It's Friday now and the only man for sure we know who has been interviewed..okay we think we know, is Charlie Strong. Meanwhile, it has been said that Cal has interest in Petrino. Arkansas is after Peterson or Patterson, and if they don't get either their backup plan is just the same as ours, Gus Malzahn. Tennessee is just starting to realize that Gruden is a pipe dream, and so they'll be after a big name as well or perhaps settle for Larry Fedora. NC State from what I'm hearing is hiring Sonny Dykes.

So lets say in the worst case scenario, Arkansas settles for Malzahn, Petrino gets fed up with being thrown around by Jacobs & CO. and goes to Cal, Tennessee hires Fedora or some other name, and we're left with Patterson, Peterson, two Fishers, and a Strong all just simply playing us for bigger contract.

Who does that leave us? Kirby Flipping Smart? Willie Taggart? The time is now to make a new hire, I worry about what will happen if we wait.

That'd be unusual considering everyone except Petrino still has games to coach.

If you think our administration isn't doing everything they can then you're lying to yourself. Now whether that translates into a big-time HC or not remains to be seen.

No. We're not gonna know shite until its about to go down. It's been 5 days. Chill. Tennessee and Arkansas don't know shite about who's going to be their coach either.

I keep hearing that Petrino is going to be hired. So then why do we need this dog and pony show of a search committee? All that tells me is that it is business as usual down in Auburn. Petrino may very well be the guy, but if were aren't seriously looking at our options with other coaches, then whoever is in charge of this sham is being pretty fricking negligent. We can't afford to not get this right.

I understand where you are coming from, but I think a little more patience is warranted. Half these guys have games this weekend that they are not going to blow off simply for an interview. I have no insight or general knowledge of what goes on during a coaching search. However, I would guess most of the names we hear with these rumors is the building of a list of who is interested in serious discussions for the job. Maybe more talk has occurred, but who knows. If we are still hearing new names everyday early next week, I think we can assume they are getting a not interested from a lot of folks.

Just my 2 cents. You're probably right, it's likely we are screwed.

I'm pretty sure you get grilled if you don't interview multiple candidates. So even if we know who our guy is we have to give courtesy interviews.

That's my point though. If they know Petrino is the guy, and these are just courtesy interviews, then why the dog and pony show? Why drag Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan into the middle of it? Is it because Jacobs is a complete worthless frick and they need beloved AU people to take the flack if Jacobs fricks up?

My hope is that JJ -- or this "search committee" -- is holding out to interview the likes of Patterson, Petersen and whoever else after games on Saturday. If they're not interested, then we move on to Petrino.

I say we make a hire by no later than the end of next week and probably closer to the middle of the week.

I've got a good feeling that Terry Bowden will be announced soon. No worries.

Someone on this board mentioned if it was Petrino that the search committee was so we could have two fan favorites pretty much approving Petrino giving a reason for some of the soccer moms to maybe approve of him too. I could see that being true.

Worried? Nope. Considering Ark and Tenn are also looking, I think the list of choices is actually pretty good.

1. Strong has not been interviewed.
2. From PM's article this morning:
-"If you're an assistant, you meet the representatives at the school of interest at the place of their choosing and do it pretty much the same way. Same goes for a head coach at a less prominent school. But a head coach at a prominent school isn't going to do that. More prominent head coaches won't do formal interviews unless they know they are getting the job.

All the coaches who remain on Auburn's list have indicated interest or, at the least, not rebuffed overtures made, mostly to their agents, through a search firm.

With numerous candidates coaching in their final regular-season games this weekend, the process will speed up dramatically, leading to the next Auburn head coach being introduced at a press conference next week."

" Likely to have formal interviews or other official contact:

Arkansas State head coach Gus Malzahn (Plays MTSU Saturday)

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart (Plays UGA Saturday)

Former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher (Plays Georgia Tech Saturday)

TCU head coach Gary Patterson (Plays Oklahoma Saturday)

Louisville head coach Charlie Strong (Won regular-season finale Thursday)

In the mix but uncertain

Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin

UCLA head coach Jim Mora Jr. (Plays Stanford on Friday)

Boise State head coach Chris Petersen (Plays Nevada on Saturday)

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy (Plays Baylor on Saturday) "

I would not say worried. Im just in a state of halt. All life activities are now on hold until we declare a coach.

Seriously, this is a very important hire for Auburn. We must get the right guy. Most of the coaches we are considering are still finishing out their season. I picked next Wednesday as the day we would name a coach. Im sticking with that. Next Wednesday
