There we're a few issues here too, he just always dealt with them quickly and if it was serious enough didn't hesitate to kick people off the team. I imagine Lewis has played his seen his last days of being on a power 5 team.. maybe some small school takes a chance, but good bet his playing days are done.

KN posted an article on why he believes Auburn’s recruiting class will be better than last year’s #20 finish. Seems to think Auburn’s hiring of CRob and Bellantoni gives them great recruiters over what they lost in Mason and Watts. Also seems to like Brumbaugh but noted Eason did a good job along the DL.

Also noted that Auburn’s recruiting department is much improved and that Auburn is doing well in Georgia.

My opinion- Optimism abounds this time of year but ultimately we’ll need a season that shows some direction for the program or else we’re in for another rocky off season.

Where are the portal candidates?

What’s taking so long?

JLee put something out today saying that the Progress Towards Degree rule was severely hampering Auburn’s pool of portal candidates.

I don’t really know anything about specifics of it and why it’s affecting Auburn more than other schools.

Sounds like a cop out if I'm being honest.

I think KN could be right.. but over these next couple of months if we don't get 3-5 guys I'm going to start having my doubts again. We've made some good final list, has some really good players in on multiple visits.. Gotta seal the deal though.

I would hope so, since that was the worst finish since Tubs days of duck hunting when he should've been recruiting.

That’s really just about portal transfers too.
Nobody likes our portal work but the staff has added 7 guys there I believe since last season. Other than WR and DE it doesn’t appear they’re interested in adding any more.

On commits - it’s hard to feel very confident with only 2 on board. Bama has 3, LSU and UF have 4. I think most of the league has less than 5 or 6 right now. I’m usually not too concerned about commitment timing until we start losing important battles.

June is a heavy OV month across the country. Hopefully we’ll shake out a few commits before July. I don’t really have a take on the class just yet. It looks a lot more promising than 2022 did at this point. But there’s a long ways to go

They got worked on the Portal front for months, and now, the last few guys they were in on conveniently can't actually enroll here. So despite having god knows how many spots left, you are being gently told that they're more or less finished other than 1-2 more guys.

This has been a colossal failure, and honestly, the pages on Harsin just keep writing themselves. It doesn't look very promising.

Fair points, Meta.

We were hearing about the transfer issue back in January too with Auburn seemingly having different deadlines. But seems there may have been more to that. We definitely missed a ton in the portal, though. But I was mostly responding to Janga’s question about the hold up. I don’t think, whether they wanted to be done or not, that we’re adding much more. We’re kinda done there. And portal recruiting is kinda done in general for guys that want to play in 2022. I suppose some more guys could enter but we’d need out of conference transfers at this point. They’ll need OL help in the portal for 2023 and probably another LB and DT.

I’m certainly not giving the staff high marks on all of that. Just trying to recap what’s happened and what will probably happen with the portal moving forward

What can you give the staff high marks on?

To me it’s all in a cloud. We see better organization, more offerings to quality recruits. We are making their lists.

There’s justvthis gut feeling we end up only a little better than 20 and that isn’t going to keep Harsin around.

Reminds me of the Lebo days. Good Xsan and Os coach. Terrible recruiter.

The biggest recruiting bright spot is Etheridge.

Kinda average across the board though in terms of recruiting to date. Which is a bad spot for Auburn to be in the SECw. A lot do this can change if any of this optimism is ultimately realized with this 2023 class. But to date, not much to praise yet. And Auburn’s got a tougher road with a healthier UF and LSU.

Somewhat interesting rule changes could be coming:

-Two transfer periods per calendar year lasting 5 weeks each.
-Simplified recruiting/contact calendar.
-2 year waiver on the 25 initial scholarships per year, letting coaches sign however many players they need in order to hit the 85 limit

I mean at least post the full quote so people don't freak out. He went on to say that he doesn't keep up with sports that much any more, all of that time goes to being a grandfather
