Jay Jacobs next :jump2:

I've been completely out of the loop so just saw this on twitter.

The scuttle when Chiz was fired was that Gouge didn't want to shake things up too much by firing Jacobs since he(Gouge) knew he wasn't gonna be there much longer. If we're getting a new prez does that mean Jacobs is now on the clock?

Probably depends on if we have a new coaching search or not.

If FB is winning + BBall isn't a dumpster fire, no reason to rock the boat in athletics day 1. Jacobs probably gets at least a few more years and then decides to retire/step back into AD Emeritus role

The incoming president would look pretty dumb to fire Jacobs right off the bat. Now mediocre upcoming basketball/football seasons? Yeah, it'd make sense then. He'll get a year or two.

Clearly this was big news when it broke that he was retiring

Other boards saying that AU's new President will be Steven Leath. He's a Penn State grad. Big on research. Meh on athletics.

No way we'd bring in anyone associated with Penn State, right?

Also, I wouldn't expect Jacobs to be let go immediately (although it'd be nice) but let's say Gus went 7-5 this season with Gouge, Jacobs makes that hire but hopefully with new preZ Jacobs is first to go

I'd rather keep Gus than let Jacobs & Co choose the next coach

Let me guess. You're a democrat.

Identity politics at its best.

Prior to his position at Iowa State, Leath was vice president for research for the 16-campus University of North Carolina system.

I keep reading on multiple forums that this guy is "weak on athletics".

Then the inevitable follow-up is a desire for this "weak on athletics" guy to fire JJ and hire a new AD.

I think this is overall a positive..... assuming he can hire competent athletics administrators

Iowa St's basketball program went from .500 team to consistent 25+ W program though. He isn't holding them back

Looks like we should now for sure next week. BoT has called a meeting for Monday morning to vote on the new president.

I'd heard that Jacobs was stepping down this year and that we were very interested in UT-Chattanooga's AD to be our next AD.

Hard believing that's true, but if FB/BBall are decent, it would look like a legit going out on his terms /not getting fired. Wouldn't be a bad thing for him
