What dick face down voted Jones' reply? The day after NSD is when the 2024 thread should start.

KN says we have initial interest in Cincy OT Joe Huber who entered the portal

Per Pink, JUCO WR Marquis Montgomery could be someone to watch, he's heard from T Reed and was being recruited by Davis at GaSo.

I just think there’s tons of portal WRs better than a juco WR.

Cam was just a JUCO QB. There is plenty of talent in the JUCO ranks.

Cam was kicked off a team where he’d sit behind Tebow for years and was the #1 Juco prospect. Lil different.

Yeah Cam was a 5 star who went JUCO because of legal troubles for every Cam there’s tons of Jason Smiths. If they have a good shot at pulling Prather from WVU or Dubose from Charlotte I think they should.

This is Janga’s schtick so I don’t want to steal his thunder but I typically agree with him about JUCOs not typically being high quality starters. And I think that’s going to be even rarer nowadays where the transfer portal allows guys to skip the JUCO route easier
Cam, Nick, etc are a little different because they started at major programs, got in some trouble, and used JUCO to kinda rehab their image and make show they can play at a D1 level
I think this is a good year to take some JUCO dudes with our depth charts pretty messy and the roster being thin at some places. But going forward I wouldn’t want to rely on it very often

I tried 2 threads the first time ESD rolled around and it ended up not working out. Turns out a lot of the ‘24 talk ties into the ‘23 stuff, and it’s more difficult for people to keep track of
No right or wrong answer but it’s just what I end up doing

Jackie Sherrill showed how difficult it is to maintain a good roster full of JUCOs over time. You have to restock the cupboard twice as often and if you hit a snag one year you’re done.

I don’t think that is the plan long term for Freeze.
However, the landscape of college football is a lot different today with NIL and transfer portal.
I think HS recruiting will still be important but the portal and JC will play a bigger role for managing your roster.
Teams that can keep most of their productive roster year after year, and add key pieces through the portal and to your point, minimal takes from JC will see the most success.

JUCO plays less of a role with NIL.
Transfer portal has pretty much killed JUCOs. No longer a need to “rehab” at a JUCO.

Yep, free agency coffin nailed amateurism. If for no other reason than you don't have to be so professional when it comes to cheating. And with no need to hide the money recruiting just cost more than it once did.
To keep this recruiting: Is there any formal reporting of NIL dollars?

At one point in Alabama, students were supposed to report earnings to the University. I don’t know if that was repealed or not. Figured we’d have FOIAs by now if that were true

Just my thoughts as I watched this recruiting year unfold, and watching the portal last year and this year.
Looking at the top teams recruiting that continually make the playoffs or in the hunt annually.
I also agree the way that NIL is trending and the portal, it has changed CFB and not in a good way. I think players should have received better compensation, but the landscape of CFB is not looking good for the future of its existence. I hope I am proven wrong, but I will enjoy it as much as I can and see how it all plays out.

I think you'll end up with 20-25 teams that have the $ to be competitive. Unless big corporate sponsors get involved. Then you could see the Delta Airlines' UGA Bulldogs, or Amazon Prime's USC Trojans, then, who knows.

Agree, which in my opinion is bad for CFB, and a minor league to the NFL. I may be too cynical on this issue and it is not as bad as I assume it will be, but it's not looking good at the moment.
