They're doing a beer ticket system now
What the frick is this?
You bring your beer to the party, the beer gets put in a closed room or behind a bar, you get a ticket or each beer you brought.

Each brother and their guests (3 guests limit set by IFC) now have to bring their own beer and turn it in after they pass through security. When they turn in their beer they're given a ticket for each beer and have to present the ticket in order to get their beer, but only one beer at a time. IFC officially set the limit to six 12oz beers per brother and guest. The whole system is fricking retarded.

Yeah for hazing accusations and probation violation, they're supposed to be back fall '19.

In today's climate and with President Leath being appointed there really aren't any other alternatives.

That's the most ridiculous fricking thing I've ever heard of. Are they trying to shut down the greek system? No way I'd have ever pledged 20 years ago if they had that nonsense.

Agreed

Many outside influences and new blood within the admin certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

I pledged last fall and it's still completely worth it. We still have great parties and tailgates it's just there's a lot more red tape to go through.

ridiculous rules of the nanny state... you can still vote at age 18 correct?

ridiculous rules of the nanny state
These rules are a response to money and liability concerns that can cost money, not a "nanny state" It is near impossible to find insurance coverage for greek life that isn't dry, even hard to afford it
Auburn has some smart kids, if other schools with dry fraternities or no greek life at all can have active/wild party scenes, Auburn can figure it out too.
Partying always finds a way

Those dudes stay banned from campus. They were just coming back from being banned when I was leaving Auburn early 2000's.

For dudes that live in the house, do they just go to their respective rooms, or would security keep you from coming back in with the beer?
Sounds ridiculous

They let you go back to your rooms but you just can't go back to the social room/courtyard with anything from your room. IFC doesn't actively look for you to frick up and they usually make a round before the party really gets going but if they do catch you then it is not good, at all.

It is, but it's a better alternative than losing greek life or having a completely dry house.

The schools you're probably referring to are also almost always in a large city with a expansive bar/club scene, Auburn has none of the aforementioned characteristics so Greek life is essential to the party scene. Greek life also fills a huge housing need for the university and provides members with additional benefits.

I'm beginning to really dislike the new Pres Leath... he was already a poor choice considering his misuse of state funding at his prior gig. Ex jet issues

Sounds like the ticket thing is more problematic than the liquor ban

.... Yet. If there is this excess demand of partying, eventually the supply of venues to accommodate it will grow. It's been awhile since my FR level econ classes, but I'm pretty sure the math checks out
Also, it is possible to throw a party in a house or apartment as well believe it or not
quote:
Greek life also fills a huge housing need for the university
First, this has nothing to do with alcohol at events
Second the university does not have a "housing need," there is a current oversaturation in student housing supply. There are a lot more empty apartments/rooms than there are resident fraternity brothers
That is why they've been having moratoriums on apartment construction in the city, complexes still get around it though as downtown AU was excluded

I'm not saying get rid of fraternities, I just don't have a problem with them not hosting events with liquor on chapter grounds
