Sterlin Gilbert would be a solid hire. He runs a similar O to Gus so ru game would remain but passing game should be much better. A lot of RPO's

That's something I don't see no matter who we hire. Several people seem to think our passing yards are going to go way up but we still are going to be a run heavy team. The QB play may improve but we still aren't going to pass but 30% or 40% of the time, at most, overall. But I'll still take anyone who can improve the QB play and give us the threat of passing when needed.

That said, Sterling Gilbert seems to fit the profile of what they have been claiming Gus is looking for and at a school that Auburn shouldn't have any problem getting him from.

Marcello says AU is swinging big and might have a hire soon. Not much more info other than that

Meaning they are aiming for someone we aren't getting and they already have a plan B ready to go.

My interpretation is
"surely au will hire someone soon. This search has taken too long. Hopefully it's a big name"

If they are swinging big than it has to be Bo Jackson. Swing big Gus, swing big. I would settle for Charles Barkley.

If anything this process should reinforce the idea that no one really has any "sources" when it comes to Gus. If there is one thing he has mastered it's the ability to not let much leak. I am fully prepared for a name not mentioned anywhere to all of a sudden be announced

I disagree there. I think Gus would love to be able to run a more balanced attack. He just hasn't had a triggerman that was capable of doing that, that he also trusts to make the right decisions. Either way, taking the playcalling out of Gus' hands should let the OC do a little more of his own thing.

Offered Riley $1.4mm/yr for 3 years and he hasn't turned it down, so we're pushing for an answer. If he doesn't accept then we'll put the press on for Gilbert.

That's what someone posted yesterday well before the pay sites started mentioning Lincoln Riley.

That's absurd money - but then to get a 'big name' with Gus' rear warming up, may be the only way to get an established young OC.

My only concern would be how long he would stay before getting a head coach gig? If we get Riley it's no doubt Gus's seat will be safe next year. Riley, Stidham, Pett, Cox, KJ, and all of our WR's is a deadly combination.

This really doesn't even matter IMO. We should stop thinking like this.

We are living in an immediate results type world.

If Riley comes in and is successful enough for 1 year to get a HC job, then he did well enough to keep us happy.

Worth EVERY penny. This would be a home run hire. Loved the OU offense against us.

EARLY THURSDAY MORNING

I'm told Auburn is swinging big and it may have a hire soon.

If I had to put together a list of potential candidates again, it would look like this:

- Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran
- Texas A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone
- Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley
- Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos*
- USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin
- Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren
- Arizona State offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey
- USF offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert
