Could national champions become factor for Austin 4-star RB Asa Martin? (AL.com)
quote:

For most of this summer, Austin four-star running back Asa Martin has had a clear top three.

Monday, he'll decide if Clemson will enter the mix.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Martin will make the trip to see the defending national champions. His mother will join him. Clemson has not offered, but he's expecting it on the trip.

Alabama, Auburn and Florida make up Martin's top three, with his planned commitment date of Aug. 24.

"They're not added to (the top group) yet," Martin said Thursday at the USA Football 7on7 national championships in Hoover. "They've got to show me the same thing other schools have. I've been talking to them, but I don't really have a good relationship yet. My mom has to be comfortable."

It's a hectic time for Martin, and he said he's hearing from coaches nonstop while also taking a summer class so he can graduate in December. Martin has visited Ole Miss, but the Rebels won't be a factor.

Martin will visit Alabama on Friday and Auburn Saturday for their respective recruiting events.

Here's what he said about his finalists on Thursday.

AUBURN: "The school has probably been recruiting me the longest. It feels like home around there. I have a great relationship with (offensive coordinator) Coach (Chip) Lindsey and (running backs) Coach (Tim) Horton. What they do on offense is one of the best fits for me because we run some of the same stuff at Austin."

ALABAMA: "The thing with them, it's the mecca of college football. They're going to be in the position to win a national championship every year and they send their guys to the NFL. That's what helps most about them."

FLORIDA: "My relationship with (assistant) Coach (JaJuan) Seider is probably the biggest asset with them. I love it in Gainesville too. It's a very nice town. It's beautiful. Me living in Florida gives them a little up too, living there last year (going to IMG Academy)."

Martin will visit his three finalists once more before his commitment. No one has separated themselves, he said.

"Everybody's about even," Martin said. "If I knew where I was going, I'd go ahead and get it over with. The recruiting process is long and tiring."

All three are recruiting Martin at running back. He has worked some in the slot at Alabama's camp. Martin said that none of the schools have mentioned defense, though he also plays safety for Austin.

Tournament play starts on Saturday morning, with games at the Hoover Met and Hoover Soccer Fields. Martin and Austin face Thompson at 9 a.m. at the soccer fields in their first double-elimination game.

Rush Propst's star quarterback to throw for Alabama, Auburn (AL.com)
quote:

A sleeper quarterback candidate to join Alabama or Auburn's class plays for one of the most recognized names in Alabama high school football history.

Steven Krajewski is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound three-star 2018 recruit from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Ga., and he's now the starting quarterback for Rush Propst, who won multiple state championships at Hoover High School last decade.

Krajewski will throw for Alabama and Auburn on Saturday. His top offers now include Connecticut, Syracuse and Georgia State, but there's potential for more.

"He's climbing the ladder fast," Propst said while Colquitt County was in Hoover for the USA Football 7on7 championships. "I think he's one of the top three quarterbacks in the state of Georgia."

Given what that state has in terms of star quarterback, it's an enormous compliment. Propst believes that five-star recruits Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence - perhaps the nation's top two prospects nationally - are No. 1 and 2 in some order. Then there's Krajewski.

But he's entering his first year as a starter, so he wasn't on many schools' radar until this spring. Krajewski moved to Georgia before last season from Michigan after his father George retired and wanted to live in warmer weather. He didn't start last season as the Packers had an established senior starter.

Now, it's his time to shine. Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey have been in contact and both want to see him perform on their campus.

"They wouldn't have invited him to camp to throw if they didn't like him," Propst said. "They need to see him live and in color and that's what we're going to go."

Krajewski performed in front of Georgia coaches at a recent 7on7 tournament there, one which Colquitt County win and Propst praised his quarterback's performance. The Bulldogs, like Auburn, are all in for Fields and likely waiting to see what he does before going after another quarterback.

The plan is for Krajewski to visit Tallahassee, Fla., and throw for Florida State on Thursday, and then travel to Tuscaloosa on Friday. He'll throw for Alabama coaches on Saturday morning before making the trip to Auburn that afternoon to throw for Auburn coaches. Following that, he'll visit Syracuse and UConn early the next week.

Propst said Krajewski has gotten better with each camp performance.

"It's an incredible opportunity to go throw for such great schools," Krajewski said. "I'm very excited. I can't wait. I'm just truly blessed to have that opportunity.

"The coaches have talked to me. I've got to go in with the mindset that I'm the best one there."

Krajewski said that he's heard more from Auburn at this point than Alabama. The Tigers have a quarterback commitment in Joey Gatewood from Jacksonville, Fla., but would like to sign two. Alabama does not have a quarterback committed yet for this class.

It's clear that Fields is the top option, not just for those two schools but others such as Georgia. Fields visited Auburn on Thursday and Alabama expects him to visit again later this week for its Champions Cookout.

"I'm looking forward to throwing for them to show them what I can do," Krajewski said.

Last season, Krajewski hit 20 of 28 passes for 292 yards and five touchdowns. He also runs a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash, Propst said.

Propst said earlier this spring that Krajewski needed to work on his touch, moving around the pocket more and finding his check down.

So far, he keeps getting better. Now, it's on to Krajewski to earn that Power 5 conference offer he desires.

