Damari says he is a part of a group of 8 that basically forms a kind of a leadership nucleus. Thorne is one of those 8.

About the WRs to consider is Var, Brown, Moore, and MJJ are all out with injuries of varying severity. That’s about all of our returning WRs it seems.

Burton, Hooks, and Shorter are on day 9 in the offense. I would say most of those are the majority of the starters after getting everything figured out.

I love Omari and Fair and think they will play a big role over the years for AU but the WR starters have been Omari, Fair, and Maudner. I don’t think they will be starters or the top 3. Fair has a chance to be a number 1 or 2 at the slot if Burton doesn’t jump him. Omari and Maudner won’t be starters and not sure they will be in the 2 deep

We have ALOT of defensive interior linemen, and dont forget Darron Reed who came in the summer who was highly regarded coming out of HS and Quientrail Travis as well and checked in at 6 4 and 320lbs, the JC highly ranked DT who came in the summer.

One thing Freeze mentioned during the presser was the amount of people they were shuffling in, and he seemed a little annoyed, as if they were coming and going so fast it was hard to get a good look at any one of them, and hard for them to get aligned with the total defense. Hopefully.

On another note, you think Coach Davis and the receivers have been doing a little film work the past two days

Lol. Yes but depends a lot on if it was confusion on what they were supposed to do or because of a “loaf”.

Freeze seem to make it pretty clear he couldn’t get a great read from the QBs because the WR wasn’t where they were supposed to be either not doing the right thing or “loafing”

From Roberts:

quote:

“So he’s got to play himself into shape. He wasn’t here for the summer for conditioning, weight-lifting, all that kind of stuff, probably a little bit out of shape, a little behind mentally right now, so we haven’t really seen what he’s capable of doing.”

Yeah. He also didn’t arrive at Auburn until the day before camp started. He has a lot of ground to make up.

And I thought it was an old weight listing when they had him at 280 was old news. Sounds like someone who should have stayed in JC

I listened to a podcast about Philip Mongomery with a Baylor guy, and he said Philip's system is designed to allow loafing on the side of the field where the play isn't targeted. Philip wants to keep his WR's fresh and he allows them to take the play off if it isn't coming to their side. This was from his high school days, but apparently he also ran it this way at Baylor. I don't know if Freeze feels the same way, and I think they are running Freeze's system anyway, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Great, so we can allow the QB just to really, really focus on the one receiver for the entire play. No need to shift his focus to anyone else.

Kind of makes sense of what the former player who was at the scrimmage complaining about the receivers not blocking down field.

That’s great until the QB is having to scramble, and nobody else is trying to get open and help them out.

Looking forward to watching and seeing exactly what our offense will do. I can't see how that would be fully beneficial if in fact our WR's are asked to loaf?

Based on what I've gathered I'd rank the QB room
1. Holden
2. Robby
3. Thorne
Did anybody miss this? From the war rapport dudes..

I listened to their podcast explaining a little. They think the floor for all 3 QBs was raised after scrimmage. Not that one played bad but all are doing good things. They have been hearing, from 2nd hand sources, that Holden is having a great fall camp. They say they haven’t seen anything and they are just relying on 2nd hand info, and not to look to hard into it. They don’t claim to have insider knowledge or anything.

They also said that play calling is different when Ashford is in to take advantage of his skill set. And because of that he will be #1 or #2.
