated”. We’ve got some decent NIL money coming in but not enough yet… this season is crucial to get the old money to open their checkbooks and next years schedule is ridiculously weak. We’ve got a shot to stick but a lot of things have to happen so we’ll see.

I too think they will stack the box, it certainly worked last year, and the only evidence they have is this first game.
I think we will start out with some rpo shorter safe throws, then take a couple of shots. And rinse and repeat til they realize its a different team and start to back out into coverage.
Then we will see if we have a running game and really start to mix things up.
Be a nice test, at least early, then I think we walk away with it.
Defensively, we absolutely stopped the run this first week, and we only got three sacks but we absolutely harassed him the entire game. And completely vanilla, I look forward to our gameplan on defense.

Fair analysis…the D should be slightly better than last year. There is better depth at DT, flipped out a like for like ILB with the other ILB having starred the last half of the year to be PAC 12 Frosh DPOY and we got a “lockdown” corner from the portal plus really solid depth adds there.
So expect Cal to stack the box as you said but there are 2 very good cover corners and a safety that will be in NFL camps next season. You have some really nice receivers but Thorne has to prove to me that he has a pulse.
Cal health looking better than I expected so I think my previous 14 point Tiger win is down to 7-10 points. If Thorne is still junk, Cal can win this

Against Alabama A&M. Cal will be much more of a challenge, and not even close to the toughest we’ll face this year. I’m in wait and see mode on the offense.

Absolutely. Cal secondary had what, 3 ints last week? 3 picks against anyone is nice. And I'm with you on "seeing is believing" with the AU passing game show something against some competition. I would prefer that the OL takes over and they just run without having to see Thorne throw a lot. But I'm just kinda old school like that.

I watched the highlights from the game. Two of those, the UC Davis QB went full Scooter Finley and threw it into triple coverage.

FYI, Cal led the nation in turnovers forced last year with 28. Unfortunately, they also turned the ball over 28 times so... eh. But the D does create a lot of turnovers and overall, personnel is better than last year...

I'm not seeing a network associated with the game - does anyone know? I'm only seeing Fubo and Sling and I don't have either one of those.

Auburn helped with that by trying to fumble the game away multiple times last season.

We’ll see. Giving up 300+ yards to an FCS school doesn’t scream better personnel than last year though.

Fair re: the FCS school but to be fair, it was 4 ypp and they are a top 20 team at that level. 2nd half, once we stopped trying to be ultra vanilla, they got about 50 yards so the potential is there. Maybe. Hahaha

This one has'em all.... I just Ctrl/F and search for Auburn. Been good for several years.

Excited I am going to the game this weekend! Do they have the stadium DJ back this year? Thanks!

They apparently do but he has been moved out of the student section. Seemed to allow the band to play a lot more as well

I was at the game and thought he wasn’t there, so it was much better than last year.

Line was showing +13.0 this afternoon but is now showing 11.5. Anyone know why it moved so much?
