Rane and Harbert didn't get to where they are financially by throwing money around.
I hope Harbert learned his financial lesson with the ridiculous Malzhan contract extension.

would we take Brian Kelly?
Why would we? He doesn't seem to be a fit. If we are going to switch let's go with someone that is hungry to take the challenge. He seems to me ho hum...

Just a question. He is a very uninspiring and smug but he is a high floor coach that recruits. He also possesses coaching competence. We could do a lot worse.

Kelly will be a burnt out husk after LSU. Coaches just don’t find the spark again after they reach their peak. Certainly not 60 something year old coaches. Hiring Kelly now (or arguably even hiring him from Notre Dame) feels like Miami hiring Richt.
Maybe this is Hugh’s problem as well. He’s a grandpa now, he’s climbed the mountain at Ole Miss, then climbed back up again from Liberty to Auburn. Would be understandable if he’s lost some of that fire.

Don’t want Kelly. Same reasons others have said.
I’m onboard giving Hugh another year. Taking a step back and looking at it lately, I think I see something huge that is missing.
Lawson and others have pointed to our youth and rebuild a number of times. I think it is not only about them being young, but us not having top level players that are Juniors and Seniors for leadership. Guys that can demand respect and help the younger guys. Our younger guys don’t have that now. But we will be relying on them the next two years moving forward to be that. I’m hoping that they will be up for the task. It will help the coaches get done what needs to be done. I think it’s a huge part of why we fall apart in the 4th Qtr of games.
Still not a Hugh fan, but we’ll see what he can do. Need to for sure see healthy improvement next year. Maybe not playoffs, but hopefully not far off from that.

The Mark Richt comparison is pretty solid. Or maybe even Cal at Arkansas.

As am I. He has worn me thin though. The plan is the only reason why I bought in after he got hired, but I dont see his leadership skills as a coach. He preaches to the media and shares videos of preaching life lessons to his players, but I see more fight into defending his coaching than anything. So he will get his third year and that's more than enough time. The recruiting stability conversation has to wait

I think this year he is using up his fan capital. He’ll have to really prove himself next year. I don’t care for the guy, but for Auburn Football’s sake, we need him to succeed. Hope he’s up to the task.

That just got his first top 10 win in how many years of coaching?

I just want offense dude. I made that clear in the last coaching search. We need to work the rest of it out later.

Same here. And when Freeze gets an actual QB, there will be plenty of offense.

Next season will mark the ten year anniversary of shite offense U. We will see.

Freeze may crash and burn, but who ever replaces him will inherit a team stacked with talent. Major improvement must be seen next season or we will see that scenario play out.
We could also do a lot better.

Dave Aranda, HC at Baylor would be my first choice.

Auburn has offense now (or so we're told). What they don't have is SCORING and a competent Red Zone offense that doesn't play scared.

I want us lighting that scoreboard up. I am about ready to compile the stats of the last 10 seasons once this season ends and scrutinize our offensive hell in conference. I am guessing 15 ppg, 160 passing yards, and 300 yards average per game for a whole decade.

aranda isn't even above .500 as a HC. cmon man. sure he does seem like a great dude but we gotta shoot higher than this. i'm tired of sucking. we have been in football hell for the last 7-8 years.
i would've taken lane, lanning, rhule, fickell, cignetti, deion, and probably some others i'm forgetting over freeze. we missed the hire. he's getting another year but i hope he is gone after next even if i means another year of average. he is not the guy, some of you need to stop trying to convince yourself otherwise. i assume most of you do it because you want to be positive about AU football and i understand that. but let's be realistic now, because it's hard to be positive when we are 9-13 in year 2. including his vacated wins (so i'm being generous) his career record coaching sec schools is 48-38 total and 23-31 in SEC play. he is a loser and will never be a winner on the field. who cares about his recruiting if it doesn't translate to wins?? he has a worse record at auburn than harsin does!!!! terrible.
looking forward, i think we will probably go after lashlee since he has auburn ties and that's what we always do. if you had told me that a couple of years ago i would've been very against it but he's proven he's legit on his own. we could absolutely do worse but i would prefer to get away from the gus tree and he isn't my top choice. outside of him, i'm not sure who we will go after.
sorry guys i just needed to vent about freeze today. it's been so long since i've been actually excited about an auburn football game.
