God I hope Steel impresses us with his recruiting. Might make me feel a little better.

JC Shurburtt CB'd the Meyers bros to Auburn

Also a writer at Gatorsports.com CB'd NCM to Auburn and Demetric Warren (the guy that rarely CBs someone to Auburn) has both bros going to AU now

frick. This will deflate some Derrick Brown AU balloons. Looks like his mom is taking over his recruitment and pushing UGA IMO. I didn't listen to the entire interview, not a member so idk maybe there's positive stuff for AU but here's the long (free) excerpt.

From 247 Kipp Adams:
quote:

On vsporto's SEC Recruiting Buzz, his mother, Martha Brown, discussed the top group at length. When asked about her family having the best relationship with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner, Martha also mentioned Bulldogs' defensive line coach Tracy Rocker.

"With Coach Rocker from UGA, he's alway kept in close contact with us," Martha said.

Martha also touched on Auburn potentially having an edge at this stage.

"At this time and we talk ... I think everybody is still on the same level," Martha said. "I know he wants to be fair and we want him to be fair so at the end, we want as a family use all the information we've gotten from the colleges and just make that family decision. My thing is, you observe everybody, get all the information on the table and then at that point we'll decide who's leader or which university will he actually attend."

Last spring, Georgia was the public leader for Brown heading into the summer before he decided to refrain from naming a top school moving forward. His mother says last month leveled the playing field a bit.

"I can definitely tell you that during the shakeup, I think that has put them back on the line with everyone else," she said. "You recruit a kid for so long, then a new coaching staff and everything. I think it made a difference. We tell Derrick, you are going there for the school, because coaches change every day.

"You have to step back, start back over, and take a look at everybody now."

The uncertainty on whether Tracy Rocker would be retained also had an effect.

"I think it did," Martha said. "I think it really did."

Now, with Rocker still on staff, Kirby Smart at the helm, and Mel Tucker in as defensive coordinator, the Bulldogs plan to push for the elite defensive lineman.

"First of all, I know all of them have the experience to get Derrick where he wants to be," Martha said. "I have been talking to Kirby Smart on a regular basis, trying to get to know him as a man also. I think this weekend, we can sit down and talk some more on my perspective, not Derrick's, so I can just get to know him more as a mother.

I don't think she is pushing UGA by that. Seems more like it is wide open and UGA isn't out rather than one school vs the other

How did you get that from what you posted? I'm confused.

FWIW UGA posters think we lead. So do with that what you want.

No matter the situation, still have three weeks to go...

Idk, just what I saw in the tea leaves initially. I want another solid DT badly, almost as much as I want a giant mobile MLB but that isn't fappening.

I'm backed up hard on admin over here trying to setup some low budget construction projects quickly, setting the next Detail here up for their Balikatan exercise, end of deployment awards for my troops etc so I'm looking at things pessimistically.

I went 211deg F. I'm gonna sit out a couple plays here.

Yea that interview wasn't really negative for us. I still think he ends up at UGA but really, really hope to be wrong.

I wish we could have had our visit after UGA.

Just my gut feel but when the moms get involved, it usually doesn't bode well for Auburn for some reason. Gus is not a warm and fuzzy guy and probably doesn't bond well with recruit's female relatives. Hope others on staff fill that void.

I hope we get both Meyers, or neither. Don't want another Alexander brother situation.

Ummmm the "other" brother happens to be a 6'1 DB who was an Under Armour All American, and a 4* top 250 recruit. I'll take him on his own.

Steele, Garner, and Williams went to go see Clayton tonight. They're pushing to get him to take an OV to AU. Right now he's leaning towards taking it. Has a visit to UF this weekend so hopefully that doesn't change his mind. This is a guy I really want at AU

don't get your hopes up. CWM dropped the ball on this kid. We are too far behind at this point. He's gotten comfortable, and frankly excited, about going to UF now.

This is where ignorance rears it's ugly head.

This is just another in a long line of posts that demonstrate the fact you don't KAGDT!

This one made no sense. CWM ignored him for the longest tim only to decide he was a top DE target. Chose UF and we ignored him again

He was ours too with Monty being his cousin

You missed this part of the interview:

Some highlights from Martha Brown:

-Regarding the Auburn visit, she called it a "great weekend."

-"He got a chance to talk to some of the players. He felt good with them."

-"He got a chance to just enjoy the atmosphere, the environment. And I think he had a really good time this weekend."

-About the relationship with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner: "Coach Garner has been since Day 1 been recruiting Derrick, he also has been having interaction with us as parents. And that is the biggest thing in my husband and I's concern. With Coach Rocker from UGA, he's alway kept in close contact with us. And coach (Bo Davis of Bama) and the rest of the coaches also.

-Is Auburn trending some -- maybe having some momentum? "At this time and we talk ... I think everybody is still on the same level. I know he wants to be fair and we want him to be fair so at the end, we want as a family use all the information we've gotten from the colleges and just make that family decision. My thing is, you observe everybody, put everything on the table and then at that point we'll decide who's leader or which university will he actually attend."

-What does his family like most about Auburn? "I like the atmosphere. I like the coaching staff. Because this is the thing, whichever school he goes to he's going to get a great education. As parents, our concern is the men that's going toe surrounding him."

Garner is warm and fuzzy with his parents. Apparently Garner's wife was hanging with the family all weekend too.

I think we can get him. He's changed tunes a little lately. If we make it out of this weekend without him shutting it down, then we have a shot
