Yeah. How many snaps did he play? I know Steele had a hard-on for him. Lets get another player in the portal that can help us.

Looks like we're pretty much done with transfers on D except maybe the Kansas DL. Is there anything out there about looking for a WR? I had heard some hints at us looking at someone from the G5 but nothing more than that. Seems like an experienced receiver would be an obvious target.

Texas A&M LB likely headed to AU if he receives an offer as well. AU is actively talking to him.

Good point, I forgot about him. Maybe Domio leaving opens up another spot for him?

I believe AU is expecting the NCAA to pass a scholarship limit forgiveness rule to help alleviate the pain the limit has currently placed on the situation.

I’d be pretty confident that relief is on the way based on how other teams are signing portal players without much thought to the 2022 scholarship class

The super seniors don’t count against the 85. The handful that decided to use the Covid exemption.

Anyone else added does. Undergrad transfers count toward either this or next year’s 25. Grad transfers only count toward the 85

AUEE13 I think outside of the Kansas DL guy we are only looking at OT, WR, and QB. Probably 1 each if we find the right guy. I don't think we bring anyone in that can't compete as a starter this year or next.

I do however expect the OL to be improved. Just worry about left tackle. We have 3 legit OL coaches on staff to work with the players.

Not counting Marcus Harris, they are looking at taking upwards of ~6 MORE transfers (so ~7-ish more total). QB, WR, RB, OL and likely 2 more best-available.

They will gladly eat into 2022 scholarships and it is the right move. The transfer portal has opened up a massive opportunity to re-tool the roster in one offseason. They're not looking to throw next year away, and given what they can do/have done so far, they can pretty easily scrap together a solid team for next season barring things like QB play and what they can find on the OL (there was an elite guard from Marshall who just entered today - not a Tackle but could be a massive upgrade regardless).

The transfers are worth more to us than 2022 recruits right now. They are simply too far behind in the cycle and there are still no visits until June. They're not "giving up" on the 2022 class, but by bringing in a ton of transfers who have already shown they can play, we can put a solid season on the field in year one which will get the ball rolling for 2023 and beyond. If they evaluate and develop well this also gives us an opportunity to potentially send a few of these kids to the NFL Draft really quickly, which is what recruits mainly want to see.

I can easily see the transfer portal become a thing where lots of teams just divert ~5+ spots every year from their HS class and use them on promising kids who slipped through the cracks out of HS.

This is why you have seen an exodus of guys transfer out - they want the spots for incoming transfers. You've seen them trade out three DB's who barely saw the field and replace them with three guys who have already produced. That entire group now looks like its going to be potentially very good.

Agreed, I think the staff is using the transfer portal aggressively to fill holes quickly with experienced players, and I think right now it's the right move because having a good season this year will help kick off better high school recruiting in the near term. The transfer portal right now is basically an upgrade over signing JUCO players with potentially more years of eligibility.

Also going back to my question from earlier, JLee seems to think Auburn is (indirectly) talking with a couple of OTs and a WR who haven't officially entered the portal yet.

The big watch at WR is Jalen Tolbert from South Alabama who is legitimately one of the ~10-15 best returning receivers in the nation heading into next season. He is rumored to be contemplating entering the portal. He is an NFL talent - tall and fast and could immediately transform our offense.

Ive never watched USA, what kind of receiver is Tolbert? More of a speed guy? Possession? Complete WR? I assume if he ended up at USA then Coach CWill probably also recruited him at Troy

He's a complete receiver. 6'3 with deep play ability and jump ball skills. I think he graded out in the top ~5-10 in both contested catches and explosive plays (in the same category as DeVonta Smith) last season. He's much better than Seth Williams was.

I like the idea of sacrificing class of 2022 spots to bring in 6 or 7 transfers that can play now. It all made sense. Did you connect the dots or are you privy to inside knowledge?

I think if anyone has done more with less before it's Harsin but I think we will get very good classes going forward. Say what you will about Friend as a coach but he has help to do that, he can recruit. So can Bobo. DL coach will figure it out fast, Caddy will keep getting better too.

I was feeling pretty good about our coaches until you said Bobo. Now I’m back to wondering where our program is at.

I mean say what you will about Bobo’s offense being old-school, but, the dude definitely can recruit! So many connections throughout Georgia, especially South Georgia.
