If we are being honest though, it is amazing how much it helps the other sports. Yes you can do well in the smaller sports without being great in football, see MSU baseball, and generally the big three are fairly independent, but when it comes to the smaller sports, I truly believe that being dominant in football and the exposure it brings, is as big of a help to the smaller sports as anything.

Eh, I wouldn’t go that far yet. Realistically, how badly did the Gus contract that he had nothing to do with, bind our athletic department? If we were all thinking it, no way Greene wasn’t also thinking in the back of his mind that the odds were decent we’d have to get out of that sooner than later. That’s a lot of resources.

I’m not singing his praises, and I by no means think he has done anything of note yet, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for what he walked into. As Jones said, the next couple years, we should really get to see what we have in him and it is sink or swim.

ETA: I do think he has done a decent job managing the department as a whole. It’s very possible he may just not have a great eye for coaches. I don’t know if that is something that can be made up for or not, or if he even recognizes the shortcoming. We will see how it plays out.

The major part of his job and the one thing everyone on this page killed Jacobs over.

For one......we are finally getting a new football facility. Under JJ, I heard about it every year for it seems like a decade............only to have it tabled for a later date.

I don't understand why you constantly champion JJ. He was a glorified ticket taker and pawn for certain money people. He let the best coach we had in our history walk over piddly shite. Just like Harsin has to clean up the mess Gus left, AG is cleaning up the shite JJ left.

I not but If I am going to give any Credit, he is going to have to do better than JJ. So far, he hasnt.

Harsin has not done a thing yet except sign the worst class is our recent years and have the existing class that may end up being worse. I know before you start yelling its early but so far under him, we have not signed one single top player

That is just silly. He has done nothing so far and his biggest benefit is a coach that JJ hired.

Im just stating the facts. I hope Greene ends up being the best AD in our history. But so far, its no improvement over what we had.

Other than making a terrible first hire, he hired Harsin who we dont know what we have yet. Im just saying, lets dont praise him until he atleast does something to be praised about

As mentioned, the football facility for starters. He has also reduced overall overhead in the department and streamlined it a bunch. The admin side of this job he has done a good job with.

I mean, did you just stop reading after this? I literally said I don’t know if this is something that can be overcame or not, and that Greene is in sink or swim mode at this point.

Greene also had to contend with the existing GOB network that controlled the athletic dept from the time of David Housel till Jay Jacobs. That's a tough assignment IMO.

If he can help make the major sports successful, and Harsin is a critical part of that scope, then he will entrench himself at Auburn, if he wants to stay.

If Harsin fails, then look out...

It’s not about Gus to me. It’s about giving him credit for something he hasn’t done. Hopefully yet.

Meh. Thats more talk than anything. Every program has a group of people around it. Auburn is no different. If you get rid of the so called Good Ole Boy network, another one will just move it

He gets full credit for keeping Flo around and that was on the premise of her class but that class fell apart quickly and downhill it went. His other hires better pan out.

Its not just talk when you revamp the AD and for a year and a half has to deal with a pandemic influenced program. He also kept Pearl from getting fired during an investigation.

I understand, you want 'results' and I do too, but its just too early in his tenure to say all is going downhill in AU athletics. Let's see how they next 2-3 years looks..

That sucks. No reason Auburn shouldn’t be in in the top half of the SEC.
Greene needs to get the major sports stabilized and start working on the Olympic sports. They need some work.

Im really less about wanting results with him. I think we are doing about what Auburn does. Though we can do better and I want us to, its not like we are that far off from where we always have been

Its more about the people saying how great of a job he has done. He really hasnt and we should just call it that until he does. Then we crown him

JGT has a thread about Gen. Ron Burgess moving into some undefined role in the athletic program.

Apparently ADAG is unpopular with a majority of the coaches because of his spending budget. JGT said Burgess working in the athletic program (in some way) is what Gogue requested. Tate doesn’t know the specifics but he believes Burgess is there to hear the coaches bitches and complaints to try and meet in the middle.

Phillip Marshall was the first to report about Burgess but I’ve yet to read it.

This could get very interesting....(as Sgt. Schultz would say).

I just wonder what a military bred General brings to the table in a sports environment?

There is a shite ton of rumor, conjecture, and innuendo going on right now. Who knows

I read couple days ago he was there because Harsin sucked so bad at recruiting.
He could be there because Auburn is still upset at the unfamiliarity of the Harsin pick. I thought Greene’s budget was very smart, but brutal to carry out.

Regardless, this just confirms my suspicions that ADAG won’t be here much longer. He seems like a great AD with his sights on a bigger prize. No facts just my opinion.
