I read nothing into that at all except that UT is a big player for him now too? I thought it was odd that when Austin asked him about how big the season has been he started talking about his high school team when I think Austin meant AU's season.

I don't read that UT is a big player from it. For the most part I don't read anything into it either. Was just passing on a free interview. I thought Evans thinking AP was talking about Auburn High was odd too but I think it was a simple misunderstanding.

247 says:
-Looks like we might only take one OL. Auburn will stay in contact with Josh Casher.
-Auburn in Dante Sawyer's top 4. Still not a take because of academic issues.
-It's going to be a battle for Andrew Williams. Might project better as DT.

At this point, why not push and try to take him as an extra in the class? Are they trying to save the spot to count back a few next year?

we are going to have a huge senior class next year... and the way the rules are now really punishes you for signing a guy that doesn't qualify.

we're going to need the spots next year.

So we tell the kid no only to stay in his ear?

The confusion continues.

it is confusing, and I'm not sure any of these recruiting services guys (on both sides) really know what happened. gotta think the odds casher signs with auburn are at or around zero, but that's just speculation too.

who knows how it will play out over the next couple months, but two high school OLs in two years is going to put us in a bind downt the road... mark it down.

Who knows how it will shake out... but you're basically rolling the dice that both Mix and whoever we sign this year will develop into an SEC calibre interior OL... or you're gonna rely on JUCOs to fill needs, which is never a sure thing (especially with interior OLs).

OL recruiting is such a gamble to begin with, and our offense puts a ton on the shoulders of our OLinemen.

For 2014, the OL depth will look like...

3 SRs
3 JRs (not sure on Dampeer's elgibility)
7 SOs
2 FR (assuming one HS player in this class)

There's only so many scholarships to go around. That's 15 players for 5 spots. We lose zero players from the OL after this year. 2015 is an important class, however.

Damn, son, you need a valium?

Rodney Garner, Dameyune Craig, Cheese Harbison, and Melvin Smith have made fricking CAREERS out of recruiting well. Throw Rhett Lashlee into that group as well, to a smaller, more limited (time-wise) extent.

I don't think those men are near as flummoxed about this years and next years recruiting class as you seem to be. Breath into a paper bag, nancy.

Dampeer has 3 years to play 2, I believe... redshirting him in 2014 wouldn't be a bad option (that's pure speculation).

Not quite sure how we are really "rolling the dice". We had a ton of guys that redshirted and will be available in the future

Just look at who will be on the roster in 2015 and 2016. We basically have a full OL depth in 2015. In 2016, we will have an entire starting OL plus pretty solid depth just with what is on the roster. Add in the 2015 class and JUCOs and we are solid

(Just throwing tackles wherever since someone will shift to LT)

2015 OL Depth

LT- Robinson, Leff, Will Adams
LG- Kozan, Diamond
OC- Dampeer
RG- Danzey, Mix, Callahan
RT- Miller, Coleman, Avery Young

2016 OL Depth

LT- Shon Coleman, Leff, Adams
LG- Kozan, Diamond
OC- Dampeer
OG- Danzey, Mix, Callahan
RT- Avery Young,

It has been reported that the plan is to redshirt then have him play 2015/2016

We've got a huge freshman OL class (including redshirts), so I'm not so worried about getting H.S. lineman in this class. Also, I had no idea Avery Young was classified as a redshirt freshman. Thought he was a sophomore. That's awesome.

But I don't understand telling Casher no but still recruiting him. Doesn't make any sense to me.
