Obviously but this isn't a situation warranting a Brannigan witch hunt of Gus.

We have attrition every single year. I would call it recurring and something that is reliable enough to plan on.

Correct, but that attrition is already calculated into how many we’re taking.

You guys have simply lost count of the LBs on this roster. In this last cycle some of the same people here complaining about numbers at that position are advocating for even more LBs this year. We didn’t even need what we took last cycle

Below are the eight LBs that will be on roster in 2020 BEFORE we enroll the class we’re working on.

Kam Brown(Fr) (could be a FB, but he’s a LB for now)
Octavious (Fr)
Owen Pappoe (Fr)
Michael Harris (RS-Fr)
Josh Marsh (RS- Fr)
Zackoby McClain (SO)
Chandler Wooten (JR)
KJ Britt (JR)

So in addition to those guys, you all want to add 5 more:

Webb
Simpson
Riley
Tisdol
Steiner

That would be 13 guys for 2 (3 on 15% of our snaps) spots on the field. Our LB position would incorporate more than 15% of our total 85 scholarships.

This is pure lunacy, my good dudes.

Britt and Wooten are solid at best and will be seniors these guys freshman year. Pappoe obvioulsy has potential and McClain. The rest are not players you win titles with. Take the talent. Plenty of dead weight already.

They contribute to the 85 total regardless of how they contribute on the field. That’s the problem and the argument all in one.

After winning an SECC with Kris Frost and Jake Holland at LB, I think you can win with just about anyone.

Ha fair point, but Nick Marshall ain't walking through that door.

My point is the scholarships have to be used. If we don't use them on guys with talent it's going to go to a 15th WR or 3* QB who will never ever contribute or another lowly rated guard. Give me the talent over the numbers. We can try to fill those holes with a grad transfer or JUCO guy next year.

Coaches don’t take guys they expect to fail. That’s kind of the point. You can disagree as a fan but folks signed to scholarship are expected to produce. You budget for some of them not to. But you can’t spend that whole budget on one position when it’s already maxed out. And it’s absolutely jam packed. We certainly don’t even need 4 this class

Good programs run into this problem in recruiting. Sucks to turn away talented guys but it’s diminishing returns after a certain point

How many WR's do you think we have on our roster? You keep bringing this up but we are loaded more at LB than we are receiver. With Fuqua transferring, we'll have 8 WR's on scholarship, including the 3 we have committed right now to fill at list 3 positions.

Next year, only scholarship QB's we'll have are Nix, Gatewood, and Sandberg. If you don't like Garnett as a prospect, that's fine, but acting like taking a QB in this class is dumb is just ludicrous.

We don't not use that name here.

Yeah you can win with just about anybody when you can run the ball and score points. But when your HC mind melts to the point of thinking a full twirl action dive run is a good idea, you need SEC/NFL potential players.

I agree with the rest of your post but I disagree with one thing...I believe we absolutely needed what we signed last year...I think KB ends up being a FB....so I think we would be stepping up with 4.....with the talent that is there...but we really only need 3

We aren’t loaded at LB at all is my take. We have numbers but lack elite quality. If we have a chance to get to level I say take it. If that means one less backup plan at another position so be it.

Got it. You’d rather take a 5th LB instead of Garnett.

We seem to be piling talent up at LB and WR all the while or OL depth has been an issue for years. It’s mind boggling how we seemingly go heavy in certain positions while ignoring others.

I don’t think it’s as much that we are ignoring it as we are just striking out and not recruiting well. TWill and Kodi are just really good recruiters, so we are getting good recruits there and lots of them. OL recruiters have been terrible and it’s caused the issues.

It’s frustrating for sure though. OL and DL recruiting have just been very inconsistent when it comes to positions breakdowns.

Kind of what I'm thinking too. I could be wrong but it seems like Zakoby is a project and Josh Marsh will never play a meaningful down for AU.

Maybe but those aren't the trending thoughts on them among AU reporters right now. Don't know if they will pan out but both are expected to contribute.

He's a projected starter...

Remember, the LB coach was a 210-lb MLB in the SEC before spread offenses were the norm.
