As the investigation into the Braves unfolded, executives around baseball agreed that other teams disregard the rules in similar fashion to Atlanta. The Braves were simply the ones caught. And the severity of the penalties go beyond merely losing players and facing restrictions going forward: Between the signing bonuses and penalties for exceeding their bonus pool, the Braves will have paid well over $20 million to players who no longer are part of their organization.

Of course. Cause, Atlanta.

I don't think anyone wants to go through an appeals process. I think we'll just want to move on and get past this.

I'm sure that MLB teams will walk a straight line now that the Braves have been made an example of...

lol jk, could you imagine if it really worked like that though?

Dayton from Nebraska
@BravesAmerica

In sum:
-We threw away 20+ million dollars
-Getting little to no int'l talent for 5+ years
-Many rumored to be gone (Pache, Waters, Contreras) aren't
-Still have a top 3 farm system in MLB
-Got a better GM out of the deal
-We're a much better org than we were 4 years ago

That's some serious pumping of sunshine. Not being able to sign international players for 5 years AND losing Maitan are devastating blows.

I think the point of the tweet is that losing a bunch of 16-18 year olds isn't the end of the world. Yes, it sucks, but we are in great shape as an organization right now.

In other new, Coppy got a lifetime ban from Manfred.

A lifetime ban is unbelievable. Holy shite.

The only other people to ever get that are Shoeless Joe, Pete Rose and Mejia for roids.

Holy fvck!

Not being able to sign internationally is a giant blow to the future of the farm system and will leave us stretched super thin even if we have great drafts.

Losing Maitan sucks, but he's a 16 year old kid from a country in civil war. He could end up being Miguel Cabrera but he could also end up being a AAAA player.

Go to Japan like Mr. Baseball? I have no idea. Not good, obviously. Pretty sure baseball is gonna be out of the cards.

How did all this blow up anyway? What is stopping MLB to go through this with every other team?

A letter from a disgruntled employee to get even with Coppy. Apparently he rules with an iron fist and pisses people off. Now they are finding everything else that was done.

frick Rob Manfred. There's not a snowball's chance in hell NYY, Boston, or the Dodgers would have gotten railroaded like this.
