I think we’re building for another year yet tanking, Quinn is gone, but we get either Lawrence or Fields in the top 3 in 2021.

Jesus Christ, the Lou groza award winner is 60 miles down the road and they draft a kicker from Syracuse. Amazing.

I hate drafting specialists in general. Thought they could have taken a flier on a receiver like Binjimin Victor.

As for Hot Rod, I loved the guy at Georgia, but there was a pattern emerging with him where if he missed one kick, he was going to miss another one in the same game.

This is all I can think as far as strategy goes. They’ve done nothing to prepare for Ryan’s retirement otherwise.

I agree on taking Victor over a kicker but it’s a 7th rd pick and Blankenship is far from a bad kicker, not to mention a local folk hero

The kid from Syracuse is also apparently a punter too. It makes a little more sense now because we need a punter.

Another shite draft by the Falcons. Could've and should've traded down with Philly in round 1 and received more picks and still would've gotten a good corner whether Terrell was there or not. Davidson is a tweener. Slow for DE and needs weight for DT. They need a stud safety. Could've taken Chinn in round 2 and gotten a DT later on. Should've never traded a 2nd for Hayden Hurst. Way overpaid for him.

If they wanted a safety from Cal that bad they picked the wrong one. Ashtyn Davis is who they should've targeted.

Hennessy over Cushenberry? Give me the LSU guy who was a part of a line that allowed Joe Burrow to have all day to throw about 98% of the time vs a guy who played at Temple.

For two straight years the Falcons could've and should've allowed themselves to lose their last 4-5 meaningless games once they were eliminated from the playoffs and each year they've blown having a top 5 pick in every round to win meaningless games in front hardly any fans. Just stupid as hell. They need to all be fired and if Arthur Blank is to stupid to see that sometimes losing is a good thing for the future then he needs to sell the team.

The kid from Syracuse is a punter and kickoff specialist, not a kicker.

2019
Punting-69 for 43.86.....cant find hang time stats for collegem but apparently thats his specialty

Kickoff-42 touchbacks in 64 kicks

Field Goals-1 of 1 for 52 yards.

I think its a great pick. We need a punter since Bosher is gone and that guy from last year was awful. We also need a kickoff specialist and this guy is great at it. We filled two needs with one dude in the 7th round.

edit:For his career at Syracuse, Hofrichter is 3-4 on field goals, 1-2 50+ so he was probably also picked for very long field goals since Koo's leg isnt the strongest.

You guys should know by now that the Falcons don't draft UGA players. It's one of many reasons why I don't give a shite about the Falcons.

They don't actively avoid drafting Georgia players you dipshit. If a Georgia player filled a need and was available when they needed him, they'd take him.

All the analysis I’ve seen shows the Falcons as the second worst draft behind Green Bay.

The last time I’ve seen people this up in arms about “how bad a draft we had” was 2016. Fans and “experts” alike gave the Falcons anywhere from a “C” to a “D” grade.

That draft yielded: Keanu Neal, Deion Jones, Austin Hooper, and DeVondre Campbell.

Also, since this is primarily a college sports forum, it bears repeating: no, the Falcons don’t hate drafting Georgia players. To draft someone from Georgia, they need to fit in the very tight center of the ven-diagram that they (a) fit a need, and (b) are available, and (c) are aligned on the value chart of the draft board.

As for “Hot Rod,” it seemed as though every other organization thought he wasn’t worth drafting either, 255 times to be exact. Much like Fromm, he is likely overvalued by the home fanbase.

I think the Falcons had a good draft. AJ was a *slight* reach but had a first round grade on everyone’s board. There was a massive drop off in available corners after Okudah, Henderson, and Terrell. I do think they felt it wasn’t worth the squeeze to trade back 4 slots, only to have someone jump in front and take him. What, do you want risk Isiah Oliver being out #2 this year?

Moreover, we stole Marlon Davidson. He is one of the best DL’s in the draft.

As for Hennessy over Cushenbury III, I think the jury is out. Everything I read about him, and everything new Panthers HC Matt Rhule said about him at Temple was gushing. Also, with Mack still at Center, he’s versatile enough to play guard. Just because he doesn’t play at a power-5 school, doesn’t mean he isn’t good

I think my 2nd favorite pick of the draft is Mylar Walker. He was the MVP of his conference championship game as a Linebacker. Do you know how disruptive you have to be to do that? He’s got great speed and lays wood. He’s someone you can slide in on 3rd and short and have blow up holes.

As for the rest of the draft, if they yield one starter, it’s a win. The Punter pick in round 7 is usually a good idea if you think he’s the guy. We don’t have a punter anymore, and this guy has a top-grade for a punter. He’ll make the team and play on a rookie salary.

Also, after watching how garbage the TE class was, major, major kudos to TD for swooping in and getting Hayden Hurst. He’s better than anyone in this class by a mile, and has solid experience already.

The Falcons turned their defensive line into Takk. Fowler, Davidson, and Jarrett. They put Terrell on opposite side of Sheffield. They got line depth. They upgraded from Freeman to Gurley on a team friendly contract. They’re pass-catching core is Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Hayden Hurst, and Laqoun Treadwell. The QB is going to finish next season 8th all-time in yards and in the top-10 in touchdowns.

I get we’ve been disappointed recently, but this has been a shockingly good offseason.

This is the NFL. Saints went 7-9 3 times before turning it around.

There is a massive difference between college and pro football, that a lot of college-first fans don’t get: there are zero easy wins on a pro football schedule. In college, on money and recruiting alone, big programs should win at least 75% of their games a year. Clemson should win 90% on that alone.

If you want blowouts, uneven scheduling, and playing 1-3 meaningful games a year, and coasting the rest of the way, college is the way to go. It won’t be like that in the NFL.

I think with the cap restraints we had, we did a bang-up job this draft and off-season. I see 10-6 in a tough division and a playoff birth is absolutely the minimum for this team in 2020. Should be a fun year of Falcons football.

I don't share nearly your same level of optimism about the upcoming season:

Laquan Treadwell won't make the opening day roster.

I HATE the Terrell pick. I've already beaten that dead horse so I won't get into it again.

Linebacker is still going to be a question mark.

I need to see a major step forward from McGary.

RB is a big question mark. It is highly likely that Gurley doesn't have anything left and at some point, we'll be stuck with Brian Hill and Qadree Ollison as a rotation because Ito won't last 16 whole games.

Quinn still struggles to make in game decisions and adjustments.

Dimitroff surprised me this offseason in a good way.

Did Ito Smith die?

Also, agree on McGary. I think our success largely hinges on his growth and Koetter’s ability to not use a Madden playbook.

Ito is probably another concussion or two from retirement.

The punter is my favorite pick of the draft, because he's probably the only one that I have confidence in being on the team in 4 years.

Yeesh, no one knows. Half the time these writers and talking heads anoint a team for trying to buy a quick super bowl, a la TB this year. Remember the 2011 Eagles that tried to buy that quick team of older super stars? Yea, they won like 5 games and then disbanded.

I am not saying that our draft picks will work out. Probably some will and some won't. It's all a crapshoot for every team. Ironically, Saints fans and media down here didn't like their 1st round pick of a Center but it probably fits a big team need for them now and definitely in the future.

Overall I think our draft was a C+ to B range. We didn't target any DE's but I think our first 3 picks will contribute early and often, maybe one or all will have moments they shine.

I love, love, love the Davidson and Hennessy picks. I don't know enough about the 4th round guys to really say anything about them.

My view of this draft is skewed by what I think of Terrell. I really hope I'm wrong and he becomes the next Darrelle Revis.
