I just got around to reading SI National Championship issue. Naturally there is an article about Clemson. It stated they have finished in the top 15 in recruiting for something like the last 6 years. We have been doing that and will continue to do it. It all boils down to "coaching them up". Chiz recruited stars. I would rather recruit need. If we fill needs with this class, it's a good class.

Coach O is known for his great recruiting, what he possibly tells these kids is beyond me.
No one really knows what he's saying. It's the suspense of recognizing a word or phrase that's so intriguing

Malzahn is not known as a great recruiter. Neither was Lashlee. To give Lashlee credit though a lot of kids liked him and he built good relationships on the trail.

I stand by the fact that we're losing traction because we lost our recruiters.

D. Craig
Lance Thompson
Boom
Trob
Trooper
Luper
Thigpen

Those guys were great recruiters. We haven't really replaced them with anyone known for being a good recruiter.

To make matters worse it appears that we will use our 10th assistant on a defensive coach that will coach the Hybrid spots like BUck and Nickel. The word is it will probably be an old friend of Rodney Garner someone that he can work hand / hand with.

I imaging a lot of teams will shuffle coaches around or keep them coaching multiple positions so the 10th assistant can be used a little wiser.

Apparantly Garner only wants to coach DL no LBs or Bucks

You know who's a great recruiter?

>>> Benjamin Franklin

That dude knows how to CLOSE. And I hear he's available. We need him on our staff.

I stand by the fact we're losing traction because we lost games. Yes ace recruiters help but the biggest ace recruiters are double digit win seasons, conference championships, natty appearances and championships, and awards and accolades. We've got the talent to do all of this rn but that's gonna slip away every year if we don't win now and get back into the top 5. A winning SEC program recruits itself with or without ace recruiters.

mark Octavius Matthews off the board. Wheww. I don't mind this one. We better hold on the Barrett now though.

A lot of teams keep their OLB/DE hybrids separate from the DL. I don't want Garner having to teach coverage skills

Also, i Don't see how that role is mutually exclusive with being a good recruiter

We should bring in Kevin Greene specifically. Not because he is an Auburn guy, but because he is a badass

Edit: Greene also is one of the best OLB coaches out there and coaches up Clay Matthews

If I remember correctly, Kevin Greene lobbied for the LB job before we hired T-Will.

I think he expressed interest, didn't really lobby for it. From what I remember the recruiting aspect was the difficult part

So Kevin Greene was one of the AA coaches for Moultry this year. #ItsHappening

According to KN we dropped him. Not a complete shocker since part of his appeal was enrolling early as JUCO. Thought he would stick but sounds like staff (my guess Lindsey) decided to move on. KN thinks we stick with 2 we got but chance we go after a 3rd tho he didn't have any names

Also could be grades. How you don't get eligible in JUCO makes no sense to me

3-star ATH/RB Octavius Matthews of Itawamba C.C. no longer is committed to Auburn.
From the sound of things it was Auburn’s decision.
Matthews the Tigers felt like it was time to part ways.
Auburn still has Devan Barrett and Alaric Williams in the RB class — and the Tigers are feeling better about William’ chances of qualifying.

Apparently we are open to taking both him and Shenker. Lindsey wants some bodies at TE/H-back

Also 2018 3* Andres Fox is visiting this weekend for the junior day. Doubt he stays a 3*. Got a lot of upside

And that's how you know this is a disappointing class. The old "filled needs" spin.

Reminds of the late Tubs days on ITAT.

Yeah, we should recruit like Chiz did and have a lot of high ranking recruits but holes all over the field. frick recruiting rankings. Get players that will help your team win.
