I had the good fortune to be at the game yesterday. Man what a scene. I just took it all in. The town was hopping beforehand. Had some great conversations over bloody Mary’s with AU family and even a few Kentucky fans. Then BOOM into the arena we went. It was loud as hell from start to finish and deafening on some possessions. Jabari had a block underneath the basket late in the game that stopped a potential UK run and crowd went berserk. Came out of the arena to a sunny day.

When I was in school I used to beg my buddies to walk “all the way across campus” to go to a game when I was in school. There were nights when there weren’t 2000 people in a cold dank BEMC…when the only sell outs were vs Bama and Kentucky and half the fans were pulling for the other team.

What Bruce has done cannot be understated. He’s turned us into a Duke-type atmosphere. It was amazing to watch and be a part of it. As much or more fun than I’ve had at any football game.

It's truly remarkable. shite I remember in the Barbee years where Kentucky fans would be in the auburn student section. Glad to see that is a thing behind us.

I really like his suggestion of JUNGLE CITY

The freaking vet school with all of their KY natives would walk into the student section wearing Auburn gear and take it off at tip off to show off the KY gear they were hiding underneath.

Dark times…

There were less than 100 UK fans there yesterday and they didn’t make a sound even when up by 10. It was incredible

What Bruce Pearl has done with basketball at Auburn will never be replicated by any other coach, in any other sport for Auburn. He took a bottom of the SEC loser and turned them into a Blue (New) Blood. He turned them into a constant NCAAT team (this would be our 4th time had C19 not happened).

And he did all this with the SEC being, arguably, the toughest it has ever been from top to bottom.

LIFETIME CONTRACT.

I could write poems and ballads, haikus, and hymnals about Bruce Pearl all day. He showed up to Auburn handing out pizzas and hasn’t stopped. He also wins in a variety of ways.

Proof : We don’t have to depend on the 3 ball anymore.

He has also done it all after the media wrote his obituary as well. Finebaum said he’d be fired by Monday.

We also had a poster on here, AU24, banned for blasting Bruce every chance he got.

We have won one regular season tournament, one SEC tournament, F4 appearance, and soon to add more hardware since his ban. I wonder what Bruce’s win percentage is since the ban and since his obituary was written.

I’d love to unban that guy. I remember he started a thread about “good thing Bruce is a good recruiter because he’s not a good coach.” LOL

He was also a huge Jay Jacobs fan. And they’re the worst.

Ross, please unban AU24. He was just a good old boy. And he wants to right his wrongs by being a Bruce super fan on the rant.

When I was at Auburn, basketball only sold out twice, once when ky came to town and once when Shaq came to town. Auburn is like any other SEC school when it comes to basketball, put a good product on the floor and the students and fans will support it. CBP has done an amazing job of selling the program to get the students and fans on board. We now have the talent to consistently compete at a high level. Don't know how long this will last or if it will continue after CBP retires but I will enjoy every minute of this success. Hopefully we get a natty or two before it is over and CBP gets his name painted on the court. Best part of this is the amount of respect CBP is giving to the students and fans as well as the programs history. He seems to be humble and truly appreciative of what is happening at Auburn right now.

I think we are getting close to a point where the memories and stuff associated with these Bruce years will perpetually demand a healthy priority be placed on hoops, and also make it attractive to future coaches. I really believe that.

If it wasn’t for Jay Jacobs, we wouldn’t have Auburn Arena and we wouldn’t have Pearl so I will give him credit where credit is due.

I’m not sure we could have convinced a coach like Pearl to come to Auburn if we were still using Beard Eaves.

I wasn’t at the game but can relate to you about lonely beard eaves coliseum. Rows upon rows of empty wooden seats.

The energy and life Bruce has brought cannot be matched. I look forward to naming the court after him when he’s done. WDE Bruce!

I only remember two genuinely exciting games at BEMC. When I was a kid we played Kentucky with Charles Barkley and my dad took me. I remember it was on WTBS, because someone had a sign that said “WTBS: wildcats taste Barkley’s slams”

The other one was in 1999 When we were undefeated and a very good Ole Miss came in to town for a midweek ESPN game. The place was packed and rocking. We blew them out that night.

I was in school from 91 to 95. God we were so bad. We did manage to beat Alabama a few times and almost beat Kentucky once. Usually the action at the library was better than Beard Eaves.

I also think it was genius by accident or choice to build the arena for 9100 plus. What an advantage that is and how cool it is to see the interaction of the players and fans. Other sports supporting one another and actually a place you don’t want to miss being a part of.

Bruce is amazing.

Definitely not many big games in that building. But Jerry Tarkanian once brought a ridiculously good UNLV team to BEMC, and Auburn was basketball crazy for a brief moment. Great atmosphere for that one, at least for a while.

UNLV had Armen the hammer Gilliam, as good a college big man as I’ve ever seen. But the Rebels were raining 3s that day. It is an obscure moment in Auburn basketball history, mostly because they killed us.

May have been coincidence, but Auburn had their White Coat Ceremony during the game (Saturday at 1:00). Kudos if it was planned. Plus most Vet students cannot spend hours in line to get in.

Pretty sure that was Sonny's last season at AU. Seems to me the rule change to allow the 3pt shots threw him for a loop, and we had a disastrous season trying to adjust.

Wildest home atmosphere from my AU days was in 1983, when Barkley dominated the Tide, and the Bama SGA prez was forced to hand over the Foy Trophy for the first time in a decade...good times...
