Philon went on to have a pretty good career at Arkansas. I just checked and he's in the NFL. Good for him.

Our FG commit at Auburn High School just kicked a 67 yard field goal during practice

they took this guy just to keep Auburn from getting him. Not sure he ever played a down for them.
Did that one top 100 kid that took a gray shirt from bama over scholly offers from pretty much the rest of the SEC ever do anything? I think his name was like Jarez Parks.

I’d be surprised, but he’s 2023 so I expect the staff to stay on him over the next year.

Steve Wilfong and Brandon Huffman (national guys) just put in high-confidence CB's on Clemons to Oregon. KN is apparently likely to follow suit. Looks like we lost that one, oh well :\

Just read that. I think the WR Coach change plus Oregon hitting the gas put us out of reach, ultimately.
Clemons was a guy that I’ve had penciled into the class for a few months now. He’s a guy they recruited hard since January and was a top priority. This is a big loss for this ‘22 class and a true defeat on the trail for this staff.

If we miss out on him after all this time thats a huge miss.. I think we're still trailing on Antonio Williams too. We gotta hire some recruiters in the off season..

I don't think the WR coaching change did anything. This looks like the case of a kid who was just waiting for Oregon to prioritize him. I have no idea why they slow played him so much, but they had 4 receivers committed which is what made me confident. They obviously flipped that class upside down with what looks like two guys going elsewhere, and Clemons all of a sudden becoming a big target for them.

Should have hired Cristobal, amirite?

Interesting since our WR's have been actually catching the passes since the change. I wish kids were a little more logical in the process of recruiting sometimes.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. Recruiting is so relationship based. I don’t think it was the primary concern for Clemons but it didn’t help. Especially when Momma Oregon is calling because they’re suddenly hemorrhaging WR commits (probably losing another one soon)
It’s why it was hard for this staff to come in and make waves in 2022. Anyway, gotta get Williams now. Fortunately, Bobo seems to have been the point person on Williams since the start

Oh I know it’s relationship based Jones I just said I wish is all. I mean my daughter used a wee bit of common sense in her picking a college to play volleyball. However, at the end of the day she loves her coaches. All the other schools we went to her relationship or how comfortable she felt with the coaches won out. However, the school also had the degree she wants and location is nice.
I have said from the get go 23’ and 24’ is where I am focused to see how our recruiting goes.

My thought for this class was top 20 (closer to top 15 the better) with some really good pieces. Needs to maintain the 50/50 4*+/3* ratio and it needs to.
I still think it gets into the top 20. I still think we’ll get some great pieces and I think we’ll need a 3* guy to get a bump to achieve the ratio.
But as I said with Corch earlier this year, this has to be the end of this type of patchwork recruiting. There’s really no excuse starting with the 2023 class and we probably can’t go 3 straight subpar classes and expect to win conference championships or more.
I’m still optimistic but I hoped that this Clemons recruitment was a harbinger of things to come

I hate the thought of this year’s team might be the most talented team we have in a while. But it might be a reality with the way recruiting has been going lately.

Has Clemons been on a visit this year?
Posted on 11/3/21 at 6:15 pm to TheJones
We need to fix NIL, drop UA and switch to Nike, aggressively market our new Football facility, and have a banner year along with a Heisman contender soon. That’s the only way. Hiring an assistant coach who is a recruiting machine would also help.
