I worry about our O-Line, WR's and cornerbacks. When I've heard Golesh mention an area that concerns him, he has said our O-Line every time. During spring practices Golesh said something to the effect that the one main thing on our football team that he prays for every night is our O-Line. We have G-5 guys with experience, younger guys with little to no experience or P-4 guys with injury history. Cole Cubelic recently said that he seriously thinks that Tai Buster starts against Baylor. That's worrisome to me if he is a starter on our O-Line.
We could finish anywhere from 5-7 (if we have injuries) to 8-4 and it wouldn't surprise me. I will say this, we better beat Baylor because on paper they look worse than last year and we went to their place and won by 2 TD's with freaking Hugh Freeze and Jackson Arnold. If we lose a close one to Baylor, there will be alot of calls for John Cohen's head. A close loss in Atlanta would've probably meant a win in Jordan Hare. That's how most fans will view it.

Maybe he has earned his playing time? Maybe he is good? Novel idea huh

quote:We had FIVE stars on offense and they didnt win shite last year. Its not the stars, its the coaching.
16 players on our offensive roster are G5 and I imagine a significant portion of the starting roster will be.
Hugh Freeze quit on football when he got cancer. Golesh is just now getting his shot.
I dont think we should underestimate these players and their ability to run the offense

W - Baylor Our identity is revealed and showcased
W - Southern Miss at JHS
W - Florida at JHS - I think we get the win here but a close game--Agree Sumrall is a douche
W - Vandy at JHS - Sorry you still can't sell me on Vandy plus they have a true freshman QB
L - Tennessee on the road - We are not going to win this game
L - UGA - but we keep it close revenge tour from last year
W - LSU - We get back to winning at JHS and losing in death valley
W - Ole Miss - I don't think Pete Golding is all that
W - Arkansas - I just don't think the talent is there in Arkansas
W - State on the road. I don't have high confidence for their coach
W - Samford - nice break of a game
L - Bama in Tuscaloosa - I want to believe DeBoer is on his way out, but I still think they have it.

Do not look at a glorified, short handed, handicapped, scrimmage to base an opinion about the outcome. You would be better served going to Lafayette Square in New Orleans and plop your money on a fortune teller table, or go down the street and walk into a VooDoo shop for a spell to cast.
The Offensive Line that takes time to gel, requires full participation for a cohesive network to take place. The offensive line was not intact. The same with the defensive line. Not to mention, running backs out and a made to order handicap system in place for the QB.
Too many stupid opinions based on what was seen during a glorified scrimmage. Not only a glorified scrimmage, but you play your own team mates on a lower level as you would an opponent.

We'll find out.
It's not as if we haven't heard the "3 star, coach 'em up!" line before. I'm always wary of scheme solving all problems or this nebulous concept of "the right culture". Especially in this era of year-to-year mercenaries, you still have to have top players to compete in this league. I hope all those USF players have that kind of chemistry, fight and "culture". I still think the team with the most talent will win most of the time.

I never predict individual games. I do think we can win 8-10 games. I havent been this optimistic in a very long time.

Our offense will be one of the most explosive in the nation this year. Top 20 offense is damn near guaranteed with the Veer-and-Shoot. Add in a Durkin defense and were cooking with fire this year boys.
I get that most are still in damage control over our Tennessee string of 5-7 seasons, but we will be better this year.

you still have to have top players to compete in this league
all you have to have is above average players with experience who know their roles and consistently execute their assignments
thats a result of coaching talent, not player talent

I lean more towards it being the Jimmie's and Joe's that get it done moreso than the coaching. There are years like last season when we had good talent but a terrible playcaller in Freeze. Derrick Nix is a guy who had never really called plays entirely and we saw how the offense immediately picked up when we got Freeze out the door and DJ turned playcalling over to Nix fulltime. Yeah, we still lost to Vandy and Bama but the offense was moving the ball.
Just watching 4 days of SEC Media Days, I think nearly all 16 SEC coaches at one time or another during questioning said that it really comes down to the players deciding most games in this league because they said even the bad teams have good coaches on their staffs. Chizik and Saban mentioned the same thing this week.
I'm really anxious to see how our defense holds up over a full season because Golesh ran the 2nd fastest offense in the country last year. We will score fast but there's gonna be 3 and outs that don't burn much clock and our defense will be back on the field. It will be interesting to see how Golesh and Durkin work together navigating that. Chizik mentioned yesterday that Josh Heupel, Sarkisian and Jeff Lebby all hired new DC's for this season. He said all 3 of those guys run fast offenses that were taxing on their defenses. I trust Golesh as much as any coach we've had though. He really seems to get it and is a smart cat.

Durkin had plenty of experience dealing with that last year.
