So what do we think Lawson was referring to in the infamous "Hoke text" about signing a great class or whatever?

Looks like we will sign a great and top 10 class even without Foster or Adams honestly.

We get Daniel, Ford, the Mac bros - that is a lock for a top 10 class regardless.

Hell, Ford and the Mac bros might be enough for a top 10 finish.

Then there is Corn Elder, Mix, Johnson, and Daniel as mentioned.

Ahh, so FML, right?
Not really. We still sign a good class regardless.

Our class will be good, just disappoints me that we can't win some battles.

To keep things in perspective, we're coming off a 3-9(0-8) season and have a brand new coaching staff with not one single assistant hold-over... if you'd told any Auburn fan who remotely follows recruiting 2 months ago that we'd have a legit shot at a top 10 class, most would've taken that it a heart-beat.

Yeah, I just really never wanted to see Jake Holland take another snap at MLB in my entire life ever ever.

We have won a bunch. But I get where you are coming from considering bama has still been winning a whole lot of the H2H battles.

Still, we were around 20 on Rivals less than a month ago. We are closing strong it seems pretty certain.

Point I am making is that we never win head to head battles with Alabama.

When was the last high profile player that we signed and got on campus that Bama was after? Compare that to the number of those that they got

I always think of it like this: yeah, Saban has turned Alabama into a monster.... But we all get to watch as it crumbles in front of them, too, in the coming years.

Oh, I know exactly what you are saying and I feel the same. It is frustrating.

Agreed. I'll just be sick if we lose out on Foster because it's been my opinion from Day 1 that he's the most important recruit for us in this class. The guy is a physical freak and the kind of athlete we sorely need at Auburn. I know losing the coaching staff was going to be a big hurdle to try to overcome, but this is a kid who was strongly committed to us for nearly half a year, moved to Auburn, went to school in Auburn, got an Auburn tattoo, plays a position of desperate need for us, can come in and possibly start at some point next season, and we STILL can't get him.

I mean, what do we have to do to get a true top-tier LB to sign with us? It's getting ridiculous. If we miss out on Foster, Dameyune Craig better go spend the night at Tre Williams' house Wed. night. We CANNOT miss on him next year. Just can't do it.

As far as the rest of the class, it's starting to look dang strong all things considered. We just needed a gamechanger at LB.

Unfortunately I don't think them crumbling is necessarily a given.. this monster could be continued for a very long time if the right coach is hired to follow Saban's path. It's quite scary.

No one will have the same level of success that Saban has. There is no way they can keep that pace after he quits. Any dropoff will result in bigtime changes.

Well put. I think this one just stings because it is such a huge position of need for us.

it's why I was in favor of bringing in Smart... it would've accomplished two thing -- we hire a very good, young coach... and it weakens saban's machine.

not that i'm disappointed with Malzahn... he's brought in Ellis Johnson, answering the biggest question I had on him.

Not to the extent of a Saban led team. You don't see coaches of that caliber come along very often. Unless they hire a Harbaugh.

True statement. Shon Coleman was the only real heated AU-UA battle that we won. Other than that, I can't think of any.

I guess it's the homer in me, but I'm still not totally convinced Foster will sign anywhere other than Auburn when all's said and done. Holding out some hope that momma can talk some sense into Reuben if he chooses Bama tonight.

It would absolutely be our luck.

Jim Harbaugh gets to another Super Bowl, loses and gets tired of the NFL grind. He looks to get back into college where he knows he can win big as soon as Saban retires. Bama hires Jim, and then we'd be fricked all over again.

This might be a stupid question, but what is the difference between 247 and Rivals rankings?

EDIT: and Scout and ESPN for that matter. Just different formulas for each outlet?

I don't care that Foster is going to Alabama, I don't like the way he handled it at all.
He is milking this situation to get as much attention as possible, it is just annoying at this point.
