Huge news - my only concern is he may be committing to secure his spot in our class but could still flip to Stanford if or when he gets in.
This is why I wish we'd take both him and Tisdol.

DE Donell Harris (number 4 player in the country and number 1 WDE for '21) reclassified to this year and list Auburn in his top 5. Bama, UGA, Clemson, and Texas AM are the other 4.

CBs rolling in for AU for Steiner and SC for Tisdol. Wish we’d get both but at least we should at least get one.
If we miss on Webb would we take Tisdol?

Is that Benton kid still at Bama, ever expected to contribute?

Kind of related, kind of not related but I heard on JOX last week that Ben Davis is now a Junior and only seen time in 3 shite games in mop up duty. Crazy considering he was the #1 ILB in his class.

Yet kids still flock there to sit on the bench.

Could Auburn add 2nd QB in 2020 signing class?
quote:
Haynes King, a 4-star quarterback from Longview, Texas, originally planned to make his college decision last week.
He instead hit the delay button.
The rangy 4-star quarterback who led his team to a Texas high school title last fall needed more more time to decide between his four finalists of Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Duke.
“They were too close to make that decision,” King said at the Elite 11 quarterback competition in Frisco, Texas. “I tried to look at in that perspective where I’m making the decision what’s the best situation for me, but all of them have great situations.”
quote:
Auburn currently has 11 commitments for the Class of 2020, including 3-star Florida prep star Chayil Garnett, and Tennessee has a commitment from fellow Elite 11 competitor Harrison Bailey, a 4-star prospect from Marietta, Georgia. Duke has Luca Diamont, a 3-star from Los Angeles.
Texas A&M – largely considered the favorite to land King -- doesn’t currently have a committed quarterback and three of its top four committed players are wide receivers, including 5-star Demond Demas.
quote:
Does the presence of another committed quarterback impact King’s decision?
“It doesn’t have an effect at all,” King said. “As I looked into recruiting, every year is going to have great competition. It might be the year before you, (but) it’s going to a great quarterback year. Somebody takes me and the year after me they’re going to be trying to recruit just as good, if not better, trying to find one.
“Other than that, it’s going to be competition everywhere. It’s just how you respond to that,” he added. “Are you going to outwork the other dude? So, that deal is not going to bother me.”
King is rated the third-best dual-threat quarterback in the country and the nation’s No. 79 prospect, according to the 247Sports Compsite rankings. That places him ahead of Bailey (ranked No. 120 nationally), Diamont (ranked No. 433 nationally), and Garnett (ranked 709 nationally).
quote:
What does King like about Auburn?
“When I was hanging with the players, it kind of sent out a vide where it’s like a welcoming vibe,” he said. “Everyone is there to have fun, but when it’s time to get busy and get serious, it’s time to work. They had that vibe that everybody is here to work, but everybody is for everybody.”
quote:
King led Longview to the Texas Class 6A Division II state championship last year, completing for 183-of-273 passes for 3,677 yards and 41 touchdowns with four interceptions. He added 576 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 71 carries and also caught a touchdown pass.
King earned the Associated Press Texas Offensive Player of the Year and the Class 6A AP Offensive Player of the Year last season, and he’s thrown for 5,771 yards and 66 touchdowns in 27 career high school starts. He’s coached by his father at Longview.
quote:
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn hasn’t named a starting quarterback for the 2019 season opener against Oregon, although the Tigers exited spring practice with true freshman Bo Nix and redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood battling.
Malik Willis opted to transfer after spring practice, leaving former minor league baseball player Cord Sandberg as Auburn’s only other scholarship quarterback.
If Gatewood or Nix opted to transfer after losing out on the starting job, it might make sense for Auburn to snag two quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle.
quote:
“It’s shown when Auburn has a good triggerman, they’re very successful,” King said.

He’s got to be a RS junior too. He came in with Mac Wilson and Mac is already in the pros.
Nobody really knows why Ben Davis hasn’t worked out.

