If people want to smoke it, let them smoke it. Arresting them does more damage than the drug actually does.

This is coming from a guy that doesn't even smoke it too.

Or just keep trying to force your morals and judgments onto other people. You do you.

Trust me, when future employers run your background checks, previous illegal substance arrests will have NO EFFECT on your job prospects!

That's actually pretty seldom. We rescinded a job offer to an older man when we got trafficking hits back on his background check. When you do that you have to turn over your report and your background check agency's information for the applicant to contact and contest. It's a huge headache for everyone involved.

If we feel like something is unusual I typically just call the applicant back for a second interview and ask them about it.

Just depends on the employer. I have friends at other companies that are way more selective but I would say we're around the industry standard.

If my 4mil a year job was on the line- these dudes would not be sitting game 1. I would use it as a motivational humbling experience that would help bring the team closer together or some crap spin like that. Maybe they don't start but they will not sit a half. That's just me and I don't make 4mil a year.

It's dumb that you get caught smoking pot when you know you are going to get suspended for it. Like seriously just chill out at one of your buddies apartments and you will be fine

But it's equally as dumb we waste time & resources arresting people for pot but you can run out and buy as many cigarettes as you want

I expect they all miss a series or two and we move on with our lives

I think they'll just be suspended for the 1st quarter or none of them will start or something like that. Shouldn't be a major punishment, IMO.

I'm so ready for weed to be legal (although it already is in my house )

If on the ballot, I would vote 'Yes' for legalization.

But, in the mean time, I find the mewling squawls of people who have been arrested for possessing a known illegal substance amusing. As well as the absolute dependence they seem to have for an utterly non-addictive substance.

Eh dependence is a strong word. They got busted for a small amount of weed hardly makes them addicts, just makes them college kids.

They should sit out a series for getting caught but making anything else out of it is a little much. I have much larger problems with players getting busted for driving drunk or stealing shite than smoking pot

Honestly if smoking pot makes me wrong I don't wanna be right. If my job drug tested, sure, I'd quit. And yep, it was stupid to be driving around with pot as a football player. I'm town between calling them stupid for screwing with their potential careers and shrugging it off as typical college kid stuff.

But it sounds like beatbammer needs a joint.

Very true, not the textbook definition of addict. But, if true, why can't they put it down? Why don't they give it up?

Indeed.

Just read a story over the weekend about a kid who just got sentenced 3-15 for running over and killing a tow truck driver that was on the side of the road with his emergency vehicle's lights on attempting to pull a car out of a ditch. He was under the influence.

Of marijuana.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2016/04/29/jason-schultz-trent-sheldon/83722698/

Oh, look! Here's another! (In Michigan again, no less... damn Michigan!)

https://www.wndu.com/home/headlines/Michigan-driver-sentenced-for-fatal-crash-under-influence-of-marijuana-300673421.html

And, as I pointed out, I am in favor of legalization. But you can damn sure look at the situations above and know that MORE of that will be happening after it is legalized. The cost of liberty and freedom is often high due to the stupid among us, but that doesn't mean we should sacrifice our liberties and freedoms.

But, as for now, that doesn't make the whining and crying of those who *are* caught and charged with possession and/or use of an illegal substance any less amusing. Suck it up, buttercup. You knew what you were doing.

A de-criminal, whaddup NYPD

(Honestly you're going to have to light up in front of the precinct for anyone to do anything, literally no one gives a shite outside of the religious South)

You're already assuming they want to. Who's to say they do? Big assumption

OK they don't want to. And then everybody (and themselves to I bet, even if not publicallly) wants to whine when they get busted. ITS JUST SO UNFAIR.

I'm sorry you don't see the humor.

You're working multiple angles on all of this so you've made it a chore to respond to you.

Anyhow, you're assuming that those who want pot legalized think that the arrests were unfair. That's another big leap that you've taken. I think that's a small minority of folks here.

You were the first person to use unfair in this thread. Well done

Nobody is stating that its "unfair".

The reason why people willingly use weed despite it being "illegal" is because they know that the laws are silly, and therefore they choose to ignore them. If the state made bananas illegal tomorrow, are you going to give up bananas for good? If you eat a banana from time to time, are you therefore "addicted" to bananas, or do you perhaps just not give a frick about the laws against bananas? It has nothing to do with "addiction", and the fact that you even bothered to bring up whether or not they could "give it up" is comical: you have no idea how much or how often they smoke. They got caught on a weekend during the offseason...wow they must really be hooked in deep (. ), or perhaps this is just an occasional behavior like it is for the millions of other pot smokers who hold jobs, pay their their taxes, and are productive members of society.

What you think you know about drugs and drug addiction is completely wrong; fueled by decades of complete misinformation and legislation created by people who have no formal knowledge on the subject matter.

Plus, even if a person smokes weed every single day, it doesn't mean that they are addicted in that they would have physical cravings or withdrawal symptoms if they quit.

Caffeine and tobacco have proven addictive qualities. Marijuana doesn't, at least not even remotely to the same degree.

I don't smoke, not my thing. The only people who are anti marijuana that aren't giant fricking hypocrites though are people like Mormons who don't participate in anything like caffeine, drugs or tobacco
