Oregon just got a commit from a 4* WR not named Clemons.

I think Clemons is all AU. I think that’s been the case since he visited in June

Forgot to pass this along the other day.

Nick Eason has begun recruiting 4* DL (PSU commit) Zane Durant. He’s a Florida kid. Another guy to keep an eye on to see if he visits this fall

Perry, Woodyard, and Clemons all dropped in the updated Rivals 250. The first two dropped more than 50 spots. So feel free to insert “Auburn lock” joke here.

Looks like Clemons only dropped 6 spots. Probably because of guys that jumped up because I think he moved up technically in the WR ranking.

I think Woodyard and Perry are ranked about right on Rivals now. Doubt we see them move much more

We might know one guy that Auburn prefers at DT

3* DT Quentel Jones

KN says they’re pushing for a OV

Got the size already (could probably lose a decent amount of fat and add muscle) and moves really well.

Woodyard flipping from Bama would be interesting. I don't remember the last time that a Bama commit flipped to us.

I think of Foster but that didn’t turn out well for us

At this point in the process, how are we feeling about our class? Do y’all think we will be able to snag more 4 stars and maybe a 5 star or two? I’m good with 4 stars, but if the large majority of our class is 3 stars... I don’t feel so great. I know the argument is Harsin needs a little leeway to get his recruiting bearings down in SEC country, but I’m a little worried he may get himself in an early hole he can’t climb out of quickly enough.

It will be a down year.

#20-25 probably which isn’t good for us. We’ll see how good of an evaluator Harsin is and whether he can develop guys.

That’s just my guess based on seeing the guys we’re in it for. I haven’t done the math like Jonesy or somebody will probably do

This should be expected. Prior staff didn't do us any favors.

Doubt we get any 5*s but we will definitely have more 4*s soon.

Not to be a downer but do y’all not see the pattern in saying this?

There’s certain things that get said every coaching change. “Former staff quit recruiting” “Culture is so much different and better now than it was under the old staff” etc etc. There might be truths in that but i kinda get tired of those excuses. If it’s said every single time a coaching change is made then either it’s not true or it’s not really an excuse.

Fact of the matter is there are coaches that bring in excitement immediately when they get hired and it generates success in recruiting early on. Clearly we never thought Harsin was going to be that guy and that’s fine. We’ll have to see how he evaluates and develops talent for now and hopefully he’ll get his footing in recruiting later on.

I just get tired of blaming the old staff for everything every single time we hire a new coach.

I like Harsin so far. I think there’s a decent chance he’ll be a good coach for us but there’s things to be worried about and we just have to wait and see what he does.

Prior staff was bad at coaching and scheming especially at Oline. The S&G program as well. Listen to what the players are saying about what has changed. This staff is sooo much better. They know and teach football.

I agree that it can be old, tiring, and lazy to throw everything on the old staff but there's also the reality that they were fired for a reason and it wasn't because everything was going great. I think most people are just ready for the season to start and have an itch they can't scratch.

ETA: But this is a whole other discussion. Excited that recruiting has seemingly taken a turn for the better. Corch, I know you have the hookup at HT. Any insight as to where Finkley is leaning? It cracks me up that in every picture he looks like he's ready to murder someone

Loaded question. The class is going to have some really good players for us but, as a whole, is inadequate to compete year in, year out in the SEC. However, given that these coaches could only start seeing these kids for a month and June plus a few weeks before this current fall camp, they’ve done about as well as you can expect. They’ve lost a couple of OL battles to FSU. That’s not awesome. But I’ll talk about that at the end of this post.

Tomorrow we’ll add 4* S Tre Donaldson and 4* WR Omari Kelly. In a few weeks we’ll land 4* Darius Clemons. That’s not all we can expect in terms of blue chippers but that’s what’s coming down the pike. Our kicker aside, those guys put us squarely within a 4* average rating and help us maintain the blue chip ratio.

It’s fair to worry about. They’re lacking relationships right now. Derek Mason wasn’t pursuing a lot of these blue chip guys at Vandy. Bobo has ties to the area but spent most of the last decade in Colorado. Friend, as I warned, is a hit and miss recruiter.

I think this class will be in the top 25, probably top 20. I think the average recruit ranking will be top 20. We saw from Gus that we really needed to be even better than the 8-12 range he was getting us to so obviously this class doesn’t get it done long term.

Since he was hired I’ve cautioned against fully writing the book on this staff’s recruiting ability with only this ‘22 class. Personally, I think 2023 will be the measuring stick. FSU had a dogshit 2021 class and 2020 season under a new coach and now they’re rolling on the trail. It takes time and takes relationships with recruits. And it takes film of the system they’re going to be playing in. And we’ve gotta get these kids on campus for game days. That starts soon. That’s a huge selling point.