4* WR Capers committed according to Neibuhr:

4* 2020 WR Ze'Vian Capers commits to Auburn
quote:
FRISCO, TEXAS -- Auburn's receiver class for 2020 already was really good entering July. On the first day of the month, it just got a whole lot better.
Four-star recruit Ze'Vian Capers of Apharetta (Ga.) Denmark on Monday committed to the Tigers over South Carolina and Tennessee. The 6-feet-3.5, 195-pound Capers is the No. 25 receiver and No. 112 overall recruit nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. A former Arkansas commitment, he has a stellar 94.76 rating.
Capers is commitment No. 12 for Auburn and the sixth since June 1. The Tigers now have the No. 19 class in the country, up from No. 24 before Capers' commitment, and that could improve again Tuesday. That's when 4-star linebacker Wesley Steiner of Georgia will announce his commitment. He's down to Auburn and Stanford.
quote:
For Capers, the decision to pick Auburn apparently wasn't that difficult.
"It was just having the chance to play early and the relationships with Coach (Gus) Malzahn and (receivers coach Kodi Burns," Capers said.
quote:
Capers committed to Arkansas on Feb. 8 but then things got interesting.
Tennessee offered him March 25. Auburn followed May 15. Meanwhile, South Carolina also became a major factor. At one time, some even thought the Gamecocks had become the team most likely to flip Capers from the Razorbacks.
quote:
He visited them June 1 for Big Cat Weekend and that went extremely well. On June 6, Capers returned to Auburn to camp for the Tigers staff. While there, he got a ton of personal attention from Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and receivers coach Kodi Burns. After that camp, Capers told Auburn Undercover his commitment to Arkansas was up in the air. The following day, he de-committed.
Camping with the Tigers was a memorable moment, according to Capers.
"It was a great experience going against some great competition," Capers said. "Coach said he liked how I competed and how I performed when I was out there."
quote:
Capers is that tall and lengthy receiver type the Tigers seem to love. At this stage, he is fairly polished for a high school recruit. When camping at Auburn recently, he had little trouble off the ball, getting in and out of his breaks well and creating separation. His hands are above average and so is his ability after the catch. In 2018, he had 60 catches for 1,182 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With Auburn, he likes what he has seen thus far from two young quarterbacks on the roster -- Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix.
"Bo, he's going to be the truth," Capers said. "He's going to be a prodigy, some as Joey."

Capers is having a pretty good showing at the Opening too. Kobe Hudson and Simpson have also looked good.
Steiner got the highest athletic rating apparently
Haynes King is leading the elite 11 comp so far and has looked good. From what I've read he throw a duck, but its accurate. He ran a 4.5 40(Hand timed) and had a long throw of 60 yards (Some really underwhelming throws from some QBs.. A few in the low 50's and one guy in the 40's)

Some tidbits by KN:
The Capers commitment puts us at 19 in the recruiting rankings. Up ten spots from the start of June. The Steiner commitment could put us at 12 according to today’s numbers.
Tank says he is done taking visits and have seen everything he needs to see. He says he will probably commit to his preferred school by the start of the football season.

We have got to hire a recruiter at OL. If not, we gonna have to move some of these WR to the trenches. And hope no one notices.

Probably good news for Steiner and Bigsby

Steiner won The Opening football rating championship with a 148.17. The rating consists of the forty, vertical jump, a short shuttle agility drill, and a powerball throw.
To give context to his score and to his freakish athletic ability, a UGA defensive end won it last year with a 141.76 while Pappoa had a 140.25. This year, the second highest score was 140.04 from an Ohio State WR commitment.
Steiner produced a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, 40.2-inch vertical jump, 4.00 short shuttle and 42.5-foot powerball throw.
Given he’s also recruited by Stanford, he’s apparently pretty damn smart too. He’s probably my favorite player this class.
