Yep.. he's playing opposite of Jomarcus Savage.

Word on this particular 2 star from ESPN recruiting (yeah, I know) is that he's been kinda overlooked. He's got an offer list like a mid-range 3 star - Penn State, Auburn, S. Car. Not likely to be a gem, but he's not a total scrub.

Thus kinda shite bothers me. Watch the damn kids video before you just write him off as a 2* nobody. He is a fricking hell of a player!!! Legit 6'1, 230 LB that runs a legit 4.6 forty and is tough as nails.
I feel the same way when we talk about top ranked JUCO players we have been looking at lately and such. Don't know anything about the guy but the fact that we are offering more LBs and that he is committed to Penn State makes me feel like we are about to get embarrassed on him and other recruits

How would we get embarrassed by him? He's already committed to Penn State. If he sticks with them it wouldn't be embarrassing.

Losing on an instate school to Penn State is not good in any year to me. Just like it would be bad to lose a PA kid for them to AU.
When their team won't play for a bowl game except for his senior year and everything surrounding that program, it only adds to it. Don't forget their conferece is at historical lows

I'm with you. This makes me wonder if we are missing on some kids.

I think you're jumping to too many conclusions. This kid will likely choose Auburn if we really want him. His recruiter at Penn State was Roof who just left. I'm not sure where you're getting that he's going to chose Penn State over us, but it doesn't seem very accurate. Bryan Matthews said that our chances with him are very good.

I find myself asking this question:
Can the recruit grow to have the size and ability knock back a Bama/LSU RB consistently?

If he wasn't committed to them right now, I would agree. But since we've ignored him up to this point and he committed to them before we started recruiting him, I wouldn't consider it embarrassing.

Exactly. It's not a question of whether some of these late offer recruits are talented or scrubs. There's no doubt that they have talent. The question is if they are talented enough (or have a high enough ceiling) to play in the SEC.

Yep.. and I hate looking at stars to begin with b/c there will always be some sort of bias that attributes to rankings and such. I'd much rather get a height, weight, ACT score/GPA, and highlight film/ stats.
Unfortunately ACT scores and GPAs are hard to come by when talking recruiting.

I check for a Vandy offer

Way too many kids fly under the radar during recruiting whether it is lack of camp/big HS program exposure, guys that are athletic freaks limited by either HS coaching or new to the game or guys that simply haven't matured/grown (I know a bunch of guys who have grown FR year)
Stars really don't mean shite about an individual player. Averaging out stars across a recruiting class does do a decent job for evaluating talent levels for a team assuming someone doesn't Chizik them over their time at the school
Nino I am laughing pretty hard at that

But in all seriousness, not even a Vandy offer is a sign of intelligence anymore. The restrictions to get in as an athlete at VU are not nearly as stiff as years past

Stars are used to gauge a players "readiness" to produce his freshman year. We need to keep that in mind when judging a recruit.

Jomarcus Savage went on to be a pretty good player at the FCS level -- all conference type, IIRC. Would've probably been a solid SEC player here had he stuck around.

I would agree except too many times recruiting serices will bump up guys be ause their talent ceiling as well according to them

Get embarrassed in what way? Kids get overlooked all the time and go on to have exceptional college careers elsewhere. A school is not going to catch every breakout player. Sure it is disappointing just like when we pick up an athlete with great promise and they flop. It's just part of the recruiting game. My hope is we got a staff that gets it right more than not.
