However when younhave to face good pitchers in Supers and later in Omaha it will get you beat in close games.

We went 1-1 in close games vs #1 ranked team, one of those loses in extra innings on a fluke walk off

I like how anytime we lose a close game in any sport a coach has to be fired no matter how far we make it

It's not even about that pitcher or that game really. Gabe has a MLB approach to batting which is HR or strik out. That approach IMO is a lazy. old school ball works better. It's simple you work the count get walks, get singles, bunt, sac bunt. ABC baseball just works. Just because Gabe was a good player doesn't mean he knows how to teach.

You mean the way it's done at the highest level where the most is on the line is a bad way to do things?

Its funny how these critics come out of the woodworks. I bet over half didn't even watch this team the whole year and aren't really baseball fans. They had a great year. Went up against the #1 seed UF and played tough. We have a lot of talent coming back next year also. This was a young team. Look forward to 2019 season.

SOMEONE MUST BE PUNISHED FOR MY DISAPPOINTMENT

But for real last night sucked but it's beyond dumb to want to make any major changes. This team was picked to finish 13th in the SEC & instead took the #1 team in the country to extras on their own field. They had to execute a gimmick play & need a tough bounce to knock us off. We return the core of this team & add some good talent for next year. Awesome year, awesome future ahead

That is baseball, our bats were streaky against higher competition and we did not give Mize run support at times this year.... minus one fluke play stolen base we could very well be in Omaha. AU baseball exceeded expectations and I am proud of what they accomplished this year.

Agreed.

Tough ending, but great effort and fun to watch this year.

Embrace it. After the ending last night, I started laughing because I knew Auburn is going to Auburn no matter what sport it is, and we’re still going to like it. Almost like when Ole Miss jacked a walk off HR off of our intentional ball. Absolutely crazy.

We just did something we’ve never done before, with a team full of freshmen that played a huge role... but let’s make changes. I love this place

I have to laugh too at someone calling our style of play as 'lazy'. Baseball has many approaches to offense. It depends on who you have on your squad, and also what the coach feels will work.

I can remember back when Renfroe was coach, and we had that type of team (take pitches, hit/run, bunt, etc.) and there was so much complaining about our punch and judy concept. Fans wanted to know why we didn't recruit any long ball hitters. So he was let go....

It's execution of your offensive philosophy that counts. I sometimes hated players who let good pitches go by to get the count deep, or bc they were looking for a certain pitch, or to get to the relievers sooner...

This team GOT here bc of the type of team we had. If posters want more of the Renfroe style, then they will complain with this team. But, in the end, depending on the recruits you get here, determines your style I hope. We can win both ways, as long as they are managed effectively.

We just ran up against very good pitching (surprise...welcome to the NCAAs.)...

One of our better Auburn signees is gone. Who else should we be paying attention to?

Jim Callis
Jim Callis
@jimcallisMLB
4th-rder Blake Rivera signs w/@SFGiants for $800,000 (pick 106 value = $528,200). Wallace State-Hanceville (Ala.) CC, one of better curveballs in draft, also up to 96 mph w/fastball. Auburn recruit.

Clearly has NO clue about baseball recruiting. We have 4 possibly 5 guys in this class who will be contributors next year including a likely starting Pitcher in Garrett Wade.
