My wife has pointed out to me that I call every year a rebuilding year and that is not a possibility every year can be. Lol.

I hear you. I'm in Baton Rouge - I don't plant anything between May through September because it won't survive.

Derrick Nix has not been good recruiting this year. RB recruiting has been a cluster, with us having to flip a guy who was a lock to us for over a year prior. And all new RB targets are trending elsewhere. He should have bolstered our chances with Cunningham and perhaps the Maddox kid. Maybe he has a hand in Deuce Knight, but on the whole he has delivered zero new prospects. There is still time to totally redeem himself, but I thought I'd go ahead and start the narrative.

Reminds me of something I found curious. I lived in Roanoke Virginia over 30 years ago. That whole area of Virginia : Roanoke, Lynchburg, are very closely knit and its where Liberty is.

There have been some highly rated recruits, particularly linemen, in recent years, and they havent given us a sniff. Odd that a lot of our coaches came from Liberty.

Im very very very happy with our recruiting since Freeze got here, I just find that kind of curious.

Nix I believe was brought in to get all the offensive coaches homogenized into the same gameplan/scheme that Freeze envisions, so Freeze can dream up the vision of the program and the overall gameplan and focus on the myriad of other things a coach now has to do with NIL/portal/recruiting.

Recruiting I concur on Nix, I thought Cunningham would be a slam dunk, I could see us fighting Ole Miss for him, but a brand new coach from the west coast plucked him in a heartbeat.

These kids have only seen Alabama WR's make it to the NFL(55 5 star recruits) and ours look like a steam pile of shite. Coach be damned

Once Cam and the boys put up numbers its game on.

Commit bonuses kinda do that. Uat just lost another commit over the weekend. Their class might be a shell of itself by signing day. Do people really think DeBoner who hadn’t ever even signed a top 30 recruiting class all the sudden became an elite recruiter?

This Bama class will be a case study in the effectiveness of commit bonuses. If their class does fall apart I hope it becomes a cautionary tale for the rest of cfb. Florida's class last year definitely unraveled. USC is the other program that appears to pay commit bonuses.

Montgomery brought us Walker White in his first few months on the job. We shouldn't be giving a Nix a pass if things continue as is. Cunningham, Dear, Mills-Knight, and Kromah are the recruits we should use to grade his recruiting prowess.

The commit bonus thing is overblown and mainly a troll.

No one thinks Deboer is an elite recruiter all of the sudden. The question is how much does Alabama recruit itself on the heels of Saban? Saban continuing to stick around does also help them.

I don’t know how much Alabama’s class will hold together. That’s why I’m excited how well we’re doing in state. Out of state will be more likely to jump ship if they don’t continue to look like a machine post-Saban.

Are elite recruiters getting less of a need now that NIL and transfer portal are in play? Last years 2 teams in the championship game only had 2 years that they were ranked in the top 10 the past 5 years in recruiting (Michigan 2020 10th and 2022 9th per 247)

I’m curious about this too. I fully expect them to still look good for the next year or two, but if things go south I could definitely seeing the guys not from the south jumping ship in a hurry.
