Bruce likes Williams at 1 and 2. I'm sure he'll transition full time to one or the other later on. If yall didn't read the article Bruce REALLY like Williams. He said if Williams hadn't torn his ACL in high school then he would have been a 5* and signed with UCLA. Williams grew up a UCLA fan and was being heavily recruited by them and USCw until his injury. He also has some sort of rare condition that allows him to withstand an extreme amount of pain. He played through the torn ACL for like 4 games before his knee became unusable. When he had MRIs for the first time his ACL wasn't just torn it was completely gone! Doctors did a graph to repair. The gragh caused some scar tissue and that's what Dr. Andrews fixed when Williams got here. Williams claims to be 100% now.

I think he did that out of necessity last year. We're a bit deeper this year so I don't think Tahj will get many minutes at two, at least not after the new guys get acclimated. I'm curious to see how New Williams will fit into the lineup.

When we play Dunans at 3 and Canty at point, Tahj isn't a bad option at 2 and I feel like we might see that quite a bit, especially early.

Either way, Tahj will see most of his minutes at PG, IMO. I watched those guys play for a couple hours and I think Dunans and Brown will take almost all of the minutes at the two. I think it'll be something like:

Canty - Tahj
Dunans - Brown
Lang - Purifoy
Harris - Granger
Bowers - Spencer

This isn't necessarily the starting lineup but how I think most minutes will be distributed. The 4 and 5 are almost interchangeable. Also, Granger looks like he's put on quite a bit of muscle too

Obviously, Purifoy is the X factor but I see most minutes going like this..
1- Canty,Tahj,New Will
2- Tahj,Dunans,Brown
3- Dunans,Lang,Harris
4- Bowers,Spencer
5- Harris,Granger,Bowers,Lang

If Purifoy is able to play, he gives us flexibility. I guess I'm not as high on Lang as everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I feel like Lang is a really important and vital role player, but not a player that will ever lead the team in any certain category. 3pt% being his best shot, I imagine. Dunans seems like the Jordan McRae type player to me, that is more athletic and crafty while slashing through the lane and much more of a creator. Same with Purifoy.

The only thing there is that I think you're discounting Brown a little too much. He's going to be our best shooter and will be one of the best on ball defenders that we have.

It's crazy. Apparently they flagged his first test score, not even a second or third with a big jump. I don't think I've ever seen the clearinghouse take this long before.

Jay Tate believes he will have to sit out the year.
He got flagged for an unusually high increase in ACT/SAT. Not DQ but would be cleared after a solid academic year at AU

Lang is supposed to be a good 3pt shooter and his defense development was extremely promising.

Lang will end up being Bruce Bowen-esque. He will be our best perimeter/wing defender, avg 8-10 PPG 4-6 RPG and be our go to defender. His stat sheet will never say more than "solid" just like Bowen's but his contribution will be felt

The game seems to be slowing down for lang. I could see him experience a significant jump in production this year. His talent is greater than his numbers show thus far.

I remember when Lang first started to make some strides defensively, I wouldn't shut up about how he was going to end up being one of the better players for Auburn. I'm still on that train I think he is one of those guys that is a solid role player through his JR year then SR year from experience/development he is one of the focal points of the team

With the NBA's new infatuation with 3nD players, Lang probably has one of the better shots at making it. He is 6'7, athletic and tenacity as a perimeter defender. Supposedly he has developed his 3 too. His skills are valued

He has a solid stroke, no reason he can't be a good shooter.

You might be right but with my current state of mind and after the JJ debacle this year, I've chosen to take a wait and see approach with our newcomers. I would rather temper expectations and be pleasantly surprised if they do well, instead of buying into hype and being disappointed if they don't. JJ has taught me that

Well.. I would hope so.. but no disrespect to him, I feel Lang plays a vital role in our success, but we have better talent on campus now and even more on the way. Again, I feel fortunate to have him because he fits a certain role for us but I just don't feel he will be an elite player. Hope I'm wrong... Lang was recruited by Stanford because of his educational prowess but he would've signed with South Alabama, if it wouldn't have worked out with us.

Easy killer....Let's just let him play and help us win. Be a leader to the younger guys because he has a good head on his shoulders. He couldn't have come from a better family. Antonio has always been very respected by his peers.

Watch Lang play, he moves well for a 6'7 player. He hustles more than anyone and really developing on D

I don't think he will ever be an offensive force but it isn't unreasonable to think come senior year he puts up the following stat line

12ppg 5-7 RPG 2 APG and best perimeter defender

If Lang can improve his handle he will gain some athleticism as he gets stronger. He has to put in the work but he has a chance to play at an elite level by his Jr/Sr year.

Hopefully so. If he could, we should have plenty of talent around him by then to compete for championships.

If it is bball related and MCT says it, it is law for us Aubies

When you watch TJ Lang move on the court by the end of last year, he looks like a 6'2/6'3 guard. He doesn't look awkward like say Granger. It is rare to see guys control their length at 18 when they are 6'7. Players can do drills to improve ball handling/shooting/etc but body control isn't as easy to improve. Just ask Chubb

In recruiting news, his brother Allen (SP?) Lang is a 6'6 SF at McGill 2017 class. If we miss on some 2017 studs and have an extra spot, I'd imagine he finds his way in

AUBURN, Ala. – Tyler Harris had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Kareem Canty scored 16 points, Cinmeon Bowers had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists while Tahj Shamsid-Deen added 13 points, four assists and three steals in Auburn’s first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday in Auburn Arena.

The Tigers scrimmage included a pair of 10-minute periods and a pair of five-minute sessions.

“It was sloppy,” said Auburn second-year head coach Bruce Pearl. “I thought that Tahj’s team played really well. I thought Tyler was a factor inside with his rebounding and made a lot of really good plays. I think you see we have some more weapons out there.”

Walk-on Jonathan Walker scored 12 points on 4-of-5 three-pointers and Danjel Purifoy had 10 points on 3-of-5 treys to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. TJ Lang notched seven points on 2-of-5 three-pointers and had a scrimmage-high five steals.

“I think the scrimmage went well,” said Harris. “We executed well. We played a lot of defense. There are a lot of things we can work on when we watch film from the scrimmage. For the most part, I think everybody did their role and did their part and there is a lot to improve on.”

The Tigers shot 49.5 percent from the floor on 47-of-95 field goals, including 38.0 percent from 3-point range on 19-of-50 three-pointers. Auburn had 27 assists and 24 steals.

“The shooting percentages have been really, really high,” said Pearl. “Is it because we are playing against ourselves and our defense is really terrible or is it because we are a really good offensive team. I don’t know yet?”

T.J. Dunans had eight points of 4-of-7 field goals and had a scrimmage-high five assists along with four steals. Walk-on Cole Stockton added nine points, making half of his six 3-point attempts. New Williams chipped in five points and five rebounds while Horace Spencer added four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Jordon Granger had two points and two rebounds.

Auburn plays its first of two exhibition games against Brevard College on Oct. 30 followed by Indianapolis on Nov. 5. The Tigers open the regular season at home against UAB, who reached the third round of last season’s NCAA Tournament by upsetting No. 3 seed Iowa State, on Nov. 13.

Thanks for the update, Smoke. Harris, Canty, Bowers and Tahj are obviously a little ahead of the others. Most went like we've all expected but Granger with that stat line and no mention of Brown. Dunans led in assists due to slashing and dishing and Lang led in steals, using good instincts and awareness.
