Guard play is atrocious. You can't win w/o good guard play. Pettiford is unplayable on a better team. He's awful.

Yep. And while I had to listen to s stretch on the radio in the truck they mentioned he was on the "best offensive stretch of his career" with like 7 games in double digits.

They failed to mention his defensive metrics make him a liability on the floor.

I’m tired of this fricking excuse. we could easily be undefeated in conference play if these bad habits would, have been cleared up by coaching in preseason workouts and before conference play. If Bruce was coaching we likely would be. The defensive awareness and effort alone would be the difference,

Not sure why the downvotes to this. Its true. He was brought in to be a scorer. He had 6 points with around 4 mins to go.

Hall will get keyed on the further we go and in the tournament he would be completely taken out. The only way we win is with a variety of players going off. Last year batman duties were passed around for the grinding games. Players like CBM, Pett, Miles Kelly, and even one time Chaney Johnson exploded for points when Broome wasn't doing big work.

Yall need to scan Hall's game reports from last year. He has played much better than I imagined he would but he had several 6/18 games from the field. Sometimes he wont have it.

Please, Bruce had mediocre teams with crappy defense when they were built like this. See 2022 for a good example. When Bruce didn't have good three point shooters his teams tended to be average. We would have a win or two more maybe, but our team defense would still be meh due to the roster.

Is Steven a good coach? No clue at this point, but Bruce wouldn't be doing much better with this mediocre team.

The question is does Steven piecemeal the team year by year so that once every blue moon he isnt replacing 10 plus forcing ground up rebuilds.

Steven might not get a very long leash here. This team is very flawed. Can't speak to the coaching quite yet.

My biggest issue with Bruce and now this team is why do we have not 1 PG on the roster. Why are we playing a walkon? Why do we not have a 5? It just makes no sense. I could see this coming as soon as I watched the exhibition games. It's a terrible roster.

Next year they better get at least a PG and a C. One of each at least...or Steven is going to get run off.

This is my main concern (besides us sucking in general this year obviously). Ben is talking about hopefully it's just a rebuilding year, but rebuild with what exactly?

Are we on any good prospects radar right now? It's been pretty much crickets on the recruiting front.

SWA has been awesome and is a really nice building block. Freeman has a ton of promise. Outside of that we have what exactly that will be back next year to build on exactly?

I don't see Tahaad coming back given his sucking and Steven having to call him out publicly and sit him. And Overton is just a dude and should be sixth man not a starter. Magwood and Walker aren't even getting minutes.

Replacing 80 % of your roster year to year isn't feasible unless you are Duke and getting your pick of 5 stars.

Same and agree with the rest of post.

Pearl will have to prove himself before the talent spigot turns on.

Jovic, Overton, Freeman, and Sway are my likely favorites to stay on.

Oh yeah, I completely spaced Jovic. He's improved by leaps and bounds as the season has gone on. He's been really good lately and is a solid building block.

On a better team he would be playing more as a 2 or a combo with a better supporting group.
(Like he had last year.)

He just isn't an elite PG.

Yep.

Didn't work for Calipari at UK when he a team full of 4-5 stars every year, but they cannot play as a "TEAM".

This is a bunch of athletes who have never played together, and the chemistry just isn't there.

All the botched fast breaks reeks not a team. Several a game where right at the basket its broken up wether one, two, or three the numbers seem to not matter. Even a two step lead for a dunk. It’s infuriating.

Freeman has real potential. I hope we get 3 years from him.

Jovic is a worker. He will be like Mclemore was years ago.

SWA is young. He has real skills in the post. His ceiling is very high IF he can get to 55-60% FT.

Currently it will be tough for this team to make the NCAAt. Not impossible, but tough.

We were an 8 last week for Lunardi, we probably move down a little in his next update.

The lack of a true PG and a true aircraft carrier big limits the potential.

21 getting minutes in conference games makes it clear that quality depth at guard is lacking.

When does Magwood get out of the doghouse?

Yeah, this team gets beat by 30 by last yrs team. Disappointing tho as the SEC is not tough, just a bunch of average tms.

Missing as big as we did on Bashir, no true pg, no rim protection, and not one quality perimeter defender.. not sure how you can miss on a roster this badly. We do have some bucket getters but that is not how Bruce built this program. I don't have any real idea what the $$ look like but I am guessing Hall & Pettiford are over half of our budget, and they both suck defensively.

My nephew said that Pettiford has been seen in the bars nights before games or so it is rumored.

If Pettiford doesn't bring his scoring chops, then he is closer to a net negative due to his missing PG skills and size related defensive issues.

We'll be lucky to make the NIT if this level of play keeps up. As others have mentioned, the play of a few of the younger guys is something to build on for next year (if they stay).
