I think I will wait until closer to signing day before anything with Hughley comes clear. Obviously he doesn't know what exactly he wants to do.

Oh he knows exactly what he wants to do, and its cashing a check with the right number of zeros, thats what this dance is about, and it will become more common than hat switching now that the NIL is in full swing.

You’re correct that the rules don’t allow it. You’re naive if you think anyone is following them. Including Auburn.

Saban didn’t mistakenly say A&M bought their recruiting class. Coaches and ADs aren’t begging for cash because they can’t offer that same cash to recruits. It’s silly to pretend it’s not happening

Auburn isn’t a victim. They’re just not doing it very well right now

Corch, you cannot pay them "to" attend your school but nothing says you cant pay them "when" they attend your school. There may not be a written contract til after enrollment, but you certainly would not reneg on a verbal monetary agreement or you would never get another kid to your school. And if I agree to a persnal services contract, nothing says that the kid has to come to my school to comply with my contract.

Our boosters are still paying off coaches

Ding Ding Ding. Not the only factor, but we'd be fooling ourselves if we tried to argue it isn't impacting our ability to use NIL to the fullest extent we can.

And dont forget they are also paying for a 90 million dollar barber shop/recording studio as well.

Auburn has a huge endowment, but there are many many who donate specifically to the University or their particular school. The number we have for football has been severely tapped and bam here comes NIL.

Jang, you touched on the salary cap, the scary thing is, we have no salary cap AND no long term contracts either.

The other issue that needs to be addressed is the portal, now these kids are just floating their names so they can renegotiate their "financial agreements", it should be if you enter the portal....you are gone, you have crossed the Rubicon.

Many lambasted Harsin because he "did not embrace NIL" he said he didnt like it, guess what Saban said the same thing. He said the bidding would go through the roof for players and hurt smaller schools.

Saban also said something prophetic about the portal. He said many people are saying I will lose many players because they want to play and will leave for another team (Mac Jones and Bryce Young say hey), quite the contrary, he said the good players on lesser schools will want to come to him, further weakening the smaller schools. Just look what he did with the portal this past off season, a couple of mediocre spots and he filled them with excellent transfers, and shat out the other end a couple of bust players.

For the people who keep blaming NIL.. how much do you think these kids are actually being paid? Like how much do you think Lew is going to get? I'm curious to see people's guesses compared to what I've seen said about NIL payouts in general.

well we know Miami paid $400K/year for a decent bball player and Texas Tech is paying $25K/year to each player

Not sure on Lew specifically. Ryan Day thought they needed $12million per class to compete for their usual recruiting standards. I saw where Auburn’s newest NIL is budgeting nearly $10m a season going forward

Is that just for football or all sports?

I can't remember where I read it or I'd link it, but it was probably from ON3. It said the only players really even approaching million dollar deals was top 150 players (give to take obviously). Elite QBs can get multiple millions obviously. After that it starts dropping down pretty significantly.. top 250 players can still get mid hundred thousands, but a few can get into the 700-800k range. After that it drops off even more and most players outside of the top 300 are getting less than 100k.

Just from knowing that.. my guess on someone like Lew would be in the 250k range. Someone like JC Hart though is probably getting 50k or less.

The reason I bring this up is because even with our NIL behind.. we still do have NIL money and should be able to afford these level of players. Add in that we've missed on most of our top targets and we should actually be able to overpay on some key guys in this class (Lew and Hughley).

So long story short, yes NIL needs to be better, but we should still be getting and able to afford some of these guys we keep missing on.

Assuming they’ve got projections for NIL on each target, they may have a cap on what they’re willing to give a guy like Lew, who might be one of 2 centers in the class for us

Holy cow. I would have never guessed 10 mil or 100k for a Lew. That’s crazy ridiculous!!!

Remember we have to sign some of our current players as well, I think thats why Tank was flirting with the portal and suddenly got quiet when the check cleared.

Recruiting kids every year now.
