Quotes from Marshall's coach:
quote:
“He’s a tremendous quarterback. He’s not an athlete playing quarterback. Probably his strong suit is his leadership ability and the confidence he has in himself to lead an offense. Also, the confidence he has in himself to make the other guys follow him and lead them to victory.”
quote:
“They will be surprised about his knowledge of the game as a quarterback. He picks up things real quick,” he said. “In the spring, we had a blitz day where our defense used all their blitzes against us and Nick sat in there and just picked them apart. And we hadn’t been over them.

I like the Marshall addition and think he could play QB in the Gus system.

Marshall was the offense. He was down 20-30 points in a lot of games because of he defense. That means throwing passes he shouldn't throw.
Different coaches and different offense. I know the INT rate is alarming but Gus' system minimizes those risks.

Another question is how strong was the offensive line.
Was there a running game?

JUCO stats:
Newton 2,833 pass yds 22TDs 655 rush yds. 5 INT
Marshall 3,142 pass yds. 18 TDs 20 INTs 1095 rush
I guess if we could get him to cut down the picks I would be good with him starting. This comparison actually swayed me. I thought it was going to make my point. That's impressive.
This guy has STAR potential all over him, and I'm not talking about the new hybrid position on D either....

He's pretty fast with a 4.4 and is 6'2 205. Why not put him at safety?
Well that's where he needs to play.
Safety?!?! For WHAT?!?!?!?! Look at the 2 stiffs we have at QB right now...Frazier has talent and no heart, Wallace has heart and no talent. Neither is a good runner.
Nick Marshall has both...he has turnovers, but that's very coachable. You have to be born with talent AND heart, and those other 2 WERE NOT.

Avg. per game in wins
14-23 232yds 1TD 1INT 12att 103yds 2TD
In losses,
87-157 (55.4%) 1287yds 9TD 13INT 72ATT 274yds 6TDs

22-39 322yds 2TD 3INT 18att 69yds 2TD
He also had 8 fumbles on the year. Thats another concern.

A couple of things that may be relevant
The AJC said "passing for 3,142 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games". Hell, he was the offense. Does your information have the rushing yards of their RB's?
Over 3000 yards passing in 11 games is astonishing to me, plus almost 1000 yards rushing. Exhaustion could possibly explain some of the bad numbers(fumbles and interceptions). Watching the video I'm not sure he had the best offensive line in the country. This man could possibly outshine Cam! How's that for unbridled optimism.
WAR EAGLE NICK MARSHALL!!!!

So it looks like we are going to lose all our big defensive recruits and replace them with offensive ones? That sux losing Dee...
How far our defensive class, and the outlook on it, has come in the past few months...

Thirdlawson wtf do you mean Jwall doesnt have talent? Kid is extremely athleric running and with proper mechanics should be above average throwing the ball. He faced UGA abd Bama when the team quit and Chizik was running his offense

Look on the bright side. We are still in it for Foster and Lawson, who I think are both more important than Liner (with more potential). And maybe this will open the door a little more with Adams, who I think is better. Call me crazy, but I think we have a good shot here.
Yes, I also know we could lose all three, which would be a major fail for this staff starting off.

We are never going to get Foster now that Liner is gone. Give up on that. We will be very very lucky if Lawson does not bolt
I started a thread a few weeks ago and some of you laughed. I think it was a all or nothing thing.
We were to get
Foster
Adams
Liner
Lawson
Trey Johnson
Now we will probably get none. That does suck..
But hey, look at the other bright side. We did pick up a start Juco Athlete who robbed his possible teammates on a recruiting trip.
Sorry. Just not so excited about the Marshall pick up.

We needed a warm body at QB for depth's sake. Plus if he busts at QB, he has talent in the secondary. It's a win/win IMO.
The Dee thing sucks, but at least he went ahead and did it. And maybe Foster will change his mind in regards to it. Our staff has several weeks to work on it, plus he lives 10 minutes from campus.

I am more worried about losing Foster to JUCO than another team at the moment.
It just sucks that we lost Dee at a position of need. Why couldn't he be a WR or something where we have other recruits and some guys with the potential to bust out already on the roster?