"I think he's a Division I quarterback," Propst said. "I think he's a Power 5 guy. I've been doing this a long time. He's big. He's strong. He loves the game of football. I've seen a lot of them play in that league that's not as good as he is.

"After those two quarterbacks (Fields and Lawrence), I've had a lot of people tell me that Steven is probably the next guy."

No reason to limit our options should JF land elsewhere. Kid is more PRO than anything, but winning is the name of the game.

But when it comes to Gatewood, I always get the same question: What would he do if Auburn landed Fields?

Based on conversations with Gatewood and people around him — nothing. It wouldn’t change anything for Gatewood. He embraces any and all competition.

Great attitude.

Wut? I have not seen anything that said he was Auburn. Most sites still have us 3rd for him.

I would not get your hopes up just yet. ITs Auburn recruiting and UGA is involved.

APPARENTLY he has told Quindarius Monday in their chat group that there was a chance they'd come for the cookout.

PFD, Hunter48 and mikecb22 on the bunker all have Auburn with a strong lead. I'll take their word for it.

UGA site writers are homers. Keith on 247 is not biased to AU b/c he's a UF fan, so I like his insight.

I think most places have us and UGA at the top, but I agree that it's not wise to start counting him. UGA is hearing just as much (if not more) positive news as we are.

No I think most sites have us and UGA at top, with FSU not to far behind. I'll give UGA a slight edge now, due to his recent visit. IMO - UGA 35%, AU 30%, FSU 25%, UF 10%

I dont know what any of that means but if you want a drink, Im game.

But if we are talking sites and percentages, 247 has this right now

FSU - 36%
UGA - 20%
UF - 16%
AU - 12%

Whatever that means

RB Asa Martin prepares for ‘tough decision’ with Alabama, Auburn and Florida visits ahead (SECCountry)
quote:

Asa Martin, state’s top RB, sets up final visit slate

Every college competing for Asa Martin likely has one more on-campus visit before he decides where he’ll play next year.

The top high school running back in Alabama has set an Aug. 24 decision date. Before he announces his decision, Martin plans to visit Clemson, Alabama, Auburn and Florida, which likely will be his last stops before his announcement.

Martin began Monday with his first trip to Clemson in hopes of picking up an offer from the Tigers. He got it, though Martin said at the end of last week that he doesn’t “just want to go out and say they’d enter my list because I don’t really know yet.”

So the emphasis should be placed on the three schools that have been there for months — Auburn, Alabama and Florida.

Martin will visit Alabama on Friday and Auburn on Saturday for each program’s summer cookout. Martin expects Florida will be his last visit.

“I’m just hoping me being there, can I live and thrive in this environment? Every college is different. Can I live and thrive here?” Martin said. “[It] is just about going to all the colleges I’m looking at and seeing if I could live there the next three or four years. It’s just about being comfortable with the coaching staff, as well as the school as a whole.”

Let’s leap into the Crystal Ball sphere to get a look into Martin’s upcoming choice.

Florida and Alabama each own 42 percent of the predictions. Auburn holds 17 percent. Every projection made since May 18 — the day Alabama OC Brian Daboll visited Martin — has favored the Crimson Tide. The general perception has been that since the Alabama offer, the Crimson Tide would land the No. 1 running back in the state yet again.

Martin claims he hasn’t reached that conclusion.

“I don’t. I really don’t. It’s a tough decision,” he said. “Me and my mom talk about it every night, and we’re still trying to figure it out. I don’t really know yet. If I knew that, I’d probably be already committed. I’m still trying to figure it out.”

His final visit to Auburn on Saturday will be an opportunity to spend more time with offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who has become his primary point of contact in short order. The two talk on a daily basis and Martin raved about Lindsey’s “cool, laid-back” demeanor.

It’ll also be a chance for Martin’s mother to have one last experience on the Plains. Her opinion will have a major effect on Martin’s choice.

“Honestly, I have that at all three. They knew my mom is a big factor, so everybody is comfortable and always are talking to my mom. That’s a big thing,” he said.

Martin communicates with several other prospects on a regular basis to see what schools everyone is leaning toward. On the flip side, several committed players have done their part to try to recruit Martin.

Of all those suitors, one 2018 prospect stands out from the rest: Auburn quarterback commit Joey Gatewood.

“Joey, man. We were trying to get up to Auburn together, but he’s going to be up there at the beginning of the week. I talk to Joey the most, no doubt,” Martin said.

Big in-state defensive tackle on verge of decision

Coynis Miller’s recruiting process is nearing an end.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound defensive tackle from Jackson-Olin (Ala.) told SEC Country last month that he planned on moving his commitment up to summer, instead of the end-of-season announcement he originally planned. Miller doubled down last week, saying that he’ll know where he wants to commit by next week.

He only has one thing left to see: Florida.

Miller plans to visit the Gators this weekend, which means he’ll be in Gainesville rather than Tuscaloosa or Auburn for those recruiting cookouts. This will be Miller’s first visit to Florida, so it would be somewhat surprising to see him choose the Gators over either in-state school. But Miller has talked about Florida for a while as a program that could score his commitment.

With that said, I just placed a Crystal Ball prediction for Miller to Auburn, which would be a major win for the Tigers over the Crimson Tide and the Gators.
