Didn't help that all the fans left. I know it's always difficult Georgia week with basketball starting, but it's hard to blame them for falling asleep in the 2nd half up 62-31

The 8:45 tip didn't help either

The younger guys seemed to stay sharp throughout. I noticed sloppy play from Bryce, Horace, and Lang.

I think we'll see Laron start over Horace from here on out. As our bigger player, he just seems to understand the game much better, and he helps us on offense better.

We're going to struggle if we get in a slowed down game because the refs are calling everything under the sun. These rule changes are killing college basketball.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They did this crap last season on opening night. Call everything as a warning to teams that they're not backing down from their shitty new rules that kill the game.

I have no complaints. That was a solid experienced mid major we just coasted to a 17 pt win against.

Perfect first game in the sense that there were a lot of things done well and a lot of coachable moments put on tape.

This is all I've been able to find out about Ga State. They are picked to finish 3rd in the Sunbelt. They graduated 5 of their top 7 scorers but they do have 3 transfers that sat out last season that have experience. Led by 6'8 220 Sr forward J Hollowell. He was their leading scorer last year at 14.8 per game. They also have a transfer from Charlotte in 6'8 240 Jr forward W Clayton. He averaged 11 and 13 in 14-15 for Charlotte. Other name to keep an eye on is 6'5 soph guard J Thomas who averaged 6.1 per game as a freshman last year. They like to control tempo and get the ball inside so there is a contrast in styles.

This is going to be big. Hopefully we can do a better job of pushing the tempo like we want to early.

It seemed to take us a while to get it going Friday, but that could partially be due to the obscene number of fouls called.

Anyone else notice the respect Laron Smith got as a rim defender?

A ton of shots were screwed up by UNF trying to shoot over him and not get swatted

Just a thought, but it'd be great to see some strong chemistry develop between Purifoy and Heron before we get to our tougher games. They both appear to have the talent that could make them together a potent scoring weapon on offense.

I'm a little disappointed about Purifoy. He doesn't seem have that killer/Game breaker mentality that would maximize his talent

Give him time. Even though he is in his 2nd year that was still his 1st real game experience. Also worth noting we were +26 with him on the floor so he definitely impacted the game.

I think chemistry period is what team needs. But shouldn't be a shock considering how little these guys have played with each other. I can't wait till Heron/Purifoy/Harper all get used to playing with each other. Thought Harper did great job of setting pace but guys weren't ready for some passes so killed the rhythm

You're definitely right. Given the clear superior talent, I just hope he doesn't allow himself to fade into the background in games

Some quick takes on the "supporting cast" I had from the game that I was wondering your thoughts on

-Harper looks like he is adjusting. Promise driving lane. Last yr Bryce Brown troubles, good shot but trouble getting it to drop

-Ronnie Johnson looks solid, not going to win us games but not going to lose us games

-Bryce Brown if consistent can be a Ben Gordon type player

-TJ Dunans
extremely versatile and important whether starter/off bench. Will get his minutes

-TJ Lang- Needs to be more aggressive after quality pump fakes, open lanes galore for layup/drive&dish

-Horace Spencer- basketball IQ of Forest Gump. Promise he shows washed out by dumb plays

-LaRon Smith His rim protection was clearly respected by UNF. Solid in the post and shows effort

Anfernee McElmore- Solid rotational 4 for a FR who is willing player in the post even if slightly outmatched at this stage

Not Marshall, but I was kind of surprised McLemore only played 6 minutes Friday. I was hoping he'd see more minutes, especially toward the end when Spencer fouled out.
