Some on D were not comfortable with the short yard package versus LSU so Ellis adjusted and went back to base D resulting in better play on D.
Jeremy Hill was extremely comfortable with it.

Note #1 needs a negative in there somewhere... I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I agree with the older ends not being as talented. Outside of Lemonier, we didn't really fight anyone for big time ends the last couple years. The young crop is pretty badass and could be awesome.

I don't agree with lack of talent at tackle for the most part but we also don't have truly talented depth there. Wright and Whittaker are results of crap coaching. blackson is a mix bag of talent and coaching, we all knew he would be a project when we got him and with poor coaching he is probably just not as far along. I was never a fan of Nero and Niles at tackle.

I also agree with this for a lot of it but that doesn't cause our linebackers to flat out look like assholes with some of their missed tackles. The d-line's poor play hurts when the linebackers get picked up quick by a fullback or pulling guard but it just isn't an excuse for being out of position, poor coverage or poor tackling.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Daniels play more at tackle against OM and ATM.

I second this. Was never excited when we signed them. We don't have much talent at DT. Pretty sad.

I have never known what to think about Niles but I have always liked Nero but realized that he was a huge project. He showed up at around 280 or so and needed to lose fat and gain muscle. He was never supposed to see the field up to now and having a major injury that lost him a year didn't help his case towards being productive.

I don't think he will be Nick Fairley but some people need to realize what a project player is. This is why we can't sign projects, people expect them to be starting and up to Fairley status by year 2

Dude it's hard to have a DT like Fairley every year and no one expects us to have a Fairley every year. We expect to have serviceable DTs that can play in this conference and hopefully develop into great players. I think most people knew they would be projects. I just didn't see much talent. But we haven't had any development of talent either.

I just scratch my head sometimes when people start criticizing guys like Nero who was supposed to be a project and hasn't even finished his RS FR year yet.

If by his RS JR/SR year he isn't even contributing, then completely fair game. Right now, it is like buying some stock today and bitching tomorrow that it hasn't earned you millions yet

Terrible comparison with stocks. What are you trying to say here? Nero and Niles were not blue chip(blue chip stocks you are expecting to perform with high income/large revenue with great looking balance sheets). I would compare those to 5 star highly sought after and talented linemen that look to make an immediate impact. They were projects like you said and were like picking a diamond in the rough and with development and patience, can become a good player. None of which has happened yet. I think we all have a legit reason to be concerned about our defense since we've sucked for a while now. Our frosh look promising though.

And it doesn't look like we are going to get any big time DT's in this years recruiting class either.

@JHokanson 13h

CB Chris Davis is "slowly" getting back in, DE Craig Sanders has practiced in pads, Johnson said. LB Justin Garrett also banged up (foot).

@JHokanson 13h

CB Jonathan Jones is also getting practice reps. He's recovering from preseason foot injury.

Does Bo wallace run the read option? He is pretty mobile, right?

He looked like Chris Todd running the option against bama.

Maybe it was just a bad game. Haven't watched OM except for that game.

The read option is their go-to and the backbone of their offense. Wallace isn't Cam-sized or Cam-fast, but he consistently makes good decisions and gets a few yards with almost every carry.

Uh... He's smaller than Prescott is, but a better passer. Or at least that's my read on him.

I think Ole Miss getting shut out by bama was the worst possible result for us. Ole Miss will be out to hang 60 on the scoreboard. I believe our D can keep that number in the mid 30s but our O has been so inconsistent...makes it tough to estimate.

My inner homer- AU 38 OM 35

My inner realist - OM 35 AU 31

Yes but they will be physically beat up from playing Bama so that it won't happen.

There are a couple of possibilities emerging.
