Also Badara Traore visiting LSU this weekend. Would not be shocked if he committed to them after visit but we will see

I've seen him play in person several times. He will be the starter in two years, after Stidham leaves. No doubt in my mind (unless Nix comes in and is just phenomenal). He looks like he's toying with the other team when he plays. That's why I wasn't too bothered about Fields going to thUGA.

I think Willis looks pretty good so far, but I need to seem him toss the ball around more. Would be surprised if Gatewood comes in and wins the starting spot over him.

Top Auburn 2019 OT target Darius Thomas feels the Tigers ‘want me here’ (SECCountry)
quote:

Arkansas 2019 OL gets early attention from Auburn

One prospect stood out among the rest at Auburn on Saturday.

Darius Thomas made the visit for the Louisiana-Monroe game. It was a lesser opponent, but it allowed Thomas more 1-on-1 time with coaches before and after the game. He got face-to-face time with coach Gus Malzahn at midfield prior to the game. Thomas also was able to meet with offensive lineman Herb Hand just before leaving town Saturday.

He stands out because, as a high school junior, Thomas stands 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, which is a big reason why the Jonesboro, Ark., offensive tackle finds himself high on the Tigers’ 2019 recruiting priority list.

“I get the feeling they want me here, and that’s why I keep coming back,” he said after his visit. “[Malzahn] was just telling me that I’m doing good right now and that I hope you can imagine yourself here. It was a good game. I wish I would’ve been able to make it to a bigger one, but I had a good experience. I’ll be back.”

This was Thomas’ second visit so far this season. On his other visit, Thomas received an offer. That makes for two memorable experiences so far.

Thomas hopes to make more in the future.

Of the schools he’s visited so far, the visit experiences at Auburn, Georgia and Arkansas stand out. If he visits somewhere next weekend, it’ll be LSU.

Thomas’ commitment is a long way away, so we’re in the early stages of this recruitment. With that said, he’d like to develop a top 5 list at some point, if possible. Everything is wide open for any interested programs.

But Auburn certainly finds itself in solid position early. The Arkansas connection makes it no surprise Malzahn is a factor here.

“I’m considering [Auburn] a lot,” Thomas said. “I really like the coaches. I really like how they play. I like their pro offense and all that. We talked about [the Arkansas connection] earlier. I watched him as a coach. I watched some of their games at ASU [Arkansas State].”

Scratch Auburn linebacker target off list? Perhaps

Auburn already has one linebacker committed in Michael Harris, but expect the Tigers to take one or potentially two more in this cycle.

The recruiting board includes remaining targets such as JJ Peterson, Quay Walker, Channing Tindall and Zakoby McClain. Walker, despite being an Alabama commit, is one to watch. Tindall has seemed like a long shot for the Tigers all cycle, but he’s been in communication with linebackers coach Travis Williams about a potential Iron Bowl visit. McClain could be one to look at as a more down-the-road guy.

Peterson, on the other hand, hasn’t had much information put out there about him recently. SEC Country caught up with him and his high school coach, Rush Propst. Both made it clear Alabama — as has been the case since the beginning — is the clear favorite.

According to Peterson, Auburn hasn’t even been in much contact of late.

“I don’t really talk to them. I haven’t talked to them since the Lowndes game [on Oct. 27]. It’s been a minute,” he said.

That’s a stark difference from his previous comments saying his closest relationship was with Williams. Peterson will make his decision after the season, but for the time being, there’s not a realistic scenario I can draw up where he lands at Auburn over Alabama.

At this point, I think Auburn holds out hope for Walker or Tindall. Otherwise, the Tigers turn to McClain, who seemed like a lock to land in the class during the summer.

Got mixed feelings on this. Hate to see we aren't going hard after an elite player that had us #2. But at same time we have been in this spot before for guys that are clearly going to Bama but we waste a lot of energy trying to change mind. Kind of like fact we are instead focusing efforts elsewhere

Bad tight end recruiting news for Auburn

Michael Parker was one of the prospects who left the Auburn-Georgia game talking about a looming offer. The big tight end from Westminster Christian (Ala.) narrowed his choices to Auburn, Purdue and Central Florida. A source close to the situation said prior to the weekend that Parker’s choice was set to be Auburn sometime this week, with the intention of signing in December.

That plan hit a major speed bump this weekend.

SEC Country learned that Alabama offered Parker, whose brothers both played for the Crimson Tide. Parker comes from a big Alabama family, and it’s always been known — and something Auburn was weary of — that an offer from the Crimson Tide would make it tough to top.

Regardless if Alabama attempts to blueshirt or grayshirt Parker, this appears to be an insurmountable roadblock for the Tigers. I’ll keep you posted if I hear more.

Gonna call this a win. Forced Bama to use a scholarship offer on a guy they probably would have just taken as a preferred walk on. AU doesn't get shafted late in the cycle & has plenty of time to find a guy for TE spot

Commitment coming soon for Class of 2018?

It’s not a guarantee, but I expect an Auburn target to finally commit this week. There isn’t a specific day determined just yet, but I’d imagine Auburn fans will be able to spend their Thanksgiving knowing a new 4-star prospect is committed in Auburn’s 2018 class. Assuming nothing else happened this week, Auburn would leapfrog Michigan for the No. 13 spot in the team rankings.

Will the Richard Jibunor commit watch finally be at an end?

I hope you guys aren’t already counting Nix to Auburn next year. There is a long way to go in his recruitment, and from what I’ve heard, Clemson may be the favorite. Word is he isn’t a very big fan of Gus.

Maybe he doesn’t like Gus I would be pretty surprised if he went to Clemson to sit behind Trevor Lawrence for a few years. Besides Gus probably won’t even be here by then anyway amirite

I am not going to start a new thread, but I have been reading that if Gus does bolt to Arky, Jimbo has stated he wants the AU job. Not sure how that makes me feel.

I'd love for Auburn to not have to pay Gus' buyout.

Don’t realky know how I feel about Jimbo, but we could do worse if Gus left. I’d take.

If Gus left and we had Jimbo to move in quick while everyone else is still frantically searching, I could go for that. It would be good for recruiting, which Gus has been pretty good at too. Prob good for Stidham, not so much for Malik, who would be fun to watch in a Gus offense. But all in all it could be way worse

Either way, we will know after the IB what Gus is doing. I would expect the decision has been made. No way Arky would want to wait for him to be in the playoffs.

Doesn’t Hopper have a brother who is a big recruit in 19 or 20? We should take him.

I'm a little disappointed as I really like Hopper but it's clear we have a prototype of what we want at TE

Blocking and the ability to block from the H-back position.

Being near-OT size is also a plus.

It is well known that Jimbo and the FSU AD are at blows and have been for some time. Plus Jimbo is about to lose a lot of members of his staff after this shite show season. I don't care one way or another. Like someone else said. We could probably do a lot worse.

Jimbo Fisher and Lane Kiffin would both be on my short list for potential head coaches.

Say what you want about Lane Kiffin, but he’s a brilliant offense mind and when he finally matures he will make a damned good head coach. Plus, he wants to stick it to Nick Saban and Alabama. He’s also young and has plenty of years ahead of him.
