I personally wanted to see what the OL would do assignment-wise, and I liked what I saw from a layperson. Harsin/Bobo/Friend use alot of zone and combo concepts that have multiple responsibilities for each OL in the run game. We also blitzed alot in the scrimmage - did anyone else notice? - so it was good to see how it was picked up.

I was a bit dissapointed we didn't do more under center and use the TE more in the throw game. Also we ran alot of inside zone which was Gus' bread and butter. It was very successful though so that's who we are apparently.

Everything else I thought was meh. I think our ones on defense are stout. I expect we'll win 7-9 next season depending on injuries, and a possible +1 with the bowl game.

I also thought the freshman Texas QB looked really athletic and he throws a nice ball, particularly the deep ball. I watched his HS film and I questioned whether or not his skillset would translate to college. It does IMO. He looked better than Loy IMO and I think he'll be the next guy in if Nix were to go down.

What did I miss?

It’s about what I expected. Offensively, we looked like a team that has gone from a very simple system, to a more complex one. Players looked to still be thinking a lot, especially at WR. Hamm needs to be playing Guard. He is not an OT. Canion was getting open a good bit. Hudson was wide open on the bomb and Bo was absurdly late on it.

Defensively I liked what I saw. Didn’t do much, but players seemed sound a d I liked the layers in the secondary.

This is aday specific man, yah... I'm watching Blood Diamonds and that is my best Rhodesian reply.

This is specific to the actual A-Day game, not the entire spring. Do you have a post quota where you're punished if you exceed? If so, my apologies.

What did you not like with Hamm at tackle? I think he can play right tackle in college. Quicks?

Our recievers are getting panned. I didn't see it as a group to be pointed out as a weakness. I hope Bobo coaches the shite out of Nix. He has all the talent in the world but has been playing hillbilly ball since he was six years old.

Pass blocking. He can’t handle any type of normal speed rush. He is a phenomenal run blocker, but he cannot handle a half decent speed rush. I think at guard he would be an absolute stud.

Agree. The whole OL can't tippy-toe (pass block). Maybe Trox and Jackson can stay healthy and he can move to OG because Hamm is a mauler. If we're talking about OL my worry is center. I think AU has to fix that.

Ummm wat? We targeted the TE 8 times in the A-Day game. Pretty sure we haven’t thrown to a TE 8 times in the last 3 years

Well, he did title it thoughts and expectations.

He must have a really high expectation on targeting the TE

Overall I think Derek Mason was an absolute steal for us, even our 2nd team defense had spotlights. When the 2nd team Offense was on the Defense it pretty much prevented any success

First play from scrimmage with the 1’s was Bo lined up at center with an intermediate pass to a TE in the middle of the field.

I guess I didn't pick that up that we targeted the TE a bunch. I just looked at the box score and the TE's had two catches. But if we targeted the TE's a bunch I'm all for that. I wish we'd adopt some of what Iowa State does with their TE's. They sometimes utilize 3 TE's very successfully.

I will never understand the obsession with using TEs. If you have one, great use him.

But I feel like we could throw for 500 yards in the National Championship game and some would still complain that we only threw to the TEs twice.

I think it’s mostly just due to the fact that we’ve underutilized that position recently despite signing talent to that position.

Look at it like a chess board in a way. How to attack an opponent we play, and also who we can sign. We're not getting better WRs or RBs than our competition. TEs we can sign.

That's why Iowa State can compete in the Big 12 IMO. They do some unique stuff on offense with players.

Its fun to watch this board. What ever they dont do, everyone wants it. When our offense was running the ball 70%of the time, it was a bitch fest to get more "balanced"

The tight end thing is hilarious. I dont care who they throw to as long as it works. Its not like us throwing to a tight end is all the sudden going to make the offense work better but whatever.

The carousel of bitching will continue. No matter what happens...

What is this chicken little bullshite. Tank is one of the best RBs in the conference. Auburn has literally never struggled with having quality running backs on the roster.

We have a few WRs flirting with the 2nd round of the draft this year. We might not get the 5 star demigod guys, but we get good WRs.

fricking comparing us to Iowa St. Christ almighty.

Try reading Harsin's post game press conference before going off "half cocked"

He specifically alluded to problems with receivers running the wrong routes. While specifically targeting that problem, he mentions the choices Nix was left with in having to bail and make something out chicken $hit.

I believe what Pro Scouts have said all along ....QB's were not developed and receivers along with QB's have to be taught lacking Pro Ball level skills when they entered the NFL.

In other words, Gus was blind and specifically Kodi Burns was a joke.

Passing to TEs across the middle does a couple of things.

It keeps the lbs from crowding the line of scrimmage in line support and stuffing the run game.

It also makes the safeties accountable for another element of the passing offense.

So its not just a matter of throwing to them, but the threat of it that opens up other facets of the offense.

Alabama threw almost 30% of their passes to TEs against Notre Dame, obviously Ohio State was watching this. They shut down the TEs....unfortunately it was in lieu of covering Devonta Smith.

Agreed. Kobe was a QB in high school, no doubt because he is such a great athlete. He played some WR so it will take a bit of practice.

I also read where the coaches were not only asking them to learn a complex tree, but for all the receiver positions so we have less substitutions. So an awful lot to take in.

A lot of talent on that squad if you look at the stars coming in.

I saw some wrong patterns, and some dropped balls. I also saw some nice catches......and some nice blocks.

We just need Bo to take a few deep breaths and do his progressions, some good things to come.
