Good God. Seriously?

One guy and all of a sudden we've just stopped competing with these schools for recruits?

I have no problem with the recruit at all. We need all the help we can get at all positions. I really don't see why Chizik stopped recruiting JUCO guys in the first place but oh well

My comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I'm sure we'll compete with the best offensively even though I do have some concerns with how our defensive recruiting will shake out. Will just have to take a wait and see approach

Fair enough, but you can't ever tell with all the bitching and moaning that goes on here.

Anyway, from Bryan Matthews...

Quick Update Ala all-star morning practice

**Very impressed with the front seven on Alabama's defense. Dee Liner, Darius Paige, Rod Crayton, Reuben Foster, etc., will be very tough to run on. They won most of the battles during inside and team drills this morning. Foster was especially impressive.

***Most of the Auburn commits hung out together including Foster. Jeremy Johnson, Jason Smith, Dee Liner, Kamryn Melton and Earnest Robinson were joking with each other and having fun between plays and on the sideline.

***CB Jonathan Cook from Spanish Fort was not there for the morning session. He had to take the exit exam this morning but is expected to be here for the afternoon session.

***Working on punt returns today were Smith, Robinson, Cameron Echols-Luper and Johnathan Ford.

***247Sport national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton was here this morning. He mentioned Jason Smith, Darius Paige, ArDarius Stewart, Cameron Echols-Luper and Reuben Foster has standouts today. Reuben said he was down to 234 pounds and was clearly moving better today. He was 252 at The Opening this summer.

Hamilton said Luper and Smith were best route runners and Robinson has best, strongest hands.

***Hamilton said Jeremy Johnson looked good physically but is still working to be comfortable in the system.

***I interviewed Earnest Robinson afterwards. I'll have that story and video soon.

Ellis Johnson told Trey Johnson that they would do whatever it took to get Trey to Auburn if they were still in the race. Trey said he'll have a decision for Auburn this week.

That's doesnt sound good. He has to think about if we're still in the running for him.

This is irrelevant.

Chizik recruited the right way. You don't build a program with JUCO players (Houston Nutt, take notes). You use JUCO players to help with depth and talent in order to keep your head above water in your first year or two of a new regime, especially if you're as thin as Tubbs left us in 2009.

After that, the base of your roster has to be high school players, and Chizik did that. He just wouldn't know player development if it farted an inch away from his nose.

Now there are some positions you will miss on over the course of recruiting, and you bring in JUCO guys to help with an immediate deficiency. But I'd say the only real positions Chizik missed on during his time here were QB and LB.

He had talent everywhere else. A boatload of it. He brought in Carter, Whitaker, Blackson, Wright, Sigler and others at DL, and he had Liner coming in. Lemonier, Sanders, Owens, Ford and others at DE, and he had Lawson coming in. He had the talent there, and these guys should be one of the better DLs in the league by now, but they got little to no coaching.

Now we need immediate impact players from the JUCO ranks to help mask these guys' regression.

People wanna talk about Liner, but Trey Johnson was just looking for a reason to leave ever since Roof left. He was flirting with a lot of other schools even before this season started, and then immediately decommits when Chiz is fired with us immediately falling to 3rd or 4th in his pecking order.

I'm not sure Johnson would've signed with us even if Chiz had stayed.

Cam and Fairley say hello. When you get the opportunity for JUCO you take them especially when they back count. They are just extra players that do not prevent you from your other recruiting needs.

Chizik didn't necessarily recruit Fairley, although I guess he did have to talk him out of going elsewhere when Tubbs was fired.

Chizik brought in Cam in his second year here, and we didn't have a QB. That falls in the "you take JUCO guys to cover immediately deficiencies early in your regime" category. But yes, I agree. JUCO or not, you take a talent like Cam Newton every day of the week.

I agree with everything you said. I dont think his coach liked Auburn and stayed in his ear about looking at other schools. I'm honestly not sad to see him go. We have a enough players currently on the rooster that dont really want to play for Auburn

Is it fair to consider Saturday, December 15 Auburn's D day. After last year with he who shall not be named Im wondering what early Christmas gifts will we be handing out?

After the Foster stunt earlier this year with the letter, Im sure the midget mafia is looking for some revenge

What's the deal with Rod Crayton? He is a 4* DT from in-state and doesn't have an AU or Bama offer? WTF.

He has what I assume is a birth defect. One foot is half the size of the other. He has been one hell of a DT in high school, but I think the coaches are worried about the transition to college and the SEC as far as strength and speed difference in competition. It seems as if they are worried it may not hold up like in high school and become more of a inhibitor.

Could be close to offering DB Jonathan Cook, in-state guy committed to Nebraska.

Malzahn visited recently.

"It went great. He came and visited me and went to our state title game," Cook said. "They have been talking to my head coach, I think I'm getting that offer. It would mean a lot to get an in-state school to offer, it would feel good. I wouldn't have to drive as far as Nebraska."
