When both UCLA and A&M fans in r/cfb are commenting "lol good luck with him Aubies" you know you probably goofed.

well even if he was an amazing OC, you would still get the same responses.

Warning, incoming load of stats. These are some statistics from Mazzone coached offenses over the last several years. With the exception of 2014, there's really nothing that special when compared to Auburn's stats over the last couple of years. Not up to 2013 or even 2014 levels for sure.
PPG, Yards Per Play, 3rd Down Percentage, RZ%
Arizona State (2010) - 32.3, 5.82, 40%, 77.2%
Arizona State (2011) - 33.2, 6.10, 39%, 79.3%
UCLA (2012) - 34.4, 5.96, 38%, 81.8%
UCLA (2013) - 36.9, 6.08, 49%, 85.9%
UCLA (2014) - 33.5, 6.13, 43%, 94.1%
UCLA (2015) - 32.2, 6.25, 45%, 89.5%
A&M (2016) - 34.8, 6.37, 39%, 85.2%
Auburn (2013) - 39.5, 6.92, 47%, 88.5%
Auburn (2014) - 35.5, 6.71, 53%, 87.9%
Auburn (2015) - 27.5, 5.39, 41%, 90.2%
Auburn (2016) - 31.2, 6.13, 42%, 85.5%
ETA: Those 3rd down percentages below 40 in particular make me nervous. Especially considering they're happening against Pac 12 defenses, which top to bottom are not as good.

is it possible that Mazzone has gotten BETTER in the 15+ years since he last was at AU? I know, i knoW!! INSANE!!
Arizona State
2010: 5.82 (#38 nationally, up from #90 in '09)
2011: 6.10 (#29)
UCLA
2012: 5.96 (#41 nationally, down from #39 in '11)
2013: 6.08 (#36)
2014: 6.13 (#33)
2015: 6.25 (#30)
TAMU
2016: 6.37 (#41 nationally, up from #69 in '15)
If anything, he seems to be a model of consistency. And the ongoing multi-year trainwreck involving the QB situation at TAMU makes his 2016 numbers a little bit more impressive IMHO.
tl;dr we could do much better than Mazzone, but we could also do much, much worse.

So basically from 2010 until now we've been better in every category with
So technically Mazzone would be a downgrade

Didn't UCLA implode after he left? No clue what they'd be talking about

If we do hire Mazzone, that means we missed on at least 8 other candidates.

They just have an overinflated sense of who they are and where they're at, and believed all the "UCLA is back" stuff from the media every year for quite a while.

Considering no one knew our starting QB couldn't start a game this year I am not surprised by the inconsistency of "sources" during this process. Gus has mastered keeping info he doesn't want out smothered
Posted on 1/19/17 at 3:52 pm to MrAUTigers
We'd owe a&m 100% of the remaining 2 years on Mazzone's contract (assuming a deal couldn't be worked out)... that's why this whole thing has seemed off to me.
Buying out Mazzone would cost like $2 million.

I have no idea what's going on

So just when I'm coming around to Mazzone I'm gonna get Chip Lindsey
Posted on 1/19/17 at 4:08 pm to Pettifogger
Crapea has a good breakdown on AL.com
Mazzone made 900k last season
He'll make 800k this season
If he leaves he owes TAMU 100% of his base salary x's his contract so it would be 1.2 mill
His son is also the QB coach there.

They said the same about Steele...

So since we were lured into a melt with the Mazzone leak what turd will we get? This is the Gus way scare the shite out of us and then hire some jacktard.

Did not see the advantage. Was one of my least favorite candidates. Tee Martin come on down.
