False

Deion Sanders is quite possibly the greatest corner to ever play the game and was drafted by the Falcons.

Brett Farve - one of the great QBs of all time and drafted by the Falcons but went on to be a Green Bay legend.

Tommy Nobis - just an insane linebacker - Drafted by the Falcons

Roddy White was a hell of a pick in 2005 - Better than Matt Ryan IMO although pretty close

Claude Humphery in 1968

So no - He's not the best in history although for a beleaguered franchise that hasn't won much - he turned out to be pretty dang good.

Greatest in terms of career success? No (Sanders and Favre would be on top, though Ryan is Top 5).

Greatest in terms of effect on the Falcons franchise? Absolutely.

Agree, to some degree. If Matt Ryan plays at his current last 5 year average, and above all, wins a Super Bowl, he'll likely surpass Brett Favre in a few major statistical categories including, Yards, TDs (maybe a stretch), and career wins.

Deion was the greatest ever at his position. Julio with a few more productive years will vault into that top-5 conversation with Rice, Fitzgerald, Owens, and Moss.

People have no idea how much we are going to miss Matt Ryan when we are gone. Since he was drafted, knowing we had Matt Ryan meant it wasn't inconceivable we could go to and win a Super Bowl. No one player in our history ever gave us that hope, year in and out.

True. This shouldn't even be debatable. The Falcons were in dire straits following the Vick dog fighting stuff and the Petrino fiasco. Ryan being so good allowed this franchise to recover from that disaster quickly. If we had missed on that pick, there is no telling how long we would have been in the toilet.

Also, he's easily the best QB in franchise history.

He is not the best player drafted by the Falcons in terms of League impact, but he probably is in terms of Falcons impact

Yet there are STILL morons in this fanbase that thought Vick was "done dirty" by the Falcons and that the team should've kept his spot open for him while he was in jail.

None of these had the same impact on the league or team as Ryan...not even close.A franchise QB is ALWAYS gonna have a bigger impact than any other position especially in today's game.

exactly. it's Ryan and it's not particularly close.

"the greatest draft pick in falcons history" to me reads "the best pick that the falcons ever made", not "the greatest player to ever be drafted by the falcons". The timing (following the Vick and 07 season debacle), the mostly sustained success (stringing together back to back winning seasons), the 2 NFCCGs, the 1 SB, the MVP, etc....easily the greatest draft pick made by the Falcons.

No way, Favre is above Ryan even if the next five years play out as you say. You have to adjust for era.

Favre
3 x MVP
1 x SB (and MVP)
11 x Pro Bowl

He retired as the all-time passing leader in yards and touchdowns. Ryan won't do that in either category, which is totally fine.

LOL WHAT

The lengths our own fan base will go to to discredit the best player in the franchises history is so mind-boggling.

Brett Favre is the most overrated QB since Joe Namath. He threw way, way too many horrible interceptions for me to consider him one of the all time greats.

Overrated or not, he still has a more impressive career than Matt. That’s not an insult to either player.

The next 4 years of Matt Ryan's career are going to be such a narrative shaper for him.

He wins a Super Bowl and continues churning out 4K seasons like clockwork, he's an all-time great.

He doesn't win one, he likely goes on the shelf with that Archie Manning, Philip Rivers, Warren Moon, crowd. For sure HOFer, but, falls short of that first-ballot crowd.

Yes!

Matt Ryan barely beats out Deion Sanders and Quintoris Lopez Jones as the best Falcon Draft pick ever

The value of not having to worry about your most important position (QB), for a 13 to 15 year stretch cannot be measured for an NFL Franchise

Part of the reason that Brady & the Pats have had the success they had is the other 3 NFL Teams in their Division all went 20 years without finding decent QBs and this led to the Patriots "almost" being guaranteed 1 or 2 Home playoff games each season

When you combine this with the timing of the Ryan pick (fresh off the Petrino and Vick disasters), Ryan is easily the best pick we've ever had.

tbf Falcons as a brand got a massive boost from those top Vick years.

I think it lifted the city and boosted the Hawks, which lead to the Atlanta United boost.

think Vick might be the catalyst for all of it and maybe the best in that way?
