Yeah, surprised by Granger. Brown is sitting out hurt right now. He has a "slight" ankle sprain.

Granger sucks we just need to accept that. I don't know why the walking turnover gets love from AU fans.

Seriously though, am I the only one who watches Granger and sees he barely picks his feet up when running, can't move laterally well and generally isn't quick? Guy reminds me of a horse galloping out there

Because he's been here and stuck with us through the Barbee years, that's why. That's enough of a reason to show him some love instead of constantly bashing him. He's not elite, he's just ok. But I'll be damned if he wasn't important for us last year.

is that you, Jordon? I don't have to show anybody any love if he constantly turns the ball over. Last season, Granger inbounded the ball with turnovers atleast three times when we were trying to milk the clock at the end of the game. And like you said, he is a veteran.

Granger is what he is. I'm hoping that his drop in minutes will motivate him to play harder more consistently this season. If we can get a consistent 12-15 minutes, 6 pts and 4 reb a game from him I'll be happy.

I don't bash the idea that Granger is anything other than a deep rotational player on a team with little depth in the post. If you told me (as MCT points out) that we hope to get 4-6 PPG 3-5 RPG maybe a couple blocked shots I think that is VERY doable and a great role for someone like him.

If people are saying Granger is going to start and play >15 minutes in close games, I am going to rail against it because that is stupid.

ETA: I think Granger is a TPOS, but I don't blame him for not being great at basketball. It isn't easy at this level. I hate on people who ask of players more than they are capable of doing. Kris Frost leads the Marshmallow brigade but I don't hate him for it, just don't want him on the field.

Why do you have such a problem with the guy to call him a TPOS? I haven't seen anything from him other than the almost fight against Kentucky and a couple other small immature moments to lead me to why you have that opinion. Is there something else?

So what is our ceiling for 2015-16?... are we a borderline NIT team?... could we be a bubble team?

I don't think that question can be fully answered until we find out Purifoy's fate for this season.

Granger pushed an Ole Miss player into the scoreboard for a flagrant and a couple years back got a flagrant for punching a UK player. At what point do you realize this is a trend? I watch every game and it happens almost without fail. Granger is always on the verge of a flagrant at any moment he is in proximity to an opposing player

It isn't like Granger plays some super physical game and this is "toughness." Granger pulls dead ball cheap shots and picks fights.

Tate put up some thoughts based on practice

-TSD looks fully recovered and tenacious on D. He is going to play and be solid

-Tyler Harris isn't good at 3s. Picked last during 3pt contest (behind even Bowers). Harris is extremely skilled around the paint

-Bowers still thinks he is a PG. He is down ~32 pounds so at least he can move a little more like one now. Doesn't seem like is considerably more improved around the rim/post up gam

-TJ Lang looks more confident, 3pt stroke is "silky smooth" and he is assertive/confident on defense. Going to be a big contributor for AU

-TJ Dunans is top SG. Great at driving to the hole but he isn't a "banger." He goes around people and avoids contact. Despite beign 6'5, he doesn't seem to be physical enough to be much of a factor as a rebounder

-Brown seems to be a reserve right now at the 2 potentially because his injury

-New Williams is incredibly gifted athletically but the offense isn't clicking quite yet. JGT thinks in a perfect world he redshirts and heals to 100% in the process but he likely is needed as a rotational guy

-Granger looks improved in the post and still solid at long range. He thinks Granger is likely deployed as a 3-5 minute "sortie" type player for fresh legs and energy a few times each half for s park

-Canty is good on offense meh on defense.

Meh, overreaction, IMO. The guy isn't out getting in trouble or causing problems. Yeah, he's had a couple boneheaded moments, but he's hung in there through some bad years.

I hope he doesn't see the floor much because I don't think he's that good, but I hope his added muscle helps him use his height a little more.

I don't think he is bad enough to get kicked off the team, I don't think he is a necessarily a cancer either.

I'm just saying that the guy who gets abused in the post by bigger stronger guys then cheapshots them after the whistle is a TPOS. He is an inner city kid who wants to uphold his rep as tough but can't do it during the play since he is otumatched. I know the type, my HS was in the inner city.

***To be clear, Granger has a role, I think he can do it and I want him on the team. I won't miss him and his TPOS antics in the 2016-17 season

Tate went full retard after watching that scrimmage.

"Canty no good on D" umm not according to BP

"TJ Dunans can't rebound" wrong 6'5 and a high jumper. Very active around the rim.

"Tyler Harris can't shoot 3s". Well he's 6'10. He won't shoot 40% but he can shoot good enough that you better go out there and guard him

"Offense not clicking for New Williams." Yeah he missed the entire spring / summer.

Pearl said in his interview that Canty didn't have a very good practice. But he can play defense from what I've heard.

Tate wasn't hating on any kids, just giving some reasonable updates on a player's progress.

Tate's actual words were that Canty was "adequate" No one raved about Canty being Allen Iverson on defense. He simply reported on what he say that he was "adequate" no that he had no potential

On offense yes but you can't rebound by jumping high at the 3pt line. Tate was referring to DUnans not being overly physical in fighting for position on rebounds. He made the point that when Pearl got after him he saw big improvement. Think Dirk Nowitzki vs Dennis Rodman, Dirk is 7ft and never avg 10+ RPG while Rodman was an animal at it

quote:

He was clarifying that Harris isn't going to be shooting 3s. I probably took this too much out of context. He pointed out that Harris has some sweet moves inside but he just isn't 3pt shooter. Since most people hear he is a "stretch 4" when he transferred in, it is relevant to point out so people don't think he is going to be much of a perimeter threat

quote:

"Offense not clicking for New Williams." Yeah he missed the entire spring / summer.

95% of AUburn fans are too stupid about BBall to realize this point and all they see reported is that Williams is a "Steal" "Could have been a 5*" and pictures of Williams doing sweet dunks.

How long before the Auburn fanbase hype train crowns him as our Derrick Rose then disappointed that he is a recovering 18 YO?

Tate didn't make any ridiculous claims, simply reported things he saw at scrimmage and made the point it was from that scrimmage/practice.

I don't see how any of those comments aren't relevant info to report on if he saw it. He didn't make any long term projections on players abilities when criticized. If Canty had a bad day, makes sense his D would be "adequate"

I like Pearl, he tells it like it is.

I wish the FB coaches could do that so we don't get excited about a playoff appearance when we are destined for 5-7
