I have a hard time putting false starts on the coaching staff. I mean, what kind of exotic coaching technique is needed to teach them to wait until the ball is snapped.

A false start, 90% of the time, is a mental mistake, not a coaching issue.

This is wrong. 100% a coaching staff can correct this.

So its crazy to think you can teach players not to flinch or jump offsides or commit a false start? The frick?

Can you coach a player not to hold or is that just a player thing too

The argument was a mental error vs a coaching error. I side with the side of mental error. Of course you can coach to a certain extent but mental errors still happen.

You cannot 100% coach away false starts.

So once again, how do you coach a player to never make a false start 100% off the time?

I never said that, nor is that my position. My position was that last years' penalties, which includes false starts, were primarily a reflection of poor coaching.

How do you coach a player to not make false starts……

It is hard to be called for a false start if you are sitting on the bench.

I played QB in high school. We had one particular OL - f*cking Randy - that would false start every fricking time we’d do a hard count. I would specifically say ‘Randy, I’m fricking going on two, do not jump’ yet Randy jumped every time.

So false starts, yes, are beyond a coaches control.

Were talking college football, elite athletes. Not bubba that only plays OL because he is tall and fat

eta: no one is saying false starts arent mental mistakes, but to act like you dont coach not flinching or jumping offsides or going into motion etc, is a little ridiculous guys

Yes these are elite athletes. Does that mean they are all Rhodes scholars? I think there’s plenty of evidence that many elite athletes are dumber than bricks.

Well you cant fix stupid. If you want to believe that you cant coach someone not to commit false starts, I'll leave you to your ignorance.

Looking at talent, we have had two and a half great recruiting classes. On top of that we picked up 5 starters on offense out of the portal.

Looking at our schedule, the only two teams with more talent are bama and georgia. The other two that are close are oklahoma and a&m. But remember that vaunted class of a&m all transferred, heck we have a couple on our defense now.

We should be 10-2.

I don't see us beating both A&M and Oklahoma on the road. I hope I'm dead wrong, but I'm going (floor) 7-5 and (ceiling) 9-3 with 8-4 being the most likely outcome.
