The fact he all but calls out people goes to show he was pretty pissed off about the rumors. Rumors fly at every school during every search but almost never does a president address them. This is just not done. What it tells me is that Gouge believes the rumors were coming from some of the candidates themselves (he says as much) and he is mad they didn't hold up their end of the secrecy bargain.

Napier is a young guy who I think has a big head. He doesn't uphold coaching etiquette to keep this stuff quiet. Brent Venables, by all accounts, didn't talk. He has been around this game long enough he knows the rules.

So it looks like Napier was leaking the fact he was a candidate to pad his resume and put his name out there in the limelight. Same goes for Clark. "See we turned down AU, we are that HOT guys. Only USC, Ohio State, Bama and Texas are worthy of our services." The reality is neither were offered. Clark was pretty much begging and was ignored. Napier was in the mix, but it didn't get to the point of an offer. I hope other schools are aware of their antics when they decide to consider either of them.

Bottom line: No one but Greene, Gouge, and the names on that committee knew shite. And it is looking more and more like none of them did any talking during this. I think I can prove that statement by using mere logic. If they were talking, we'd have known about Harsin earlier.

And I think the committee leaked it to Pete Thamel (of all people) as a "frick you" to Auburn's beat writers. It was a nice touch.

Good for Gougue putting that out and have no reason not to believe his explanation of the facts of how the search took place.

So NOW you are telling me that a lot of the things we read over the past two weeks were crap?

Huh, thats exciting

That is incredible.

Bill Clark fricked himself hard. Everyone needs to cancel pay sites and quit listening to goons like jboy. They would rather make money than help Auburn.

Great statement. Dr. Gogue is a great person and loves Auburn. He came out of retirement because of this love. I have been blessed to meet him numerous times and he is a humble and warm person.

The BOT screwed up when replacing him. I hope they learned their lesson.

Most Auburn people knew the rumors were lies. Now. Will the media cover his letter....No. Cowards. Anyone paying a fee to read a bunch of lying rumor mongers is pretty dumb anyway. Greene nailed it as expected. Time for new beat writers. Fire em all. Everything they wrote during the search was negative.

I guess this board isn’t representative of most Auburn people then

We are a rare breed. Capable of melting yet remaining somewhat level headed at the same time.

I love that this place isn’t a rah rah echo chamber.....but it’s also not a complete nega echo chamber. We all tend to move freely between the two achieving perfect message board balance.

He even did an interview with a local station in Bham saying he turned us down because he couldnt have control. Think he really makes himself look bad begging for an interview then saying he turned us down. I am glad we didnt hire him

I don’t know what rumors were true and what rumors are fake now.

What I know:

-Allen Greene did work.
-The boosters in the AL.com article should be named and should leave.
-Barton Simmons said we backdoored our way into a great hire. That’s what it felt like to me too.

What does backdoored mean? Seems it was done through the front door and Greene likely already has this guy on the main board

I'm glad he put this out. You can't have situations like what happened this week and just not say anything. That only emboldens the people he is calling out to keep doing their little song and dance. The way this went down, I'm kind of disappointed Dr. Gogue didn't just come on out and call them out by name. That would have been awesome. But I guess he is a little more classy and less petty than I would be in that situation.

Although, everyone in the outside looking in at us is, of course, calling this damage control, spin, revisionist history, etc. So that right there just lets me know that the damage is already done. I really hope the people this message was so.ed at (pay site "journalists" or "insiders") get the message loud and clear and knock it off with the wild, unfounded speculation and rumors. Not just during a coaching search, but regarding players transferring. Or squabbles between guys on staff. If that happens, go talk to people and get it confirmed before putting it out. Don't just go scour Twitter and regurgitate whatever BS you stumble across. That isn't reporting.

If I were to guess, I wouldn't think it would be the coaches themselves leaking to the press. The agents representing the coaches? I absolutely believe they would.
